I know exactly how you feel. People discriminated against lattice users like me in school, which is just a dumb thing to do. Math is unlimited yet I have had to deal with failed tests and ripped paper. Lattice is actually superior to most formulas in my opinion.

Nowadays if you have the time and resources to do it on paper, you'd have a calculator too, which is more practical. What we need is a shortcut for doing it in our heads. The way I would calculate it in my head: 104*236 = 100*236 + 4*236 = 23600 + ( (10*236)/2 - 1*236) = 23600 + ( (2360)/2 - 236) = 23600 + (1180 - 236) = 23600 + (1000 + 180 - 236) = 23600 + (1000 - 56) = 23600 + 944 = 24544 You could also do it like: 104*236 = 100*236 + 4*236 = 23600 + ( (4*200) + (4*30) + (4*6) ) = 23600 + ( 800 + 120 + 24 ) = 23600 + (920 + 24) = 23600 + 944 = 24544
@edwardcortez66627 жыл бұрын
Eduard Georgiev You did that in your head? If so, how long do equations like that usually take you? And how long do you need to practice to get to that level?
@fijigoya12367 жыл бұрын
So true
@nhatphungblancharddelabrosse7 жыл бұрын
That's easy when you have a number close to a simple multiple like 100. I doubt there's any mental shortcut for 173x438 besides doing what you'd do on paper in your head. Thus, you'd need great memory and processing skills.

My school actually taught this after teaching us the long multiplication way but no one really cared about this because we were already use to doing long multiplication and felt that lattice was too much work. We were actually forced to practice using lattice. Edit: if they actually had a way where we can do long division like this, it would probably be more popular.

I think the main difference between long division and the lattice method is that the harder part in long division is the computation rather than the setup, whereas in the lattice method the most time consuming part is the setup.

Learned this in elementary school, traditional is so much better. And more people use traditional
@imogensharif43487 жыл бұрын
I am so happy you covered this! When I was first starting multiplication in 3rd grade, we were given three ways where we had to do multiplication, one being traditional, one being area model (which is as dumb as it sounds) and lattice. I was the only one who actually used lattice on a regular basis and I quickly was the fastest at multiplication. In middle school I was handed failed tests back because of me using lattice but I still use it now. I've had people rip my papers from my hands and tear them to pieces jusy because I was using lattice. I just have always loved this formula and am glad others are being exposed to this quick and easy way of doing multiplication.

I’m in LOVE with lattice multiplication. Lattice has been the most appropriate method for me since I was young. I can’t seem to like the standard form😂I got so surprised when I saw you using this method, so I clicked this video really quickly! (Ps. I’m aware that lattice multiplication is used by many people but, at least from where I’m from, it is really rare.)
