It's not true, in the south of Italy ( Calabria, Sicilia, Puglia, Campania etc...) it's a tradition: the family sit down everyday and eat together. It's not just a symbol or something. @@pleaseguy1806 I can't speak for Italy, but in Spain (similar culture to Italy) the tradition of sitting down and eating a crap ton of food together and having a good time is very, very deeply rooted. It's not the same in the US. Yeah we have Thanksgiving and stuff... but something about it is just... different. At least in my family it's like, "well we have to do this, let's make it as painless as possible", lol. In Spain these occasions are truly savored, and in Italy clearly the same. They love getting together with their family and being loud and boisterous. And epic food is what really drives the whole thing home. Yeah everybody loves food but maybe it's the idea of so much bonding and good times around that tradition. IDK. It's similar, no doubt, but it just seems to be extra special in these parts (southern Europe). As for why Italians don't brag about it: it's because they don't have anything to compare to it. For them it's just the way things are. But they most certainly enjoy it to the fullest. That's my impression at least. Italian-Americans have a very clear point of comparison which is the traditional American culture they are surrounded by.

This is my favorite episode of Munchies. It made me fall in love with Frank as a host and restaurant owner. I use to have a tradition of watching this video every time I ate pizza at home. I wish they would make more episodes of the pizza show, was really good. RIP Bill, you still live on as a memory in so many people including me all the way in Finland. For those who have been blessed with a grandma know that grandma's will cook like it's Thanksgiving especially on Sundays. They will never sit until everyone is eating and has their dish piled. Even then, they will ask if you want more. I'm still blessed to have my grandma to enjoy our Sunday dinners. I now realize the significance of Frank wearing the Giacomo's shirt. I believe it was deliberate because he wants to give a shout out to his mentors. Giacomo's was the first pizza place that he worked at and where he learned the trade. I like to think he is saying thank you in a subtle way to Giacomo.
