It's ridiculous, but I actually feel emotional when Scrooge is given the scarf. It means so much to him, just that one little gift. Michael Caine is brilliant in this.

Same. Every single time I watch it that part always makes me tear up without fail. I think it's especially touching that after a lifetime of being alone and cold to everyone, when he finally does open up and expresses kindness for the first time, he receives some right back. I don't think he was expecting it and is certainly unused to people showing him gratitude so he's so surprised and moved by what's probably the first genuine gift he's Eve received. Man this movie makes me emotional. It's so great

When I was seven years old, my mum snuck into my room in the middle of the night and said: "Kate, you gotta see this." We snuck downstairs and on TV were the muppets telling this amazing story about a grouchy old man being visited by ghosts on Christmas Eve. I remember it as not only being one of the funniest things I'd ever seen, but such a wonderful story that I couldn't help but beg for more when it was over. That's when my mum told me about the book and read me the first part under the Christmas tree until I was tired. It's a Christmas memory I'll never forget.

In my opinion Michael Caine was the third best Ebenezer Scrooge. The best Scrooge was Alistar Sim as he was simply born to play the role as he had the face for the miser. He also nailed it as Scrooge with the voice and was really convincing as the old skinflint. The second best actor was George C Scott even though he was American. And the fourth best Scrooge was Albert Finney.

I remember from the Commentary on the Dvd that kids that watched it when this first came out where wondering why the clerks got coal, "But they weren't bad, why did they get coal!"

It's because of this film and especially this song along with feels like Christmas that I am so charitable and it is actually said of me I keep Christmas TOO well and have TOO much joy and love for humanity in my heart but I don't care :D Thank you Jim Henson and Merry Christmas

There's no such thing. Most of us can financially recover from the expenses of Christmas with a little extra work and sacrifice. If your generosity is to the benefit of those that have a harder time doing that or that are young and should be taught the power of generosity and kindness, you'd be hard pressed to give too much.

I went to see this yesterday, just by chance it was playing and because i hadnt seen it in years I decided to give it a whack........wow what a great little movie. I'll be honest this scene moved me to tears, and thats not something that happens very often.

This always was and will forever be my favorite Christmas Carol adaptation. There are some other good ones, and they might be more faithful to the source material, but nothing can match the charm of the Muppets version.

awww, you missed the best part - the lead up to him getting a gift. I love that look of surprise and amazement of receiving a gift from a stranger, such a beautiful act of kindness.
