Munchies: Best Pizza

In this episode of Munchies, we follow delivery man Bill Meier and Best Pizza's owner, Frank Pinello, as they eat some of Brooklyn's, well, best pizza. Frank also gives us a little history lesson in Brooklyn pizzerias and explains how back in the day, using top-shelf ingredients was the norm, but over the years, frugal-minded pizzaiolos started skimping on the good stuff. Frank does things the old way, and that's why his slices are the shit.

It's not true, in the south of Italy ( Calabria, Sicilia, Puglia, Campania etc...) it's a tradition: the family sit down everyday and eat together. It's not just a symbol or something. In the holydays or in the weekends, the WHOLE famaly eat together. It's not only a tradition, it's a style of life, the daily life.

@@pleaseguy1806 I can't speak for Italy, but in Spain (similar culture to Italy) the tradition of sitting down and eating a crap ton of food together and having a good time is very, very deeply rooted. It's not the same in the US. Yeah we have Thanksgiving and stuff... but something about it is just... different. At least in my family it's like, "well we have to do this, let's make it as painless as possible", lol. In Spain these occasions are truly savored, and in Italy clearly the same. They love getting together with their family and being loud and boisterous. And epic food is what really drives the whole thing home. Yeah everybody loves food but maybe it's the idea of so much bonding and good times around that tradition. IDK. It's similar, no doubt, but it just seems to be extra special in these parts (southern Europe). As for why Italians don't brag about it: it's because they don't have anything to compare to it. For them it's just the way things are. But they most certainly enjoy it to the fullest. That's my impression at least. Italian-Americans have a very clear point of comparison which is the traditional American culture they are surrounded by.

I now realize the significance of Frank wearing the Giacomo's shirt. I believe it was deliberate because he wants to give a shout out to his mentors. This made me cry because I had a grandma that cooked literally the best food in the world and you could smell the food from out side her house not only would she cook food that's was enough to feed 4 people at the the time but she would give us take away sweets and food that would last all four of my family a day and half and she was so kind as well sadly she past away earlier this year god bless her soul only if I could eat one more meal cooked by her I could live peacefully for the rest of my life

aww now i am hungry. Best pizza i have ever eaten was in italy 10 minutes away from lake garda. It was wonderful, we were able to walk there in the afternoon and fireflys were flying around in the dark and the pizza tasted awesome. Simply amazing, it was hidden place and just unique.
