The timing shocks me. Buster breaks his silence and does an interview talking about how the tables were tilted from the beginning then Alex defense attorneys want a retrial. Kind of sketchy I think.

Good comments!! . I immediately thought that this was just another plan played out by the defense in the masterfull chess game that started way before the trial ended. I believe they have a list of ideas to counter everything. Put doubt out there, script a narrative so absurd that the cout has no choice but to give him a new trial. Sickening!!

@@lisafox5801 Agree the defense has tried and tried to get the verdict overturned. They are sore looser. Since they are AM's friends and part of the good ol boy system I don't really trust them. Was the clerk paid off or were several jurors been paid off as well? We have to look at the allegations and see if there is any substantial proof that validates it.

I was a juror on a triple murder trial in 2004. Sequestered for 7 days. The Clerk of Court never came to the juror room. There were several deputies that stayed with us the entire time. Even at the hotel, they were there all night. Ate meals with us, rode the bus to and from Court house with us. We were allowed 1 call at night and the deputy stood in the room while we talked. This was in Georgia. Maybe it's different here.

Miss Becky was so below the belt in the things she wrote in her book. As a woman I took issue with her talking about a juror having her monthly cycle and how she and her assistant saved the day because they had feminine products on hand. How embarrassing for a juror to read this and see them play like they were saving the day by providing what any public restroom normally has on hand. Miss Becky came off like a ditzy, self absorbed, small town woman who has a very high opinion of herself. "Big Fish in a Small Pond Syndrome".

The jurors whose sworn statements led to this accusation knew the court clerk was not in a position to influence their opinions in the case. Why didn't they come forward at that time? They were instructed to tell the court about any discussion regarding the case, prior to deliberations. Yet they kept it quiet until now, after the book came out? What makes them so believable? Perhaps they are disgruntled by what they read in the book. Jurors are capable of telling lies,, lest we forget. Just saying.

I think they looked to Becky for guidance. Not for her opinion on the trial but for what’s appropriate for all parties. From the few exerts I’ve heard from her book, Becky seems to have a lack of insight of how her words come across. Becks is an elected official apparently. From her own words she paints herself as an judgmental busybody. That played favorites. Lackluster.

@@Felhoney1 Agree, she could be more refined in terms of basic "elected servant" etiquette, but there is no proof whatsoever that she tried to influence the jury. Just going with common sense, I'm thinking she prob. should not have written that book, BUT, more importantly, are the sworn statements of the jurors the defense team made huge efforts to track down, even true? Like I said, I smell a rat in the defense camp.

1. She did not have a "book deal." Self-published, sel-funded. However... 2. She admitted cheerily in an interview she had planned to write a book. 3. Jurors did not like what she wrote, so they were motivated by the book however... 4. She probably did not like Alex and 3 jurors claim she influenced them 5. If this is true, every jury she has ever worked with can be called into question! Think of the new trials that are possible... 6. IF she did this, remember: she was present with the judge during all discussions out of jury's presence but then she could have relayed anything to them.

The Clerk of Court (or Deputy COC) position is so much more than the “hostess” you paint. The office is to be fair and impartial in all states. They handle court filings, they can be Courtroom Clerks, who create Minute Entries of every hearing and manage exhibits…just to name a few things. COC’s are NOT travel agents. I will be so disappointed if this COC acted in any way, inappropriate for her position. Being a COC (or deputy) is not an easy job but they should always be fair, impartial, and full of integrity. I have been a deputy Clerk of Court in several states (in the west), and it is a very demanding job requiring great analytical skills, communication skills, legal writing skills, and poise. I have worked for great elected COC’s and some that were NOT good. We shall see what happens! I really appreciate your perspectives.

Becky Hill contradicted herself in her book. In one chapter she described her position as being a neutral party like "Switzerland" and in another chapter when she was referring to the jurors trip to Moselle, she stated that "WE" speaking of herself and the jurors "Had our minds made up that day that he was guilty". In essence, she admitted that they had a Guilty verdict even before the trial had closing arguments. I would imagine the Prosecution, the Judge and all of Colleton County are humiliated and angry that she trashed all their efforts to have a successful trial. She became arrogant, self-serving and only thought about herself and how she could benefit and prosper from her position at the courthouse. At the end of the day, I believe Murdough was guilty and with that being said...Guilty or not he deserved a Fair and Just trial. His rights were violated and Becky Hill should be charged for Tampering with a Jury, Fabricating the FB post to have the Juror removed from the case and threatening not to give the Jury a break until the verdict was reached.

If the allegations are true this means each juror and the bailiff ignored their responsibilities to help ensure the accused received a fair trial. Bring in all the jurors, get sworn statements from them, ask them if anything they heard from the court reporter affected their decision. It’s very likely they just ignored her comments.

