Thief with scrolls is so insanely strong like even if a creature has a +5 wisdom save, that creature has a 57% chance to fail due to double cast. It's also great at burning legendary resistances. That's something the new monk lost.

Not to mention if you pick up Arcana from species/background and take Expertise in it, it will be impossible for them to fail the check by the time they can use scrolls due to Reliable Talent.

One level dip at 8 and you can reliably cast at a higher level than Arcane Trickster
@ElocNodnarb3 күн бұрын
The reason for the slight of hand vs thieves tools stuff is because now if you have a tool proficiency AND proficiency in a skill you’d use the tool with, instead of double dipping proficiency, you get advantage on the check. So if you have Thieves’ Tools proficiency AND Sleight of Hand proficiency, you get advantage on the check.

Equipment packs in 2014 gave you a GP discount on their items, but no longer in 2024. That's why you see a few adjustments to the contents like adding 5 candles--they're trying to come to exact (whole) GP amounts.

A lot of mundane adventuring gear has me really excited to play a thief rogue with a sort of batman-style utility belt where you pull out all sorts of knick-knacks in combat (because the draw action is also streamlined) so I can see a thief+monk party combo excelling in skirmishing incredibly well. Plus, with the new scribing rules requiring proficiency with arcana and having the spell prepared (RAW high elf gets access to a prepared level 2 spell, but it doesn't say your cantrip is prepared, just known (both were allowed in xgte but aren't here) so a stickler DM might rule that you can't scribe the cantrip you got via elf, but magic initiate works) you can totally make a completely self sufficient thief even taking damage into account given decent downtime and have them be very effective, without the DM awarding them any magic items at all.

The sand in the … was it the diplomats pack I think? Is that when you write by dipping a quill into an ink jar, there’s usually too much ink on many of the letters. You soak the ink up with sand by pouring it gently all over the page and then after a moment you pour the sand off and then you roll or fold the page before sealing it. If you don’t use the sand the ink is likely to soak into the paper and spread where the writing can easily become unintelligible.

The use of a tool kit is now different in 2024. All of them have a skill they are tied to. In the case of Thief's tools it's slight of hands. When a character uses the Thief's tools (to open a lock or whatever) now they roll dexterity (slight of hands) and if they have proficiency in it they att it. If they are also proficient in Thief's tools they get advantage of the roll. That's also why experience as a feature no longer gives the option to choose a tool. I think it's better this way. More use for skills and getting advantage for also investing in the tool proficiency is cool.

I think the reason the rope and bedroll text was removed from the backpack item text is that its not necessary. Neither the 2014 nor 2024 rules give comprehensive rules for how equipment can be stowed. That line was essentially flavor text and its exclusion doesn’t change any mechanics.
@GameEasyRollGoodКүн бұрын
I mean yeah it's definitely unnecessary, I was mostly joking. But if there's one thing rules lawyers love (and I include myself in this group) it's being pedantic, lol.

I think the Sleight of Hand / Thieves tools connection with manacles is unique to manacles. It's a separate mechanic where it's not a thieves tool check, it's a sleight of hand (DC 20), but thieves tools lower the DC by 5 (DC 15). With the change to expertise, you can only have expertise in Skills, not Tools. So, this allows a potential for expertise benefits.
@GameEasyRollGood8 сағат бұрын
Apparently there's a part I missed in the tools where if you have proficiency in both the tools and the requested ability check, you have advantage on the roll.

@GameEasyRollGood That's interesting then possibly an error with manacles. It's wild that the DC would lower by 5 and you get advantage.

3:10 Not released in 2024 yet, but warforged is both construct, and not immune to poison(but they do already have permanent advantage).
@GameEasyRollGood5 күн бұрын
Warforged are actually considered humanoid, but have many similar features to constructs. This is called out under the "Living Steel and Stone" text on their species page. The Warforged Soldier monster stat block also has the "humanoid" creature type. Whereas the Autognome is specifically called out as a Construct at the top of its species traits. That being said, even though Warforged aren't in the 2024 PHB - and we wouldn't expect them to be because they're technically setting-specific to Eberron - they're still legal if your DM allows, as are any other species not published in the new PHB. You just might need to make minor tweaks to modernize them in the 2024 ruleset.

@@GameEasyRollGood i could have sworn there was wording that put it in some weird in-between space, where they counted as a construct, as well. Maybe its from an older revision of the book or something. Cant seem to find corroborating evidence on beyond so 🤷♂️ eff me, i guess 🤣 You were correct about autognome being a construct, however, and they do come with only resistance to poison, so there ya go, it was done for them(as well as any homebrew construct species)
@WanderingSkullkid5 күн бұрын
27:37 a homebrew I will be using is that a character needs to be conscious in order to apply it as a bonus action. Just cuz realism 30:29 this is.. REALLY interesting.. without knowing about other rules that may interact, I would interpret this description to mean that anyone can now use spell scrolls, but it requires “proficiency”(not the mechanic) in a spell in order for it to be an effective thing to use in combat/emergency. I like this because I dont believe spell scrolls should be for magic users only, but it gives a really good balance that makes natural casters have more readied use of it. Much more ease of use added here, and I’m mostly all for it BUT GOD FORBID PEOPLE LEARN WHAT A PITON IS 🤦♂️ okay they annoyed me with that. Its a good way to learn a new word, but instead they replace it with “metal spikes” which is literally WHAT A PITON IS grrrrrrr >~> ok, im done
@GameEasyRollGood5 күн бұрын
If a DM was being really pedantic, subclasses like Arcane Trickster and Eldritch Knight don't have their own spell list and instead use the Wizard's. But I think this is an example where technically correct isn't the best kind of correct. The 2024 Thief Rogue's "Use Magic Device" feature suggests that casting spells of 2nd Level or higher from a spell scroll will require a Arcana check of DC 10 + Spell Level, and the scroll is lost on a failure. I would expect to see more guidance on this in the 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide.
@WanderingSkullkid5 күн бұрын
@@GameEasyRollGood im honestly fine with that. Advanced magic being more advanced, and harder to pull off without the proficiency that comes from being studied makes perfect sense, and i’m glad they added a specific mechanic so i dont have to lol

Considering Rogues can no longer gain proficiency in Thieves Tools, I think that proficiency in tools are no longer going to be a thing It also tracks why the disguise kit was taken out. As you can now use it without being proficient.
@GameEasyRollGood3 күн бұрын
Rogues still come with Thieves' Tool proficiency in 2024, and there's an entire Origin Feat around getting proficiencies in tools. I'll be covering the Origin Feats this Wednesday. Every tool in 2024 comes with an ability score it's associated with, and it's Dexterity for Thieves' Tools. So just like in 2014 it would be a Dexterity check that adds your proficiency with the tools. But for some reason the Manacles specifically give you a way to circumvent proficiency with those tools by just having proficiency in Sleight of Hand instead.
