There’s a huge stigma that hamsters are mean, but the second you actually care for them correctly they’re so sweet and friendly. Just like every other animal.
@dima54675 жыл бұрын
When choosing a hamster to take home I was told that the syrian I had my eye on was mean. I didn't believe it for a second. I took her home anyway and after she was adjusted to her new home she turned out to be the gentlest and sweetest girl you could have. She just needed a proper home and proper care and attention. She is very hyper and it makes it a pain sometimes, but I still take her out for playtime almost every day.

I went to a “vet camp” and they had a different animal come in each day. The first day it was a hamster and I watched one of these videos that morning. And the person that brought in the hamster had a cage like this.(I don’t know if it was a different cage or just didn’t have the decoration) I assumed it was a travel cage so I thought it was a good size for a travel cage and raised my hand and asked “how big is the hamster’s real cage because I assume that is the hamsters travel cage?” And the lady said “oh no this is his real cage that he lives in.” And my jaw dropped. I was legitimately sad. I told my friends that I thought it was really small. And they all said something like “well the hamster is small so the cage is small.” ( it was a dwarf hamster) they also dropped the hamster and the owner said. “Oh it’s fine he had been through a lot he is a class pet for kindergartens and one threw the hamster ball with him in it. He’s fine!” I am really sad and I fell bad for that hamster and other hamsters who live in the same conditions. I hope no body treats their hamsters like this!

I went into Petco after adopting my adorable Dwarf Hamster (which I was told was a boy but is a girl) and since I didn’t know better at the time. I bought a 6” silent spinner. After seeing her run in it, I saw she had a arched looking back. And I went back and asked a MANAGER and they reassured that it was correct. Having doubts, I went to another petco in another CITY. And the person pointed out that there was a bigger spinner. I returned the other one quickly afterwards and I’m happy to see her run on her new wheel. Don’t trust the first petco person.

I witnessed the most absurd situation in petco last week. A family came in buying a hamster (I was there to get more bedding) they had no clue what they were doing. They didn’t ask me and I felt it wasn’t my place to but in their business but long story short they ended up going and getting a worker to ask what to get and the employee literally told them they did not need a wheel or bedding as it was not necessary. They checked out in front of me and had only purchased a small animal “cage” and food. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t say anything and I’m still regretting it. I just thought it may be out of line because I was “ease dropping” on their convos 😩 why do these stories not properly educate the people they hire! I don’t get it!
@xgalaxyxkittenx60435 жыл бұрын
Jade Hansen when I worked at a pet store I know I interrupted people a lot! I was the most educated person working there. I would just walk over and go hey! What are you looking at today/need any help choosing something for your pet? And if you're a customer just walk over and talk about your pet and what you use and explain what's best. Chances are, you won't see those people again and it doesn't matter how you approach it as long as you educate them. I have a friend who will literally loudly point out dead animals in pet stores who are uneducated and not caring and interrupt and talk to customers without caring. I would spend 20 minutes to an hour talking to customers to help them find the right things for their pets and I always felt so good when I switched them to better and healthier things- especially the small animals.
@catgirlcraft17744 жыл бұрын
They said what!?!? That’s like saying it’s not necessary to not lock a pet in a small room with no toys love or affection. Sure, it’s not as necessary as food, but it’s a simple thing to do and will seriously help out a pet in the long run. If I heard that I would probably punch the employee in the face.

Well stress can really mess with animals and people. I know when I have a bad day at work or I’m stressed I’m quicker to lash out at people, at least I don’t bite. 😂 So it only makes sense a poor high prey animal would be hella more aggressive and panicky. Usually they don't pry into it. But one of them asked me once and I told them I did a review on it. She asked why, told her it's a cage that shouldn't be made as it's too small. She told me "oh I didn't see anything wrong with it and they're new". So just goes to show you not everyone understands or wants to know small animal care while working in a pet store. Mostly I see people who gravitate towards cats/dogs and don't look into learning about the animals they sell. So she seemed like she was one of those people who didn't know much and didn't think anything was wrong with what cages they sold. Oh and the cage that was broken I had to go ahead and let them know that one time that it was broken. They didn't ask tho. I just ended up saying don't go reselling it.

Omg I love your videos. I came upon this video while doing some research about cages you should get. Now I can’t stop watching your videos. It’s helped me so much and soon I’ll be able to get a hamster of my own with the information you and other KZbinrs have provided.

I was gifted a albino robo dwarf hamster from someone who couldnt care for her anymore, and I started watching more hamster stuff to educate myself. You helped me see the awful princess cage isnt what she needs, and now she has the biggest cage. She doesnt nip my fingers anymore, she runs around and digs and is just so happy exploring and it really warms my heart. She'll just watch me from the inside like shes thanking me for saving her from that nightmare cage. 🥺

This sucks too, because the whole idea of having different themes could’ve been so cute, but they ruined it with terrible cages. They could’ve sold a basic wire cage (like the prevue) in a few colors, that had spots for some larger tubes to connect in. Then sell some cute towers, hideout boxes, chambers, etc., and increase the amount of cage toys/hideouts that fit different themes. It’d be a win-win for the company and their customers. PetSmart would win by making more money off of kids wanting “cool” things, since parents would need to buy more than one simple cage to actually fit the theme. Hamster owners would win, as they’d get an appropriate, cool, and actually unique (not knock-off crittertrails) setups, that could be customized even more so than these. It’s so frustrating as a pet store worker, because people always think your up selling when you try and suggest the larger basic wire cages, or larger aquariums, and that’s only if you’re lucky enough the carry them in your store. And on top of that, most people want to be able to get everything at one place and don’t want to build an entire setup, so diy cages aren’t easy to get people on board with either.

When I was a little kid, I got a really tall, small floor spaced house cage, with no hides and an inch of bedding. But, my mum realised that Sally was upset and biting the bars- we got a big acrylic cage with lots of room after a little more research than what the pet shop man told us. Sally was a lot happier after that- thanks for educating people like me and my mum when there wasn’t a lot of people talking about cages back in 2007

If I end up working at a pet store where stuff like this is sold, I'm definitely going to give them proper animal care information... especially because once I heard an employee tell a group of teens that a 40 gallon tank is fine for an adult veiled chameleon.

We originally had the Tiny Tales Clubhouse cage as the Petstore recommended it to us. I found your videos a few months later and got the Purview 528 cage. Our Syrian hamster has been loving it much more. In the previous cage, she would get stuck in the tunnels and urinate in them, or shove all of her bedding out of the clubhouse portion and get stuck up there. The lid to that also broke, so we had to tape it so she wouldn't escape. She has been loving having so much more room to bed and burrow, and having a proper sized wheel. She is a year old now and I have created a whole vertical playground for her as well because she loves climbing. She doesn't particularly like her hides, but she has a massive system of tunnels and burrows so I think she is doing well. She is mostly climbing the top of the cage or playing in her hanging basket. Her previous cage had room for none of these things, and I learned a lot from watching your videos. So thanks!
