As someone trying to write a story and post it online, it's actually really annoying having no 'dislike' button. All readers can do is like. I have no indication of how many people are not enjoying my writing, so I have no idea if I should carry on with how things currently are, or if I should see about redoing my plans to try and make my content better.

The dislike feature was good because you could do it for stuff like "funny" videos where an animal is being teased/abused or the person recording is just standing by waiting for the obvious accident to happen that could harm the animal instead of stopping it. Or for another example, like/dislike ratio can be used to put your stamp of disapproval on a load of malarkey someone tries to put out, like basically any statement from blizzard or ubisoft.

The problem is, even if you dislike, you clicked on the video and watched at least part of it. Any interaction at all tells youtube that these videos should be presented still. Even if they're just terrible, unsafe or abusive =/

The fact that youtube considers dislikes and likes as equal for the algorithm is a problem. And while you can report videos, comments, and users it doesn't seem like it does anything. (The sheer amount of bots on this platform is insane, and basically all of them are malicious/advertising and youtube doesn't seem to care)

Dislikes are (since you can still see them with a browser extension) also handy for how-to videos, since you can tell it's a bad tutorial or wrong if it's mostly disliked.

what bugs me is i cant see the likes or dislikes on a video unless i click on it. if a video obviously has an extraordinarily high amount of dislikes i know its probably a bs clickbait title or something and dont want to click on it at all. but i dont know that until i click.

Me not liking a video or the content in it does not mean I am a hater. Feels like a very shallow way to look at it. And some videos are truly horrible, all be it for simple things like click bait or actual misleading stuff.

True but if you follow someone for the pure purpose to dislike their videos that’s pretty weird 🤷‍♀️ Having dozens of people dislike a video within 10 minutes does sound like a bunch of haters

Big youtubers get their videos pushed by the algorithm basically instantly and people who have never seen their content before might click. Of course, it also depends on the length of the video and how quickly someone could be offended/upset by it's contents.

Dislike a video by a creator you like to promote their channel while also giving feedback on on the direction the channel is going. It is painful how much of a bad rap criticism has been getting lately. Criticism is good!

I use dislikes to try and reduce my impact watching had on the algorythm for videos that are click-bait, misleading, etc. I don't dislike out of spite or to make someone feel bad, but simply because it's the one thing I can do to at least partially undo the mistake of clicking on a video that wasn't what it claimed to be.

Back when KZbin showed viewers the number of dislikes a video had, it could be used to signal to other viewers that the content was misleading or contained misinformation or was just incorrect in some regard. Especially for educational videos and tutorials

The dislike button is more for quality control. I also rarely dislike videos, even ones which certainly deserve one. I guess some people are more liberal with it, or come across your content and don't like your style, or dislike for the sake of it or accidentally. Why you aim for a low dislike ratio rather than eliminating it.

I remember that one video about a custom minecraft command that was supposed to do something awesome but turns out the command only worked on a very old version minecraft and all it did was kill all the entities in my world, I wished that I had trusted the dislike button back then

It's a dislike button not a haye button.. It's there for me to be able to indicate to youtube not to suggest that content to me.. If you want you can remove the dislikes from your analytics

This reminds me of back in season 5 when I would literally wait for mumbo to upload. Back then he always uploaded at noon my time and I would refresh the page until the video popped up.
