That battery cart wheels are SWEET!!!

I looked at them after your comment. That cart is as innovative as the battery it’s holding. Only at Munro and Associates will the equipment to tear down cars be as innovative as the cars. 😂😂😂😂. That’s shows they how dedicated they are to innovation and right part mentality.

Something tells me this will be what the vehicle owners will hate as these vehicles get older.

Only if they expect 0% degradation or they get into an accident that damages the battery and it's considered a total loss by the insurance.

Ive wondered about battery cooling, as the coolant goes through the pack it gets hotter with the cells on the end getting increasingly hotter water, Would there be a significant difference in cell degradation from the coolant temperature gradient, or does the cooling just have to be overspecced so that it can simply keep the end cells at a reasonable temperature even after passing through the other cells.

Its tradeoff for sure. that tricky bit indeed.

It will be a countercurrent system so temperature won’t vary greatly.

How do you friction stir weld you large plates? I thought that needed the 2 parts to be spun and pressed together?
@gelu88
@gelu88 11 ай бұрын
There's a small drill that pushes and spins through both plates. The plates don't spin

How difficult is it to open the pack for repair? Will the housing be reusable?

Nice! Any idea if the IMA platform that will replace the E-GMP will use a similar cooling plate?

Woah, what are those triple wheels on the cart you wheeled it around on?

Why does it have 3 wheels orbiting eachother
@Marc83Aus
@Marc83Aus 9 ай бұрын
@@hybrid.roodragon1226 with a single castor the trolly has to wobble slightly as you move it to align the wheel with the direction of travel, whereas the triple castor will simply rotate around its own bearing which should keep the body of the trolly very stable and allow it to effortlessly be moved without much jerking.

A cooling plate now that's an interesting idea that I've never heard of getting rid of the heat via the outside because air goes around the battery.

Since there is only one channel, won't components near the end of the run get much less cooling than ones at the beginning?
@ysakoko
@ysakoko 11 ай бұрын
@@jackt6595 technically yes, but you can mitigate the problem with coolant properties, materials used, and flow rate.and the serpentine path also works to get the colder inlet coolant over all the batteries.

@@jackt6595Yes and the delta is a problem when charging: lowest temperature responsible for charge rate step up, highest temperature responsible for throttling.

A similar part is inside the Kona and original Niro EVs and they've used a specialised coolant since mid-2019. This change allows conventional coolant to be used as there is almost no risk of a leak reaching the cell connections.

I realize that much of Sandy's fame (among us engineers) is from his work revealing the true cost of fasteners, but seeing that giant welded single piece still gets me worried about repairs. Would it total the car if that plate was stabbed by road debris? Bent by taking a speed bump too fast?
