I love that Badger did her LOL doll picture with pink braids. I think she found the exact shade of pink to match what she was getting in her own hair. The girls are so patient and mellow during the process. It's great you found someone who could come to your house to braid everyone's hair. I hadn't thought about itinerant braider as a job before, but can definitely see how a person could do that full-time. And she's very sweet and calm with the kids. The girls look fabulous!

I didn't know that. My oldest is mixed but her hair is more like her dad's texture and fine,, maybe a 2C or 3A. I had her braided once it only lasted about 5 days and she was very disappointed that it took so long for "so little pizazz" 😂 This was 15 years ago though, bonnets weren't something I knew about. I probably could've saved her hair. Maybe I'll tell her she should try again.

I just watched a short with mom braiding her daughter naturally straight hair. Her hair looks similar to mine: fine but lots of it. I've had mine braided, sometimes without and with extentions. Some tips to make it easier and last longer are: having slightly dirty hair (day 2 or 3 after washing), use a dry shampoo, and a light pomade/waxy product towards the ends.

Your little ladies look so cute for Valentines day! Your daughters are lucky to have you for their wonderful mom. My hair is thin and whispy with enough wave that by the end of the school day, I looked pretty ragged. I don't think they knew much about curly/wavy hair back in 1972!

I work in an agency that serves predominantly black and brown youth that struggle with mental/behavioral anomalies and all of us staff of color had a group session about hair and we did the youths hair, with permission of course, the white staff and clinicians said the braids and beads makes the kids look like gang bangers. Hair is such a bonding experience for us and it was successful and this was what we were met with.

What a great event to have for youth at risk. Regardless of race learning to care for hair and having someone spend the time to learn what you like and do a style for you has to be very affirming. I'm sorry other members of staff were rude and didn't recognize the value of your efforts. So many kids suffer from a lack of genuine care from the adults in their lives. And having someone care enough to do your hair when you're young is HUGE. You did a good thing. Do it again no matter what the ignorant among you say.

I cannot believe someone who works with children in that capacity thinks of them that way. This is why I speak and teach about the thing that I do. They should have diversity and sensitivity training and potentially not work with them until they can see what they said and why its wrong.

Late to the show. I grew up in a multicultural house and while I didn't have fine hair like Tigers, I remember having our braid day as well! It brings such happy memories for me. While Tiger may not be able to have the same kind of braids due to damage potential, she shouldn't have any problems with loser braid styles such as dutch, fishtail or a french braid. (Just some thoughts, but absolutely do what you feel is best) Heck, she might even be interested in learning to braid, Lord knows that skill will be helpful later 😄

I teach my kids to find the beauty within themselves and find the beauty and appreciate beauty in others! Putting the type of braids you see here in tigers hair would cause damage and hair loss since her hair is so silky. You’d have to braid and grip extra tight to get the similar look, I don’t want her to damage her hair.

I’m white and I braid hair (french, dutch, celtic rope braid, etc) but I never do more than two braids (with the exception of accent braids) because that was how I was taught. Moreover, white folks don’t have tge texture needed to keep the braids neat. And folks will think you’re appropriating culture.
