Lyrics below:
You may call it in this evening
But you've only lost the night
Present all your pretty feelings
May they comfort you tonight
And I'm climbing over something
And I'm running through these walls
I don't even know if I believe
I don't even know if I believe
I don't even know if I believe
Everything you're trying to say to me
I had the strangest feeling
Your world's not all it seems
So tired of misconceiving
What else this could've been
I don't even know if I believe
I don't even know if I believe
I don't even know if I believe
Everything you're trying to say to me
So open up my eyes
Tell me I'm alive
This is never gonna go our way
If I'm gonna have to guess what's on your mind
Say something, say something
Something like you love me
Less you want to move away
From the noise of this place
Well I don't even know if I believe
I don't even know if I believe
I don't even know if I wanna believe
Everything you're trying to say to me
So open up my eyes
Tell me I'm alive
This is never gonna go our way
If I'm gonna have to guess what's on your mind
So open up my eyes
Tell me I'm alive
This is never gonna go our way
If I'm gonna have to guess what's on your mind

I just love how the lyrics as well as the music reflect the restless feeling you get when you’re in a relationship full of doubts and when you’re suddenly in urgent need of answers. You’re unsure but you want to believe. I love the fact that in the video, it’s night time and he picks up the pace as he gets an adrenaline rush towards the end of the song to reach a park bench in a quiet place overlooking a chaotic city. It’s so familiar to my heart and I love Mumford and Sons for relaying it into a song and video.

I love Mumford & Sons but lets be real here for a moment, you could take their first two albums and mix all their songs back to back seamlessly and it would sound like one, hour and a half long song. Which I loved. Now it's time for a change.

I really love this. It's still sounds huge like the rest of Mumford's catalogue, but it's a new perspective from the band and it's really amazing to hear Marcus's voice behind this sort of landscape. I was a fan before, but this brings them to a whole nother level. So much respect for a band who aren't afraid to be courageous and branch off into new horizons. Different sound, but same heart. I'm all for it.

I don't think people are listening to the whole song before they judge it. As a fan of Coldplay and Mumford And Sons I don't think they sound that similar in this song. Especially not after the 2 minute mark. Just because it's an anthem doesn't mean it sounds like ever other anthem. Regardless, stop comparing and just take it for what it is, music. Even if it does sound like something else, it's still a great song. Try listening to the words instead of finding a comparison to the sound.

Me and my boyfriend got into an argument one night. I drove away and this song started playing, as I listened to it I turned the car around and went back home. When I got there he was waiting for me and we apologized to one another and made things right. It amazes me how this one song had me change my bad decision and do what I knew in my heart was the right thing, despite being hurt. Thank you Mumford and Sons for creating such a beautiful song that I lucked out listening to that night. You helped us overcome a fight that could've separated us. We're going for 2 years now and I'm forever grateful for the beautiful love songs artists create. Those songs help couples love each other even more and remind us that when we have it good, we should suck up our pride and realize that it hurts because that person matters. Thank you.

I think this is an amazingly beautiful song. I have heard many of their songs and this is by far my favorite. ANd I have to agree with Skypost4ever, bands are evolving in their sound. We are no longer children of the past. THis is not your 1990 decade of every song encapsulating the same sound in every song. Musical groups go from being just musical groups to true artists when they can step outside their comfort zone and give their listeners a new and fresh sound. Kudos to Mumford And Sons.

To all those who are saying "This isn't Munford and Sons", just stop. One of the things that made Coldplay great is their ability to change and create different kinds of music without falling into the same rut over and over again. If M&S wrote this song and published it, I will give then the benefit of the doubt. Their music is inspiring and deep and wonderful and resonates with my soul. While this song isn't lyric heavy and is void of that "Folk" sound we love so much, the music still resonates with my soul. I, unlike you, will not be a fair-weather fan. I will appreciate the art, however it may come, for what it is.

***** true that, it feels a bit like I'm enjoying this as much due to the fact that I already love Mumford & Sons, rather than through the song on its own merits (although having listened through to it a couple more times, my ambivalence has turned more into enjoyment). While I an't really just without hearing the rest of the album, it feels a bit like they may still be in the process of finding their new sound, and this could be part of the journey. We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

They are creating music that a wider audience will like, I'll be upfront and say it's not what I expected, and I'm still not sure if I like it a lot, but I'll have to listen to the whole album when I buy it on may 4th. You can't blame them for doing this, music is their job, they obviously LOVE music, and they are trying out different genres. Have you ever heard of Sting? He has done so many different genres of music I can't even count. And like some other people said, Marcus did the majority of the writing for sign no more and babel, letting the other guys have a crack at it is totally fair, and if it keeps them happy, we will have more Mumford and Sons to come :) so just sit back and enjoy the change of pace.

