After: LEFT - 86% RIGHT - 84% I doubt a 30 second install caused much better drain so I'm assuming they've changed the algorithm. (These were replacement buds that came with 1.5.0)

I saw one thing with the multipoint, like the WH-1000MX4/5 your codec is set to AAC once you get two devices connected so your sound gets downgraded, so you don't get that rich sound quality.

Recently updated to firmware 2.0.0 on my WF-1000XM4 and immediately had a massive power drain on the right bud - when both buds charged to 100% I only get around 40 minute use on the right bud before its down to just while the left bud is still over 90%. This keeps repeating now and there doesn't appear to be any solution which actually helps. Yes I appreciate there is always some battery degradation over time but not so instant and hugely imbalanced. I have watched numerous videos on this but nothing seems to help - I have noticed many comments about getting Sony to replace my beloved XM4's but my warranty is finished.

Don't worry about them being out of warranty. I had the same issue, contacted Sony, after going through their steps to try to reset them unsuccessfully they offered me an exchange at no charge. I recommend you reach out to them asap

After this update, i can use the earbuds longer, 20% consumption battery for 2 hours nonstop. If you want better anc, change your earfoam to eartips (from rubber) trust me it's 2x better and better bass

The sound quality is slightly better especially bass respond imo, furthermore i normally listen at %60 of volume, but when i turned up to %100 now the difference is more significant than before, thanks sony

Yes it became better. For me I got bonus updates on the same day my mobile got Android 13 and xm4 got multi point both improved my mobile Dolby used to be stopped having weird bug now both of them working great 😀.

​@@ced777 I believe it was after a previous update. I updated one day before 2.0 dropped and noticed that my battery case was draining very fast. After updating to 2.0 i noticed that my battery levels on my buds were not very uniform. Did a full charge on both my case and buds overnight, next morning confirmed that my buds were both at 100%. At work, I checked again and lo and behold... uneven battery levels on my buds.

Again, about the battery thing (broken record, I know), I'm starting to wonder if that is really an actual consumption issue, but rather an issue in the way that the firmware reads battery levels. I'm no engineer, but I have a battery drain of 48 seconds per point of percentage. if that were true, wouldn't the earbud get significantly warmer? the energy has to go somewhere, right?

Here's a very, very freaky goings on. My right bud always drained about to 0 whilst my left was at about 18%. Since getting the 1.6.x update it switched around with the left now always draining quicker to a very similar degree in both my sets. I wait with confused and worried baited breath to see what happen from now on with update 2.0? Lol. Thanks.

I confirm it is the battery “hardware” issue. After only replacing the battery in R bud by myself and played 30 mins, L|R batteries drained to 72|100 from 100|100. Yes, the power is well kept in R bud! Battery replacement should be the only way to solve this power drain problem. - FW 1.6.1

Oddly enough, i had to unpair with my phone in order to pair with my PC. once it had paired with the PC, i went back to the phone and it was immediate pairing. strange, just thought i would share that.

How I solved microphone quality issues with the XM4 : I bought an USB audio splitter (mic / headphones) I added an external mic on it, unidirectional type to catch my voice in noisy environments With a Bluetooth transmitter to plug the XM4 on the headphones line. Everything is connected through USB C I connect it whenever it's necessary for a call.

I was having same issues with firmware 1.4.2.... sony service centre replaced both batteries in earbuds... It's been month now, no complaints at all regarding battery.... Getting around 6-6.5 hrs of playback (40% volume, dse auto, LDAC, no ANC)

So sadly this update has not resolved the issue. I charged them 100% and also did the reset test. I had them playing about 40 mines, left ear is 99% and the right ear is 46%😥. Thanks for the comments guys. Good to know not alone and some good suggestions.

Just wanted to come with a personal update. Since 2.0 upgrade my right bud always says 100% and thus never gives me the low power warning at 20%. It also runs dead 20% quicker than my left, this wasn't what happened previously. I have not noticed any difference in my second set but will now be keeping a close eye on them. Thanks.

2nd Update- When my right bud dies my left bud just kept going before, or now and then I just had to disconnect/reconnect via the phones Bluetooth option. Not now, the left will not work any longer once the right has died. How strange! Sigh!

I think this Update fixed the weird change in sound when turning them up more than around 60-70% - before, the bass was turned down and the whole listening experience became not great (which is an understatement). I also appreciate the Multipoint Feature, worked perfectly with my Tab S8+ and S21 Ultra, especially for Phone Calls.

I FINALLY got my WF-1000XM4s updated yesterday and the firmware doesn't work well. I can connect the headphones to my laptop, although they were connected on my phone. BUT, if I stop the music on the laptop and I play ANY music on my phone, I hear nothing. It's like it stays connected on one device and it doesn't switch. That's... stupid. 😑

Works fine for me though. Check in the app on the status page if music playback is fixed to your laptop. It's a 'lock icon'. It can be deactivated

I went from 1.4.2 to 2.0, and it feels like some sort of dynamic compression is applied to music. It feels like volume is changing while listening. It seems like such dynamic compression was always there before but just a little bit l, now it is noticeable more.