Also i would think there would be a video photographer recording the trip to Moselle property for the courts record. I would also want these jurors under oath on the wittness stand. That being said, if Becky Hill did do any of these things it egregious and a new trial should happen. Lets wait to see where this goes as this is all just allegations at this time.

WHY would the defense hunt down these jurors and knock on their door after a case? That seems like it is stepping over the line. It's not farfetched! AM could very well just become incredibly creative from within his new concrete office to find new ways to tamper with the jury. This isn't his first rodeo. Also, please consider all the money he stole from innocent clients never that was never tracked down. In my opinion its plausible offshore accounts were cashed in to pay the three jurors to vouch for this accusation. It's a crazy theory but not one that's farfetched he wouldn't try. This has nothing to do with whether AM is guilty or innocent. What matters is the integrity of the process. We enforce rules protecting due process rights because constitutionally protected and sound process is fundamental. Just as we suppress evidence of a crime when an officer has violated the 4th amendment in an unlawful search and seizure, we do so because otherwise, police officers will continue to break the rules, take shortcuts when they believe someone has committed a crime. If a Clerk has tampered with a jury and nothing is done, that behavior is likely to continue and possibly worsen if Clerks and other court personnel feel empowered by a court finding such behavior “harmless.” Protecting the integrity of the process is more important than whether any one individual is advantaged when evidence is suppressed or when a new trial is ordered. I am very uneasy about the notion of a Court Clerk (a public official, elected by the voters of that locality) gathering material for her “tell all” book while overseeing a high profile case like this. She has already admitted that she planned to write the book BEFORE the trial began (she gave an interview before the defense filed the motion). We also now have as evidence, the book itself. While I have not read it, apparently she wrote extensively about her observations and interactions with jurors. If the jurors testify and confirm the veracity of the allegations contained in the motion, it is hard to imagine how a judge could justify not ordering a new trial. Assuming the allegations are proven, a judge could find that the error/violation was nonetheless “harmless” and that the jury would have convicted him anyway. That is hard to believe given the nature of the circumstantial evidence in this case and what happened with the “egg lady” juror who was removed. This juror was inclined to exonerate AM. As discussed here, first, the Court of Appeals (which now has jurisdiction over the case, since it is on appeal) must rule on whether to remand the case back to the trial court for the purpose of holding an evidentiary hearing on the motion. A different trial judge would surely be assigned to hear this and depending upon how that judge would rule, the Court of Appeals would have to enter an order remanding the case for a new trial. On these panel discussions, just a suggestion- if you are reporting on something like an excerpt from a book or an affidavit, you risk losing your audience if you do too much “thinking out loud.” Just have the excerpts ready and read them first. I got a bit frustrated trying to follow when everyone started rambling and musing before the passage/s were even read. Just read the passage first. Then if you want to reflect and discuss, it will make more sense to the audience.

@@SilentWatcher-cl5sn, I don't think Alex Murdaugh ("AM") should get a new trial; he should be acquitted outright if it turns out ANY lies were used to get "the egg juror" off the panel. First, once a jury is sworn, jeopardy attaches. And a criminal defendant is entitled to the jury that was chosen and sworn. The exceptions are mistrial (hung jury, act of God, etc.) and certain types of reversals on appeal. The criminal defendant can then be retried without offending Double Jeopardy. But, when the State itself, or someone acting on behalf of the State (as Becky Hill was), causes the originally-chosen-and-sworn panel to NOT deliberate together, Double Jeopardy throws away the conviction FOREVER. Before the haters start at me, I am NOT a lawyer and never met AM or knew who the Murdaughs are before all this started. What I am is a Coptic Orthodox Christian quadrilingual LAWFUL immigrant MD, MPH who, thank God and WITHOUT A LAWYER, defeated an evil plan to frame me for "harassment in the first degree" which could have gotten me 36 years in prison. Yes, not a typo, 36 years. And I did before a jury with none other than Judge Clifton Newman presiding. He would have given me every day of those 36 years along with a stern lecture had MY jury, God forbade, gotten it wrong. What does that have to do with AM being cleared of the murders ONLY? First, BASICALLY the same people who tried to frame me are the ones who prosecuted AM; and they used against me MOST of the tactics they used against AM except for jury tampering. Not that they would not have tried it against me; they only probably thought they did not need it: that I would, God forbade, fall on my face as they called their first witness. Notice how Zelenka started applauding when Alan Wilson thanked Becky Hill? She was their insurance. They had learned from my case that they can't avoid a mistrial if there is even ONE honest juror on the panel. And Becky Hill had the Prosecution's and SLED's backs. Now, they have hers. Why is "the egg juror" ONE honest juror? First because she works in a lab, with monkeys, trying to find cures for cancer and such. There is no room for dishonesty in science. Do I want the guilty to go free? Of course not. AM may be guilty of financial misdeeds but NOT of murders. How do I know that? From the stomach contents of the victims. The coroner-without-a-thermometer lost the temperature approach for us. But the forensic pathologist who did both autopsies MEASURED the stomach contents at 500 mls in each stomach. Friends, that is TOO LITTLE for the death to have occurred so close to the time of the last meal. The death occurred AFTER AM had left Moselle for Almeida. That AM was at the kennels shortly BEFORE 9:00 pm has NO significance even if, out of his lying habit, he lied about it. The deaths OF THE HUMAN BEINGS occurred closer to 10:00 pm than to 9:00 pm, not withstanding the time of death of the cell phone batteries. End of story.