It's so beautiful to see the streets light up. The purest sense and stimulus of being with someone you love the most, riding with her in the endless streets, soft wintery breezes tingling your skin, and the only sound you hear being of the cycle you are riding on with her, and the breeze swirling in your ears, and the consciousness of her, the most beautiful girl, try imagining her right now, sitting right behind you. Feel the beauty in those words. I can't make you imagine what I dreamed of, but I know, that whatever you imagine, you will cherish it the most.

I lived in London for almost two years. I got into photography whilst I was there. London is different in the nighttime; it manages to be both familiar and strange at the same time. I remember doing this solo photowalk (mostly long exposures) after midnight. I walked from Leadenhall Market, down to Tower Bridge, and then all the way towards Westminster Bridge. This video captures how I feel about London perfectly. Song is amazing, of course. Every time I miss London (which is everyday), I watch this video and it feels like I am doing a photowalk again. Can't wait to be back there this year! :)

"I don't even know if I believe, I don't even know if I believe, I don't even know if I believe......just open up my eyes.....tell me I'm alive....this is never gonna go our way." "Say something say something something like you love me......." oh and btw, it's not the girl in the avatar writing this, it's her BF. I agree completely. I feel like one album more of the same sound--and it was a great sound--would have been too much, too soon and would have started to become repetitive (and some casual listeners thought it was already). They can always come back to the sound and I think they will eventually. But the first album established their sound and the second polished it to a fine sheen. Now it is time for them establish a new sound, and they are. Which shows they have integrity and know when it is time to change.

This song reminded me of a bad relationship I was in at the time. The lyrics spoke to me, always second guessing what the other person was thinking, like “this is never going to go our way, if I’m gonna have to guess what’s on your mind…”. It was emotionally draining but I found solace in this album, this song in particular. So many lines where thing I wanted to say. It takes me straight back to that time. Their songs and lyrics are so powerful, can’t wait to see what’s next for the bad.

The Wolf... sounds just like Kings of Leon, The Killers, Early Strokes, and the whole lot of American Alt that sounds like them ranging from The Von Bondies, The Fratellis, Vines, Hives, early Black Keys, 1990s early 2000s Foo Fighters, and also New Basement Tapes, a side project of Marcus'. He basically borrowed a lot of Elvis Costello's and other members of that band and put it toward Mumford and Sons. Marcus even said the work he did with them heavily went toward this Mumford project (which is like borrowing so literally nothing original). They sound like every other brit pop soft rock band from the past 10 years, identical. And the sad thing is, they aren't as good as Foo or any of the aforementioned bands at electric. Meanwhile, they used to have an original sound.

So what's the problem with this song? I don't understand why people are hating on it? I find it odd that people dislike it when a band changes their "Musical Standards." Musical groups are a dime a dozen and they all are always evolving (Some might just do it at a slower pace, like Taylor Swift. And some change at a more "drastic" pace, like Imagine Dragons.)

sweatyfish2007 thanks i will enjoy what i like while you enjoy what you like. I like this song (It's not my favorite, but it's enjoyable) but you don't have to enjoy it. But please don't confuse opinion and fact.

sweatyfish2007 no, it is not fact, it cant be a fact. No matter how many people may dislike this song, there will still be some that do like it. everyone has a right to their own opinions. But for it to be fact that this song sucks it would have to have every human being (Including Mumford and Sons) to dislike it. You can however say that it is fact that You personally think this song sucks. And judging by your name, I'm guessing you are around the age of 8 (Sorry if I'm wrong) but I will not continue this discussion, unless it absolutely needs to be discussed further.

Anna Kristmundsdóttir does it really matter if they change their style of music to be somewhat like others? is this song still not good because of that? I understand people being upset or disappointed with the band's change of style and they have every right to not like it or the song, but that still does not make it a fact that this song is good or bad. it just means people have different opinions about a song and/or the band. Example: I used to like some of Taylor Swifts songs (The older ones) but i don't like her music much at all now, in fact i find it annoying. But that does not make it a fact that she is bad or her music is. Do you see my point? I'm not hating on the people with the opinion of this song being bad, I just want them to understand that while yes the content creators had a standard, they changed it to their liking, and they have the right to do that.

it's easier to get around on the underground (Tube) anyway. Taxis, lorries and out of towners drive. Locals cycle, walk, motorcycle or take the tube.

And here we sit, seeing one of the most daring and bold bands of the current generation turn into some generic Coldplay.

I highly doubt every song will be like this one, personally I liked this single. But I think I'll like the album as a whole even more, like they said in the interview there is going to be variety in this album

you're kidding right? coldplay's albums such as parachutes, rush of blood to the head, viva la vida, and mylo xyloto aren't generic at all. maybe the songs that get over played on the radio but you're overlooking an entire bands discography and library and labeling them as generic from most likely their "popular" songs you've heard. oh and live shows are FAR from generic. but yeah keep telling yourself that because you don't like their sound

This is not a concept of "selling out" this is a band "trying new things, going down new paths" I don't think I or them could deal with another folk, acoustic album I think this is a breath of fresh air and will separate the real fans from the the "wannabe folk fans" who want another I Will Wait song
