Biggest thing I can suggest is an EQ in the effect loop for 8 strings. Cutting basically anything below 100 hz out and then doing a dip around 250 hz really helps, even with an overdrive

A few tips for stupidly low tuning; -foam behind the strings at the headstock -dense foam underneath the pickups -copper tape in the bodie's cavities -take the bass out and boost mids and trebles pre-preamp then bring the bass back in using an EQ pedal in the FX loop 👍

The pickup sensitivity might not be the pickups as much as the extended range. Bigger strings cause more effect on the magnetic field on guitars. Typically, you want to have the pickups set lower (more away from the strings) otherwise, the strings will overly push the pickups.

You could get a bass line schecter 8 string for a couple hundred more with better pickups. Or even a ESP. I have the hell raiser with EMG's and a ESP Ltd that I was able to get used for crazy prices. Especially for the condition they are in. That guitar sounds great on that expensive setup, but I wasn't to impressed when you ran it through the amp sim or w.e. you had it in. Seems like a decent option though for someone who wants to dip their toes into the 8 string world without spending much.

Rondo Music has a budget 8-string as well, the HADEAN ELS 8 BK currently at $200 if anyone is interested; it has a 27" scale... I for one would certainly like to see Taylor check out some more budget extended range options! I also see a 25.5" scale 8-string on amazon branded as Gstyle for $229, which is also sold as a BexGear unfinished kit (many have said these are just blemished factory seconds that may need fixing) It would be cool to see Taylor try that Gstyle 8-string with this tuning: F-C-F-A#-D#-g-c-f, which would be Standard C in the middle 6 strings with a low dropped F and a high F as well! Or change the g to g# for Standard F on the high 6 strings, if that is more comfortable to play! Keep on Rocking everyone! \m/

Not a bassist myself, but I wanna know what the bassist is supposed to play. Get 200+ gauge strings to thump an octave lower than dad-rock territory? I prefer downtuned 6 OR a 7 slightly downtuned (besides, 5 string basses are getting cheap and effective). I'm at least glad that this 8 string has fanned frets... non-fanned 7 strings already have enough intonation/tension quirks.

G4M has a Rhodes V in 7 a banger for like 300 bucks. Wtf lol I t hink 7/8 String prices have come down to match 6 banger prices. I paid a grand for my 7 string Schecter multiscale 2 years ago.....Aftyer trying Firefly I now know in 2024, name brands mean nothing......I could have bought 2-3 fireflys for what I paid. I know I'm always on here going on about Firefly, but there is a reason. lol

The problem I notice with all these budget guitars is, by the time you've replaced the machineheads(essential $50- $200), pickups(essential $200+) and bridge and any other bad or noisy electronics, you've spent the same amount as you would for a very decent ready to go gig guitar that your friends would envy, you know the guitar you should have bought in the first place! My advice is, be patient, keep saving and keep practicing in the mean-time, you won't regret being more patient! Like those kids who spend £150'000 eventually, making their boring car go fast over 5 years, when that patient kid next door that had a crappy old hand me down turns up with a used lambo or ferrari! You quickly learn hindsight is a real b***h!

i think branding is over rated, i bought a PRS Mark Holcomb Signature Seven a few years ago and as soon as i changed the strings the nut fell on the floor didnt have enough adhesive from factory, also the truss rod was way off but probably because of the many people that played it in the shop before i bought it, some of the best guitars i've ever played cost sub 1,000$ USD most usually around 500$ but if theres any guitar i've played that is ABSOLUTELY insane its an ibanez prestige without the floyd rose.

Any chance to try that small 20 SS head they have? BTW cabinets they have are great. Guitars are amazing, for a long time it was cool until YTubers started to post about them, becouse i would wait on discount and get em cheep. In the past they had some sick models.

@@TaylorDanley OK cool, thx for answering. Well i don't know in details how it goes when you have a YT chanel, but IMHO they have some nice deals. You did a favour to people who didn't knew about them. There are some other HQ brands under radar from Europe, if you interested i'll name them. One of them make guitars in Europe ala PRish but price started from like 600US$, and qulity is equal to 3000 US$ guitars, attention to details wood etc. Basically i like HQ equipment that is not expensive lol, and i collect data for the last 15 years ☺, and work as repairmen, wind pickups, design tools etc. but it's amazing when you can find 1st class guitar cheap, after all it's 21st century, great guitars are made all over the world.

@@TaylorDanley Sorry i forgot to put like on video, so i did it now👍, i like some of your videos..I might subscribe..Since you are in the US? I'm a bit jealous becouse your 2nd market is a treasure for amazingly HQ forgotten modells of guitars and amps from 80's, 90's. And early 2000. Old MIK Washburns, Hamer guitars, tons of Korean brands who tried to make a change on a market, Indonesian like ''Laguna'' guitars, their higher models were superb, Greg Howe had a signature. MIJ Fernandes, also MIK Fernandes and new MIC are so cheap in the US and uber HQ guitars...To cut long story short, rock on, I wish you all the best, cheers. 🤘👍

ive got that guitar for more than a year, not stainless steel frets, they are nickel. The pickups are pretty good for the price, they are bassy and very spikey, a mid boost can help you out. You must copper shield it to perform well to high gain, and also setup the frets because most of them are unleveled. The angulation of the pickups makes the 8th string and the 1st weaker on output so take that on consideration. Angulated open pickups like Elysian is recommended. Overall, its a verygood guitar for the price, but you will invest on heavy setup to make it work for studio recording. So, its up to you

@@TaylorDanley No, when i bought it, the page already said they where stainless. My luthier , who's top 1 in my country, told me that they werent stainless steel, because stainless steel is harder to work than nickel, and they werent. They are nickel indeed but i think they market it was stainless steel to gain appeal.

@@blacksaonamusic I'm 100% sure they wouldn't just market=lie about stainless steel frets! That would be immoral AF! It's not like G4M is Temu or some noname Chinese company. Thus if we are to believe ur n:o 1 luthier, then I believe G4M has been scammed by the supplier! I hope u reported ur findings to G4M?! They might be unaware of this matter.

@@MaximusAdonicus to be honest, for the price i wouldnt care if they are stainless steel or not. Affordable brands like Soloking indeed are one of the few that has true stainless steel frets at that price point.
