Father's Day, 2011. El Rancho, New Mexico.
A frantic 911 call is made to police. Lloyd, Dixie and Steven Ortiz have been found dead in their home. As the years passed, many feared the case would go totally cold.
But, one call would come in to police, that would change everything...

It's ABSULUTLY sickening and not justice at all .I wish I could say this is usual but it's not .I see some get way more for a crime as horrible as this and I see some get even less than 25 years ,it's horrible and Our so called justice system is very very broken .Many evil people had already committed awful crimes and were out of prison earlier than the sentence they had gotten after those crimes and many go on to commit more evil crimes ,just disgusting .

25 years means 8 and a third years for each brutal homicide, and all he'll have to serve is 85% of that time. So the punishment for each horrific homicide was a little more than 7 years. That judge was ridiculous. Had Nicholas killed one person (with a pickaxe for heaven’s sake), he would have served eight years? Horrific pain and suffering this trio endured having been killed by a pickaxe, not to mention over money and a weed plant. My jaw dropped when you mentioned he was offered 100k bond, of which he would obviously only have to come up w/ten percent, but then when you mentioned the verdict, and the judge running the sentences concurrently, I was seething with disappointment and frustration. Such a lovely, hardworking, family-oriented couple and the son they raised to his fullest potential gone over such a senseless crime; and the heartbreak it has caused this family, who were only trying to help that POS out in the first place. No justice, really, at all. Anyhow, thanks for the upload & hope you have a great week, sisters!

How on earth can a judge show leniency to a convicted killer of the family who gave him care and compassion? If it had been his family, it would have been a very different sentence. How did we create an existence where no good deed goes unpunished and self serving sociopaths govern the world? Stop the spinning, I want to get off.

This is one of the best true crime channels on KZbin. Thank you for always presenting in an empathic but honest way that honors not only the victims and their families, but the facts that demonstrate the severity and weight of the offenses and the offenders. You manage to accomplish all of this without glorifying or otherwise dramatizing already serious subjects and this further shows your respect and consideration for them. Very well done.

Yeah i agree, a lot of crime channel especially from US are over dramatized and most of the time very insensitive and made their videos just for the impact and the views but not this channel. This channel is very sincere and genuine. Maybe because a lot of American crime KZbinr are used to henoust crime in the US media so they are numb to it unlike people in the UK.

How is concurrently running sentences for preplanned murder even an option??? And its even more insane that for multiple savage preplanned murders by hand (not even at a distance with a gun) the judge was able and chose to set concurrent sentences. The judge is judge saying the victims lives are worthh next to nothing.

I just watched the peacock episode on this. Am I the only one that thinks Cherie and her husband set him up to do the crime. How could a Tiny 16 year old over take 2 bigger grown men on his own ?? Cherie said there are bodies on the 911 call. Is that what you call family you love?? She said over and over they are dead. Why and how did she know 💯. They happened to be up during the time of the murders but heard nothing but a dog bark. Suspicious. They see the car. She says Jess went outside and followed the car w a gun. He said he didn’t. Suspicious. Than he finally admits it and says he passed the car cause he got scared. Really??? A big man like him. W a gun. Hmmmm. Suddenly she finds out her dad had a safe w a lot of money and she’s the main beneficiary. She called the cops so she doesn’t look suspicious taking the money. But really she knew all along and wanted that money. She doesn’t even appear truly sad on the show I just saw. I don’t know. I see guilt all over her face.
