Except for not confirming whether DAL2668 heard the OPS report that there were flames coming out of engine. In fact DAL2668 had NOT heard the report (or wasn't sure what he heard) because after OPS says it a second time to TWR, TWR calls DAL2668 to tell him the truck is coming up to them. Ignoring this report about the truck, DAL2668 replies "you said-- you said there's fire coming out the engine?" TWR confirms then DAL says "Evacuate on runway". TWR should know that "airplane on fire" is by far the most urgent thing DAL needed to know. They could have issued evacuate order 20 seconds earlier.

Good job? Pilot rushed ATC to take off and the nerve for the other moron pilot from Delta stating he only has 5 more minutes to take off and then the first plane says he also doesn't have much more time. INSANE. I would never want to fly with stupid pilots rushing ATC during a snow storm and while they are actively clearing and cleaning runways. THEN ATC says last check the runways were good. the last check was 20 minutes prior which is NOT normal. You need 5 minutes clearence during an active snow and cie storm. It's a miracle nothing worse.

@@gifterphotosThere is always a minimum fuel requirement for departure. If you pass below that threshold you are required to return to the gate. This cause bottlenecks and frustration among passengers no doubt. Yes they’re clearing the runway. But the pilots are trying to relay that they need to either be in the air or go back. I imagine you wouldn’t want to be stuck on the ground for sometime just to find out you have to go back to the gate. Wouldn’t be very courteous eh?

@ElChocoLoco these people as you call it have multiple years of experience before they were even considered a battalion slot and" these people" as you like to put it end up being the very people who will walk into a blazing fire on an aircraft just to pull your ass out. Give them the respect that they have actually earned over years of firefighting. And firefighting an aircraft fire is not something for amateurs.. a couple of things you need to understand and I mean this seriously. Number one once you get that radio call. You start getting your people moving and while that happening you are listening to all of the information from the tower controller on the FAA crash phone and yes this was not an actual crash but they are trained to treat it like one. That slow response that you keep bringing up actually wasn't slow because he has to listen to the information given to him over the radio formulate the plan of attack and then respond back to everybody and make sure that they are going to the right locations around the aircraft as well as make sure that passengers and vehicles aren't getting in each other's way. And just so you know just because a person is speaking with southern accent over radio does not make them stupid or incompetent..... remember that. Because when you don't you get it right don't get a respawn or a oops. I'd rather deal with somebody that is taking the time to get it right as fast as they can based on the information they have

You're comparing a fire resulting from a crashed airplane, to one that had a minuscule engine fire the plane was able to extinguish itself? That's an odd take. In almost every emergency evacuation of an aircraft their are at least minor injuries. Those slides may look "fun" but they're very steep. It isn't something that should be done willy nilly. An engine fire is an emergency, but stopped, on the ground, with no fuel leak, it isn't a seconds matter emergency. British Airways Flight 2276 is a far better comparison, 20 were injured with one serious, all from the evacuation. In this case, I have doubts on if it was necessary. The pilots got poor information and confusion out of Ops/ARFF. They can't see the engines themselves. With the very little information they had, not surprised they thought it could be a fully involved fire. After evacuating and seeing it themselves, they may be regretting it. Especially if anyone got seriously injured.

@SDK-im8sl
@SDK-im8sl 11 күн бұрын
This is a difficult challenge at many airports. Unlike pilots or airport ops, the fire crews can't be out there for hours daily getting super proficient with the complexities of ATC radio and big airport layout. The core idea, anyway, is that when they're responding to an actual incident called out by the Tower, all other traffic will be stopped. Many times the Tower will transmit, "All aircraft hold position! ARFF vehicles, proceed at will, cross all runways, the airport is yours."

What a great job by the controller. She was calm, communicated clearly throughout, even before the emergency when she was asking about the fuel status of the following Delta. She made sure everyone was completely aware of what was happening and dealt with it perfectly. On the flipside, you have some pretty stupid passengers making sure they've found time to take their baggage with them when they evacuated. Those 10 seconds it took to fetch their bag could have cost someone ther life, absolute idiots.

Respect to the pilot who made decisive action on the information he had available and aborted the take off quickly. I'm a retired security officer and part of my career I spent working at Hartsfield in my last assignment before going to a new job. I worked at Northwest Airlines technical operations center back in the 90s. And we used to monitor Atlanta fire rescue and the Crash phone for the FAA Tower on handheld and desk scanners at our location. I can tell you from having work with those guys before mainly during medical assist calls where they needed to get from our side of the facility over across the runways in taxiways to the other side., they got this right they got this done by the numbers and everybody was on the same page I remember this was all happening not doing good weather but when it was actually snowing and freezing rain in an area that hasn't had it for years big thumbs up to the guys and gals attached to Battalion 7 at Hartsfield., well done troops well done..... no casualties no injuries the passengers and crew we're fine., the engine number two .... not so much. And the one thing you have to notice is everybody on the radio was listening to all of the traffic not just certain parts. That's why this was handled as smoothly as it was and there was a little bit of a delay in radio communication response but you have to remember everything is happening at once., and this is also happening in real time in weather conditions that are actually dropping at the time of the incident., at an airport that doesn't get snow that often

Controller did a good job! The only feedback is perhaps she *could* have told Delta 2668 that there was reported fire/smoke coming from right engine after having been told there was by trucks at least 2 times. Whether or not she had clear visibility of such from her POV is irrelevant. That extra info would allow for evacuation to be initiated immediately. GREAT active listening by the flight crew because Controller initially bypassed that info. In a situation like this, that was the part flight crew NEEDED to hear right away. Especially when they already lead with "engine failure" (which does not necessarily indicate fire/smoke)...so I do think it was imperative to report that part ASAP. Shoutout to the guy that came in hot with that "NEGATIVE! NEGATIVE! There's flames..." call. Lol he gets it!👌🏾