@@tommymyers3183 yes they are evidence! How ever there was a lawyer, either on court TV or one of the podcast channels talking about how this has happened before where people have signed sworn affidavit, thinking that they are helping the people asking the questions only to be interrogated later in a court of law, and for it, to be proven that they lied on their affidavits, because they did not understand the significance of what they were saying…and how serious it is to tell the truth and only the truth!

This is a very good program. I appreciate the clear and detailed information they gathered and how they are presenting the details. I watched the trial and was convinced of Mr Murdaugh’s guilt. But, they helped me see the reason he might get away with his conviction. Making him a very fortunate person. But still it’s 🤮, but a good program.

I feel that Harpo's comments about him being a witness to the jury tampering, means he was present with the jurors and why didn't he expose any wrong doing during the exact tine Harpo witnessed it? He's a liar and unless the jurors say it happened, then I want to hear it from ALL the jurors. No attorney's should be alone with any juror except during the trial, in front of the judge and general public in the court room. Why was Harpo there as he claims he witnessed the tampering?

Fantastic Job. I really enjoyed watching this. Well spoken, balanced. Perfect. My take is, watching the case myself I felt the heart of every person involved had been laid out. But the corrupt intent was to sway the jury. And sentence a man to life in prison. That’s a pretty big deal. The travesty would be if allegations were true and Alex DIDN’T get a new trial. How about we wait for an evidentiary hearing before we speculate too much.

It is very troubling to me that the defense felt the need to seek out jurors by knocking on doors. Very disturbing and questionable in my opinion. What they’re saying doesn’t come across as credible but for someone that just hears things every once in a while may be inclined to believe them. I’ve not read anything in the book that makes me question Ms Becky. There was no “book deal” as the defense stated. It’s self published. She said she respected the Murdaugh family. She’d worked with them for years. I can’t imagine how she is feeling right now. Prayers are going up for her.

There are have been a lot of people in those Murdaugh forums on Facebook claiming to be friends with so-and-so and family of so-and-so.. and just kind of inserting themselves into the middle of all this and feeding off the drama of the trial. I have a feeling someone was impersonating Mr Stone.. just because Becky Hill saw that and reported it doesn't mean that she intentionally misled the court about that because she may have thought it was real. But perhaps they should have done a bit more due diligence and determining whether it was real or not. Further, can we get meta to to pull his history, not just providing it for himself (of which you can delete or even archive your entire account)? Regardless it definitely looks like Alex is going to get a new trial.

I think he paid too much with these two defense attorney any other attorney as well they were out rent completely and I think they’re upset that they had no ground about it. Did he finish team was in barest there they’re open statements with the week in the closing was even worse then you had griffins standing up trying to see if he can get the judge to get a retrial and mumble jumble in words out to meet at told me that he knew he lost a case, he was very boring and dry and defeated and that’s what it is you all are defeated in your upset. He had a fair trial and won’t be sad. I’m quite sure they gave him a better break. I can agree that writing a book so quickly is probably in poor taste but it doesn't mean she is guilty of these accusations. AM could very well just become incredibly creative from within his new concrete office to find new ways to tamper with the jury. This isn't his first rodeo. Also, please consider all the money he stole from innocent clients that was never tracked down. In my opinion its plausible offshore accounts were cashed in to pay the three jurors to vouch for this accusation. It's a crazy theory but not one that's farfetched AM wouldn't try. A smear campaign is not below what AM could try to pull off! Look at all of his other shenanigans! These accusations create doubt on both sides, exactly what AM wants to happen so he can get another trial. It's a hail Mary attempt in my opinion.

Judge Newman chose the foreperson. This was discussed on another podcast that I also watch where an attorney who has practiced before the judge multiple times said it is a process that he always follows. I think the attorney said that the judge always picks the person who sits in the seat that the person he chose is in. I do not remember the attorney at the moment, but I remember that comment because it was so unusual to me regarding how a jury foreperson would be selected.
