Multivan (Caravelle UK) Rail System - Operating & Installing Seats

A brief guide to the Volkswagen Multivan T6.1 & T6 & T5GP seat rail system, operating of the rear 3-bench seat and removal and installation of the captains chairs.
Note - the Multivan is known the the Caravelle in the UK.

I work at VW in Wolfsburg, I live 100kms away from Hannover where these cars are made. You can imagine that I know a whole bunch of people involved in the production process. Very helpful vid - does anyone know if, when the 2 captains chairs (2nd row) are removed, can you slide the 3 seat bench all the way forwards, so you effectively end up with a 5 seater with a load of space behind the bench for bikes etc? Thanks!

Hi John - Yes once you slide the two captains chairs forward and remove them you can then slide the triple bench seat all the way to the most forward position to have an incredibly large rear load space. As a side note this is also whether triple bench seat would need to be to remove it from the vehicle as well (I.e. through the side sliding doors not through the rear tailgate)

Thanks for video. My van seats are really heavy and hard to move. Do you have amy trick to make the smoother. To me what you did in the back seat is nearly impossible I almost break my back trying to push seat a little forward

Great video! Rather than two captains chairs can you install a 3 seat bench on the rail but have it facing the rear 3 seat bench? Ty

The 3-er bench seat designed for the rail system is unable to be installed in a rear facing direction. It is designed such that when introduced into the van through the sliding door facing rearwards, the feet will not enter into the rail system.

Skis should not be a problem at all - snowboard might be too wide :)

Hello, I checked the Vanessa website for transporter conversion options but can't seem to find what I'm looking for in regards to having the rail system installed with seats like the ones in this video. Looks great!

Excellent video. Is the flat folding bench designed for sleeping on? And do you know if the bench seat has anchor mounts for child seats?

Hi Rob yes the folding flat bench seat is designed for sleeping on particularly when using the deluxe comfort memory foam mattress. And yes the rear bench seat has three child anchor points with iso fix as well as top together at the back of the seat for all three positions :) happy travels!

Does anyone know if it's possible to remove the 3 seater in the same way as the captains? Also, is it then possible to reinsert the captains and slide them all the way to the back of the van (in the position where the 3 seater should be)

Yes the 3-er seat also comes out in exactly the same way through the side doors - best to have 2 people lift. And yes the single captain's can slide all the way back to the rear. Thanks for watching and asking. Mark.

@@busterbumhole84 Sweet - in my opinion having worked with many van types the Volkswagen Multivan (UK = Caravelle) is the most versatile due to the track rail system and sophisticated seat manipulation (rear seat is like a rock and roll bed that lays flat etc). I don't think so, but you can probably buy two extra single seats

Yes - can comfortably seat 7 adults in the Short Wheelbase Multivan. Even with the VanEssa rear kitchen in the Multivan.

You could purchase new from Volkswagen or look for second hand but the bigger issue is they are not designed or certified for the Hiace
