Mum's Love Transcends Pain Of Her Rare Disease | On The Red Dot | CNA Insider

Singaporean 34-year-old Zakiah Jaafar lives with Buerger's Disease, a rare and incurable condition that leaves her in constant excruciating pain.
The wounds on her limbs are currently infected, but she puts off admitting herself to Singapore General Hospital to attend her 6-year-old son's graduation from PCF Sparkletots Preschool at Radin Mas. "I might not be able to see his other graduations, so I'd rather fight to go see." All this despite the fact that an infection could spell further tissue death in her limbs.

@grape juice If the husband had kept his vows, they wouldn't be divorced now, would they. I highly doubt that she had the child after her divorce. Following the timeline of her disease progression, her age and the age of the child , it wouldn't be hard to put that information together and come to the obvious conclusion that the husband left after they had the child and after her disease worsened. I'm sorry if I have little faith in men. Not many people take marriage vows seriously these days. Once upon a time they used to be sacred, not so much anymore.

@grape juice Ok, for arguments sake. Let's say he has no idea she has this disease. If he was a good father to his child, coming by to visit him or have shared parenting, he WOULD know that they both are suffering. Being divorced does not mean giving up being a parent. Even if he gives up custody, there is such a thing called a "non-custodial parent" He is still the father, and he should be responsible for the child he took part in creating. Not doing so is simply irresponsible. You can clearly see he has not been around for either of them. He doesn't even have any kindness in his heart to look after his ex-wife of child. He abandoned his wife and son. It is a despicable act of cowardice. When the going gets tough, you stay and work through it. Not throw in your towel and bugger off.

I believe Singapore as a very small country is in a very privileged position where all of us can help each other in some way. A lot of us are doing well and a lot of us aren't. We can't fix everything or everyone's problems but we sure can try and be better people by helping those in need.
