I purchased my first guitar/amp pack from G4M a decade ago as part of my mid-life crisis. I've been buying from them ever since and consider myself 90% satisfied. The last purchase I made was a headless model from the Harlem range. £150 plus p&p. Silly money for an instrument that works out of the box. Yes, you will be required to put in an hour's work on the frets and set up to make the instrument the best it can be.

I made sure to FF through the entire demo track! 🤣🤣🤣 (JK, it rocked! 🤘🏻🎸😎). Great review. I saw another Tele style model reviewed by someone else with a burl top that looked sick. Looks like it’s worth checking out for people who don’t mind doing setups and their own minor tinkering. They really should get better tuners on there as a stock option. Nobody wants to have to buy new tuners just because a company slapped on some metal resembling “Grover’s,” lol. The price point is irrelevant- they need to be functional for the instrument in this day and age. Lots of budget brands have great basic tuners that stay in tune. It’s no longer an excuse that it’s a budget guitar. which is easy to fix by getting a different reliable supplier like Guyker or Arctec (who makes the legit Grover’s in Korea and sells them to budget brands for less under their own branding). Most customers would rather shell out a few bucks more on a guitar for the assurance that they have great tuners instead of the hassle and expense of buying new ones to install. They also clearly need to add some tuner packs for reverse headstocks. I also agree about the logo. Is that a sticker? Whatever it is, it needs a major overhaul ASAP. Someone commented that this company was formerly the SubZero brand that change its branding recently. I never heard of SubZero, but they need to create a logo and image for themselves. Whether it’s a written branding or some sort of logo on the headstock, what they’re doing now will make people go elsewhere. Branding is very important to people, but even to those who don’t care, nobody wants to have a tag on a guitar that makes it look like it’s a warehouse guitar when the guitar itself looks and sounds great. Thanks for sharing G4M! Despite the criticism, which is all fair, it does have the potential to become some great budget guitars if they can address the problems.

The Sub Zero logo was perfectly fine, I have Baritone Sub Zero Paradigm. The same guitar is still available with the new logo and I have to admit I may not have bought it with that logo.... that's both weird , and a big deal.

Reverse headstocks look cool until you try to find string sets at a extra long legnth. For anyone that buys this, StringJoy is all that will be long enough. I have the reverse headstock G4M baritone at 30" scale and StringJoy is all that was long enough. But I got it set up in drop F# and double drop D sometimes, super fun.
@Burbund2 ай бұрын
Probably shouldn't be that much of an issue on shorter scale? I only played 30" baritone with 4+4 headstock and never realy had problem with strings (mostly ernie balls)
@rickyturner27422 ай бұрын
Finding strings isn't an issue. D'Addario and Ernie Ballsacks fit just fine
@TheMirrorify2 ай бұрын
30 might be a stretch but I have a reverse headstock 27" and it's fine with standard string sets.
@rickyturner27422 ай бұрын
I bought the SubZero version, pretty much the same but the headstock has the same finish as the body, and it had locking tuners. As with your one, i changed out the tuners for locking ones from Axetec, no tuning issues now. And I've put an EMG 707 in. Tuned to A it sounds pretty damn good and plays pretty well. For just over £300 here in the UK I'm more than happy with it

Thanks a lot for the honest and detailed presentation! But this whole business does leave me thinking if the (essentially good) fanfret idea is actually working out. There is not much gained from the low strings sounding better if the intonation is off, IMO.

I did listen to the song and it gave me strong early-2000s vibes and I wouldn't accuse it of being nu-metal either. I am normally one that skips the songs, except for your last couple. It's a me thing because I just don't like power metal style singing. This guitar seems decent if you need a fan fret 7 on a very low budget. It needs a setup with those nut slots but it's still pretty decently priced. I don't think those pickups sounded good with gain, but thankfully they are a standard looking soap bar and can be easily replaced. I learned this week how difficult it will be for me to find replacement pickups for my LTD M1007-MS because they spec'ed a Nazgul/Sentient set with angled baseplates. You can't even buy an angled pickup from the Seymour Duncan custom shop because I wanted to try the new rail versions. This seems like a good guitar for learning setup and maybe doing light mods, but have a luthier or tech do the nut slots because not everyone will work on a fan fret nut if you mess it up.
@pakiw2Ай бұрын
Same guitars was sold there as subzero, I think they changed factories and some legalities with branding, Long ago I bought an 8-string, fanfret, same finish, scale 25.5"-28", locking tuners. Only what I changed was pickups, because for an 8-string Chinese factories use 5string bass pickups :D. otherwise no problems there. for years it gets used on par with everything else (ibanezes,solars,dingwalls). What turned me in to buying one was funny branding, in the end turned out having good guitar.

My 13 year-old got on youtube and replaced the strings, including string gauge different on his Floyd Rose dinky j32 the first time buy himself and I found out about it after the fact. And it was intonate perfectl when he was done , he had lowered the action and it was really well set up from the factory

Great video! This 7 string guitar is interesting. I'm still looking for a good 7 string guitar, but the guitars that I tried and that I really like are really expensive, like the Mayones 7 string fanfret duvell elite models, the blue morpho 7 string from Wreck Guitar or the yuma custom 7 string from Boxis Guitars.... Gear4 music in Mülheim, Germany, is not too far away from me, maybe it will be a good idea to try some guitars in this guitar store... I'm also thinking about to upgrade a cheap but good guitar with better pickups (Lundgren, passive pickups), locking tuners and maybe with new pots and wiring...to save money and to create my own 7 string guitar... A 7 string guitar comparison in the moderate price section would be nice. I also think it is necessary to have 2 or 3 seven string guitars at home to get all the different characters of a 7 string... There are so so many wonderful guitars all around the world and you only have one life.... 🙃

13:27 Yeah, you can't really expect any less from a made in China guitar. This is a case of the nut being too high and every budget guitar you buy will almost certainly need the nut height adjusted. Unfortunately only high end guitars will actually be set up properly as getting the nut height just right is very time consuming. Luckily, I actually enjoy working on and fixing guitars, so this wouldn't be too much of a gripe for me, but for those who can't be bothered, definitely a turnoff. 15:08 Yes, *however* this usually just mean you'll have to tweak some EQ or such. There isn't a big enough tonal difference between pickups for it to be impossible to compensate, especially with distortion. Either way, the tones you demoed were pretty killer metal tones.

I recently bought one of the cheaper G4M 529 7-strings (the non-pro) and let me tell you - when it comes to the extended range there's no better value for money. Sure, there's issues with tuning stability and the guitar has to be set up but this is a sub 200€ instrument. And it often is the case that even more expensive instruments come badly set up. I couldn't be any happier with my 7-string. The value for money is insane

One day someone is going to have to explain to me why every plastic covered pickup I've ever heard has no top end sparkle.
