Reminds me of a D-guard Bowie. As a Bowie knife fan I wholeheartedly approve.

They are more bowie shaped, I would agree with the previous comment, and that gives them a variety of different applications from the everything wing chun swords. Great set and information. Thanks for doing the homework on these Michael.

the sheath is designed to go in your boot. Because that wear you'd traditionally carry Batt charm do (8 cutting sword, butterfly sword). Especially if you were in the Chinese opera on one of the junks (Boats) because you'd want them close and not necessarily on display . A lot of Chinese opera singers learnt Wing Chun for self defence. It's the reason why there are so many lineage of wing Chun and why it still survives today.

The pole was also well-designed for fighting on the boats. As for these, I've tended to see them shoved in sashes under robes, but some of these dual sheaths are way too thick

AAARRGGGHH MICHAEL !!! You got those sooner than I thought . I'm jealous . About your possible modifications , how about replacing the cotton wrapped handles with deer antlers . It may make it more pleasant to the eyes .

Love these, they look much more historically accurate. Which steel do u prefer after having the two pairs the D2 or the folded 1060/1090 carbon steel with regards to maintenance and overall aesthetics?
@michaelrizzo55232 жыл бұрын
Aesthetics and feel, I like the Murasame better, though I suspect the EWC are tougher. Working on a side-by-side comparison.

Very cool! Yea, I know it’s a bad idea, but I practice with live blades too, I’ve been lucky so far, lol.

Came for the blades, Love the history, thanks for the showcase of these historic short swords, they are in my view old war Bowies in their design, glade to hear you got such good personalized service, what kind of edge, secondary bevel? yes he's right not katana edge sharp but still pretty sharp for a broad knife blade, well done Michael
@michaelrizzo55232 жыл бұрын
Yes, very similar to a D-guard Bowie! The secondary bevel is very keen, given how thin (1/32") that hollow grind gets right before it, about 25 degrees total.

Those stu are well made , especially for the price and I like the Clip Point Top for thrusting and that will still slash good also. Toe to other ones look better and with them being full tang that a big plus ,but those are still a good deal and it good that you have them sharp . Was sharpening any extra cost at all ? You move them very good Mile 🙂⚔️

Thanks! In the side-by-side, the Murasame did better than the EWC in a lot of tests.

If someone is new to weapon training & especially if they are new to the weapon they intend to train w/, then yeah they should be dull. However if your experienced & running solo drills then its fine to use sharps.

Definitely recommended. I started with an aluminum set.

Dude , you are twirling the 12 inch blades like they Kali sticks. There is no flipping or twirling in the Wing Chun form I was taught. They are sabres or long swords. Different ball game. Weapons are life and death, not trading punches. What Wing Chun “Master” teaches these moves
