The question of relevance in an age of googling-is-easy doesn't trap everything in amber, if people want to learn just enough to level up.

As someone that was once doing an arts degree but then dropped out after a semester by my own choice because I wasn’t happy there, I can understand why Pam still looks back on that as a failure. Even tho I made the choice to leave, and I know that it was the right thing to have done, I can still feel like I failed when I look back, and when I want to try something new I worry I will give it up again like I gave that up. I empathise with Pams insecurity and self doubt this episode quite a lot even if she’s assessing her past unfairly. Great Episode! I’ve watched the office so many times and now binging through your reviews for the first time and loving it!

So two things: first technically you are right. Pam did not fail art school, she failed one class and she could easily retake it, even at this point. That said, she did fail at completing art school, not because she took the class but because she quit. This brings me to my second point. Pam does not succeed because she does not stick with anything long enough to see it through. The second it gets hard, she pulls out *(that's what she said)*. She was only in art school for three months and she was only a salesman for little over a year, (part of that time she was on maternity leave), you cannot expect to be good at sales when everyone else with the possible exception of Andy has been doing it for almost a decade or more. So you are definitely right about how this victory does not feel earned, especially since this is an easy victory she could have gotten since knowing what a landlord can and cannot do is a pretty easy google search.

The China debate is definitely more relevant than Inception. China is still rising to become the next superpower. The debate does not feel outdated at all.

Regarding the question of if Michael is an idiot or a secret genius: I think that so many things throughout the show point to him being neurodivergent. People can easily say that Dwight has some type of neurodivergence, but Michael does this for me too.
@davidmoncholi67462 жыл бұрын
I agree
@songbird6414 Жыл бұрын
I agree, but funny enough this still doesn’t answer the question. Is he smart or not? I’d argue that neurodivergence doesn’t answer that.

Michael just deciding he wins at the end is more annoying than funny but I just hate when any sitcom does that." Because reasons" only has so many uses. Solid enough episode though. More Hank is really fun. Love Andy and Dwight's subplot. Your explanation really adds some depth to things.

Pam could have passed art school but she missed jim more 😢
@barbiebreen9 ай бұрын
I think it's pretty clear it doesn't matter if Pam "failed" art school. She didn't pass on the first try (like most of her classmates probably did) and she chose not to finish. She attempted a degree/certification and doesn't hold that degree-- That, in her eyes, is a failure. Especially when you stack it with the emotions surrounding her lack of success as a saleswoman. It's much less about the facts and way more about the feelings. But that's just my take as a female artist who has attempted a degree she ultimately didn't get 😂
@fabricaHumanoide2 жыл бұрын
Pam really won this battle, before this even happened. Because Dwith gave up for his frienship with her, and that genuine friendship started years ago. Besides, why critize her because of failure? It is an important part of growing as a person. That is why Pam is a great developed character, in my opinion. Good analisys btw.

You always defend Pam and you're right most of the time, except for 2 occasions, her lashing out at Michael so bad when he dated her mom, and especially the second one making it so difficult for Jim when he was in Philly considering that they could've been perfectly happy and likely rich had he gone through with that
@2wayalley743 Жыл бұрын
it was that he never told her initially and that he invested so much money from their savings without first consulting her. and when he was in Philly, she essentially had parent their two kids alone, which would naturally breed frustration, stress, and discontent. it's easy to say now that oh they could have been happy and rich but thats in hindsight. what if it fell though and they were left with thousands of dollars down the drain? theres a level of uncertainly that comes with such a major leap of faith especially in the moment

I don't dislike Pam, but she DID fail art school. Literally failure is defined as a lack of success. She did not succeed. She failed. But it's that so bad? People need to shift their understanding of failure and stop thinking of it as such a negative thing
@OrestisKoutsoupias2 жыл бұрын
Pam has this weird loser/quitter attitude that only completely goes away at the very end of the show. She's not evil or horrible or anything just.. deeply flawed. Like all of us.

For me, it was the Philly arc that made me hate Pam. I had no problem wit her failures or anything else. If fact, I actually liked her especially in the 1st 4 seasons, but that Philly arc really wasn't executed very well. She acted like Jim wanting a better job was selfish lol. N that she was doing him a favor by "letting" him WORK...lol. u know, smt that NOBODY wants to do...