After update I wanted to listen music, but left one did not work properly. It only made noise cancelling/ambient sound commands, but there was no music. The right one was worked properly. Then I tried to unpair/pair from my Samsung s21, but I was not able to get the Buds in pairing mode. I tried resetting and initializing the Buds, but it still not going in pairing mode after pressing both buds for 5 secs at the same time. When I put them on, both of them says "The battery is fully charged", left one is still making noise cancelling/ambient sound commands, but Bluetooth pairing is still not working... Does anyone have this kind of issue? There is no Sony service center in my country :(

Has the update effected sound latency? On previous multipoint enabled earbuds there was a significant lag between video to audio meaning serious lip sync issues on youtube and films making them impossible to watch. I read it might be to do with the codecs, but would he good to know before updating. Any help appreciated.

Hi, I hope u r doing excellent! I have an issue with my xm4's dual pairing arrangement. If I'm connected to my laptop and my cellphone together, when I get a call on my laptop say on the Microsoft Teams app, I am not able to hear the persons voice. In my personal case, the update has bring to my earphones some little scratchy noises, it seems like I'm listening to a vinyl record. With the v.1.41 doesn't occur. I use it connected to a Fiio M6. I've tried to change the audio type to LDAC, but it's the same result. I'm weighing to try a downagrade (it's a risky operation). What do you think, Aaron? Got it today as mentioned in your other video. Perfect for my use case of phone connection and direct watch audio/bt call connection. At last. I actually run two sets of buds but from one case and so had to do two updates today. I hope XM5's offer better value for money? Apart from how good or bad, vastly improved or if only iterate, I just want fair value for my money please Sony. A bud in this day and age should have all operations available on the ear buds, don't make us have to choose between operational actions. Mic quality has to be improved, it's embarrassing. Maybe beef up the water resistance? We will pay a fair price for a fair product. Thanks for the video

Wanted to echo some of the folks here who had positive experiences after they reached out to Sony about the battery issue. I spoke with a Sony rep recently, and after going through some failed troubleshooting, I was told that I was eligible for an exchange for a new pair of XM4's. They sent me a pre-paid FedEx shipping label along with instructions and was told I'd be sent the new pair as soon as they receive the earbuds and verify that they are defective. FYI, I purchased my XM4's 17 months ago, but the Sony rep told me I was eligible for the exchange due to "an extended warranty for this specific issue with your earbuds."

He went through this in his previous videos about the xm4s, the earlier batches had a bug where the battery had issues, therefore if you explain your situation to sony, they would help you with a replacement, unsure if it's free of charge.

Was excited for the multi point Updated to 2.0 today and it was working great. But my right earphone just made a loud popping sound and is now just making whooshing sounds when anc/ambient sound is enabled. Probably not related to the update, it just sucks, wish me luck for RMA :(

How can you recommend Sony's products when each firmware you might have a new issue? They won't replace headset units for everyone ( even under warranty ), They should be ruled out completely when playing with their buyers.

I have the XM4, In terms of battery, they got worse than before. Mine are of the first batch and the battery was damaged with 1.4.2 and right bud only passed from lasting 2 or 3 hours to just 10 minutes. Now with 2.0.0 this got worse. Right bud discharges in just 1 and a half minute and left one reduced from 3 hours to just 1. Its a shame as these are the best sounding buds ive tested😢

I tried all: Sony wf1000xm4 best sound quality + worst phone call quality + very good ANC AirPods Pro 2: best sound quality too but different with Sony + best ANC + best phone call quality Bose comfort buds (1st.gen) best ANC + best phone call quality + sound quality is just good but I don’t like the its sound Jabra elite 85t(=Huawei=Samsung): very good sound quality + average ANC + very good phone call quality

The new firmware did a grand total of jack shit for battery's drain issue, but now the left earbud can't charge above 80%. outstanding.

The right earbud of my "xm4" drains way faster than my left earbud. Even after I place it in the case for charging & take it out after a while, the left would be fully charged while the right would be just 80% charged. Does anyone have this problem? If so, do you know how to fix it?

Man... Before the updates... I had no issue with the left earbud battery draining fast issue. After the update, my left side earbud battery level drains real quick... Right side 61% Left side 11% Anyone else experiencing this issue too? =c

This happened to me too but it was related to the update back in december 5, 2022. Its about the earphones managing the battery. Which in irony, made it a lot worse. Just like yours my left bud is at 0 while right is 60-70. Had no other choice than to visit a sony centre and they replaced it.

I was really excited about this update because this was the only missing feature that was making me consider switching to airpods pro 2, despite having a strong preference for xm4s. However, it is riddled with bugs to the point of being virtually unusable and requiring to be completely reset multiple times a day. 1. When using spotify on my iphone and mac with multipoint connectivity enabled on both, I need to close the spotify application on one device while playing it on the other, otherwise it pauses every 5 seconds. That is very inconvenient because the bass settings are only available on the mobile phone application but I want to be able to play and skip songs from my laptop without having to pull out my phone every time. Multiple people on reddit have reported the same problem. 2. When speak to chat is triggered and then turned off, the audio shows that it is playing again but nothing is audible through the earphones. The earphones need to be put back in the case and taken out again. 3. One or both sides randomly stop working. The earphones need to be put back in the case, the lid needs to be opened and closed 5+ times to reset them, only then does it go back to working normally. In conclusion, this update is an example of bad software experience ruining good hardware. Seriously considering switching to airpods pro 2 now despite liking the sound of the xm4s.
