Reminds me of certain nights when I'm eating dinner by myself and the family cat shows up to sit by me on the dining table. Lately, though, he seems to be more inclined to my dad and my sister, especially with how much they hold him, something I'm not that confident in but am kinda happy to try.

After my home was broken into one night, I put up security cameras all over the place and one of them is in the living room looking at the front door and the windows. I check the footage now and then and that is when I realized every single time I leave, all 5 of my dogs will just lay about 3 feet from the front door, facing it, and lay like that the entire time i'm gone, even if i'm gone like 10+ hours. They won't go eat or drink or play or do anything except lay there side by side with each other. Very sad. :( I wish I lived in a world where we could always be together, but this cruel world forces me to go outside sometimes and most places discriminate against dogs and don't want them in there. Very sad.

Animals don't generally have the intelligence to come up with things to do. They kind of just react to the things around you. So even though there are 5 dogs they're all waiting for someone else to do something. If you have a yard it's definitely better to leave them outside for that reason because they can have fun reacting to squirrels or bugs or people walking down the street or whatever.

I feel you, when I got 1 dog and saw how lonely she seemed, we got another. Instead of having a playmate, they now just be lonely together lmfao

That's why cats are good. They aren't mentally hostage to our presence like dogs are. A cat and a dog that get along nicely make for two happy pets.

@@AlexBarbu Oh nyo, Seymor :( Its story is just like the Hachiko's one (Hachiko is the symbol of loyalty, I'm sure you have heard about it). That is the best Futurama episode. If you want to see this exactly tear-jerking story, watch the movie Hachi: A Dog's Tale (it's excellent, it's an American adaptation of the real story of Hachiko).

I don’t have pets, but I was pet/house sitting for a friend while they were on a trip. The dogs are friendly with me. I went to the house, made sure the dogs have food and water and played with them for a bit. After a while the dogs walked around to the front of the house, looked at the door, then looked at me. I figured this meant they wanted to go outside so I opened the door and the just stared at me. It took me a moment to realize they were saying it was time for me to go. I got some water for the road, put my things in my pocket and as I was walking out the door the dogs were so happy. I’ve never been so disappointed in myself my entire life. Apparently I sap the energy from dogs in extended proximity that they literally showed me the door.

@@user-bkey i didn’t even mention the worst part. Normally when I am just visiting the dogs could be around me like they’re attached to me or something. When they walked me to the door it was half an hour. They put up with me when their owners are there, but when it was just me they couldn’t wait for me to be out of there apparently. They’ve just been pretending to like me the entire time.

I have a rescue dog too and he was a little older when we got him. He was around six. Separation anxiety is not something that exists for that dog. I can only speculate based on how he reacts to certain things, but he's had some trauma before he became my dog.

when I was in grade 7, I have this cat that watched me go everyday, he'll be just sitting there by the window watching me leave... he watched me go more than any member of my family did up until now, Once, I watched him leave too, he goes somewhere while I held his lifeless body close..

I’ve heard that if a dog’s owner dies it is imperative that the dog be taken to the body If they smell the dead owner they will mourn for them and then move on But if they don’t They wait Forever

This is made so much funnier as this is the exact same thing my dog does if my mother leaves the house. You can get her to stop staring at the door for a few minutes but the moment you aren't distracting her she resets to her "waiting" spot
