With it being weird that people eat Pokesweets, don't forget that people eat Pokemon too: Farfetch'd was nearly hunted to extinction for food (per episode 49 of the anime), the anime has shown Magicarp cut up and grilled, people eating Slowpoke tails is a plot point in Gold and Silver, a library in Sinnoh talks about eating fish Pokemon then throwingtheir bones back to the sea to be reborn, Diamond's Pokedex indicates the Cherubi is tasty, and Black and White 2 make the same comment about Basculin. So, this isn't really out of place.
