I was in that plane. Actually the bird strikes occurred just before lift off, during the rotation (I have it on video). I was right abeam Engine #2. Thanks for the video, impressive job by ATC, the crew, and surrounding pilots for their cooperation !

@vasaviation amazing graphics for the post incident resolution. Loved seeing the holding patterns getting released. Also the way points on the map was a nice touch to get familiar with the geography.

There is a video, I think on this channel, where many planes had to divert to another airport, due to weather. So most were on emergency\divert fuel, and an incoming pops up NORDO, the tower had something like 20 planes stacked on 5 way points at different FLs in less than 10 minutes. It was amazing to watch. I think it was a South American airport? Can someone drop a link or search terms for me? TIA

So THAT's why my flights to ORD and back had no wifi. They switched the plane for an old A330 while this one was getting fixed.
@celticlofts
@celticlofts Жыл бұрын
That same aircraft had no Wi-Fi a year ago. It's a piece of junk that has no business in the air. When I flew on it a year ago the seat I was in was broken. They moved me to another seat and that was broken too. The inflight entertainment system didn’t work for anyone, and nor did the Wi-Fi work either. Now these are things that we can clearly see that are broken - what else is broken that we can't see? The Irish authorities need to ground that aircraft until everything is properly repaired and thoroughly inspected. I know British Airways would not put a plane in the air in that poor condition. In my opinion Aer Lingus are gambling with your life, and all for the sake of filthy lucre. Oh and a neighbor of mine flew on the same aircraft about a month after me and it was still in that same poor condition.

I have to ask: With all the automation we have today, isn't there a way to feed the tower the souls on board, HAZMAT, and fuel status so the pilots can focus on their emergency? I understand why the ground needs to know this information, but it always seems that these questions, which the controllers rarely understand the replies the first time, distract the pilots from the emergency.

Hi action. Excellent point. I am sure there are various answers, but I figure a direct contact with ATC and flight crew is probably irreplaceable no matter the technology. But I agree with your point. Tonnes of tech and automation and the flight crew should be enabled to fly the aircraft and not have to "talk" so much.
@pzag777
@pzag777 Жыл бұрын
We don't have that automation. It is possible, very possible but in general, many systems in aviation are very outdated, different and not talking to each other. When I used to work for OPS, load sheet department of very big airline, we had those information automated. But only to a certain degree. Some cargo agent put all his stuff into the system, just clicked and it moved into my system. And I had it all, all the dangerous goods, special loads, everything. I just moved/loaded that into the aircraft and from this info, the notoc was automaticaly created. However, not every airport, every cargo had this kind of technology. Sometimes, we just received excel file and had to put it in manualy. Etc. What I want to say, the posibility is there, we have the information, but there is no mutual connection between all the systems, companies and people. Same with people on board. Checking and gate "clicks" the people in system and it moves into my and makes a load sheet, but it ends there, fuel would be different because only aircraft knows how much it has at the very moment.

HAZMAT can probably be known ahead of departure, but the final POB won't be known until the doors close and fuel will be based on the aircraft situation at a given time.

We can get live video from a SpaceX launch...surely we can figure out how to get a few pieces of data from an aircraft to unload the pilots during an emergency.

The FAA uses systems built from the 60s and 70s...there is no automation. We cant even transfer, get reasonable raises, half the facility's are a dump, how are we going to get better systems? :(

Eventually there will be real-time bird radar visible to the pilots on a HUD. By "eventually" I mean the technology pretty much exists today, but you have a few decades of rule making and budgeting before it becomes a reality.

Birds had a good few years with less flights. They still need to readjust back to the increased nr of flights again.

@@garywatson Even if pilots see the birds, they’re trained to keep flying as planned. You’re more likely to get into much bigger trouble attempting some high energy maneouvre around the birds while climbing out or on approach, plus birds are unpredictable: if you turn, the birds could just turn the same way.

0:07 Are we sure that tail number was not EI - EIO? I took lessons from the flight school / FBO which was on the rural west side of the airport 40 years ago reached via an old country road. I hitched a ride back once from an elderly farmer in an old pick - up truck who turned out owned land covering most of 3 counties and so was my first encounter with a millionaire!. Pretty sure his name was MacDonald. (most of this is true) 😄

Can't understand why they didn't land at least 2 of the arrivals prior to the emergency aircraft !?

True. But a go around of an emergency aircraft due to another previous arrival (potentially) still on the runway isn't good. He made the safe call to clear the way for the emergency.

@@brunotcs What do you mean Europe? The airport was single runway ops with a max weight heavy aircraft having an engine failure. You don't allow the smallest chance of blocking the runway and that includes not allowing aircraft to land before the emergency aircraft. Additionally, the emergency aircraft had had a bird strike so a runway inspection was required anyway.
