Mum tries out Windows ME (2000) [Prank Included]

A few years back I was really into programming and made heaps of small programs. This was a prank application that I made in 2010 yet still had on my computer. It was incompatible with windows me however so I ran it on windows 7 which is the operating system running the windows me virtual machine. The program auto runs after 10 minutes or so and overlapped the virtual machine. Go ahead and download it now from the description if you wanna try it out on your own computer to prank your friends ;)

Actually Windows Me wasn't bad. It was plagued by bad buggy programs that came with it. In fact I still use windows Me today.

Also just because you cant boot into dos doesnt mean that its compatiblity sucks. Yet again you did not read the link I gave you. it said me is not for DOS FREAKS!!! You generally fix up the computer disabling unstable stuff before giving it to a client. Reboot it a couple times, verify it looks good on first launch. The ScanDIsk prompt only comes up if the system has not been shut down properly before, probably because you were causing BSODs on it. Me and 2000 had shap icons, with clear gradients to them. A hard disk looked rectangular as its supposed to, and all the special bling functions like My Pictures also had their icons in the same style. XP wasn't an improvement up ME. It's based on 2000, improved in some ways, and screwed up in others with consumer features brought over from ME.

I used to always see that Active Desktop Recovery thing on Windows XP at my school's computer lab, they used that classic theme thing so I'm not sure if it did on the other themes but I know it was XP, I knew far more about computers than anyone else in the classroom for years and pretty much knew how to do things already as they were teaching us how to use Microsoft Word and other easy things, while I'm just sitting there knowing how to program games, install multiple operating systems on the same computer and boot people offline. (not that I would do that)

Windows Sam Actually, Windows ME did crash but the scary things and those things are part of a prank that you can download from the description. It's not mainly part of WINDOWS ME but windows me still had a lot of problems. Just stick with the newer Windows or the ones that actually work like 7 or 8 or 10

That information you said about Active Desktop being added in Windows ME and being removed in Windows XP is wrong. Active Desktop was introduced with Internet Explorer 4's Windows Desktop Update, with the intention of being run on Windows 95. It was then included in later Windows OSes; Windows NT 4, 98, 2000, ME, XP and Server 2003 before being discontinued following the release of Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Vista, being replaced by Windows Sidebar and Windows Desktop Gadgets.

Actually Windows Me was based on Windows 9x which was dos based but Windows XP was based on Windows 2000 which came several months before Windows Me. Which is why XP was much more stable than Me.

I know ME had its problems but it was the first OS i remember properly growing up with, my dad bought a Compaq Presario in 2000 with this installed on it (was a proper dear pc aswell!). Got a real softspot for it purely for nostalgia reasons haha. specifically remember the first boot up of it and ME scanned the drive saying there was an error, did it every time for the next 5 years of its life :P
