I admire your honesty in your video's & the fact that you explain it all basically equates back to money & being realistic. I painted in the late 70's thru the 80's & a bit in the 90's, the "style" of work you show here was what the crash shop did for the used car trade, ie: "used car work". It was frowned upon by many but some of the rust repairs lasted over 15 years with the use of a really top quality rust converter & adhering to the sound principles of minimal build thickness & feathering repairs nicely, however without using the rust converter & a top quality bitumous sealant to water proof the repair from behind, the rust was straight back in 12 months. The trade drove me insane, everyone wanted the best & pay as little as possible, but being realistic & even tho not welding in whole new sections, the overall job was still very good. So feel good "Gunman" you have great skills & can make old cars more affordable for the boys to trick up, it is nice to see the older cars being restored & driven as well hey? Happy Painting good on you for sharing!

Hey Gunman I've been checking your videos out for going on 2 years now....I'm always impressed not just your work which s great!!!...but your integrity as a Automotive Paint and Repair Specialist and honesty of product use in the industry. I've been painting customizing for 12yrs now 9 of these years certified from body technical colleges and Trade schools I'm currently working on a 79 C3 Vette. I'm also a certified upholster with my certification held from Mobile Technical Institution located in Hackensack,NJ. I finished the seats for the C3 a while back which I will share on your community fb page if you don't mind mate lol. As a Marine I salute you with a "Semper Fi" (meaning always faithful) for being faithful to this public community of those interested or employed in this line of work. These titles of accomplishments don't mean a damn thing unless you do as the Gunman instructs you to do.....GET OUT THERE AND PAINT SOME SHIT!!!!!

I totally agree with you about filling over paint. OEM coatings are stuck on much better that we can hope for. Plus with cars galvanised panels you don't want to be grinding that protection off. Like you say if you finish off with a fine grit you have no problems

Hey man, like your vid - very realistic about the work. Pretty sure you'd have some haters saying do this and don't do that, but your upfront and honest and I respect that. Great stuff!

Lucky i checked the comments first before saying something bad about you and work but now i can leave a good comment im in construction these days and have worked on some big jobs like bridges buildings freeways doing steel fabrication but have worked in a panel shop doing steel fabrication work and i loved that job and the feeling you get when you see the car finished especially when its a SLR5000 GT OR A BROCK COMMODORE and you are totally right its all up to the customer and how much he wants to spend and you can get good results without steel fabrication I've always said and think im correct in saying that as long as the fillers don't get wet repairs can last 10 - 20 years even longer if keeped dry and the price of paint jobs these days no wonder customers opt for cheaper filler jobs i have herd 20-30k for a good bare metal paint job is that true . i hope the wages are better now than what they were 15 year ago thats the only reason i left anyway l like your work buddy and great videos

It would have been really cool to watch the panel patching. I'm doing some work on my car (with rusted areas) right now, and it really does come down to time investment vs life expectancy.

Hi Gunman, I have an LH in similar condition. What sort of money would a job like this cost? I know every job is different but a ball park figure would be helpful. Not matte though, just normal colour. And where are you in Aus?

Hey mate, great vid! How long (at our current temp) would you leave parts primed for? Using Duxone plus 2K and want to do different parts over the next few weekends and paint all in one weekend. Can it be left for around a month?
@TheGunmanChannel
@TheGunmanChannel 9 жыл бұрын
MrCrazyivan01 You can leave it for a long time but primer is still porous so try to keep it away from water

SwPiotrek It turns into a massive job otherwise so I understand why he wanted it done like this, I've done it this way loads of times and still lasts quite a while.

in my opinion these type of repairs are far more practical than the full big dollar cut and weld restos, i would rather a quicker and cheaper make-over and enjoy many good years of fun with your car on the road (especially on a toy like this) and worst case scenario get what 1 or 2 small easily fixed rust bubbles? unless its a show car who really cares? people can still go down the full resto route later on but why not enjoy it in the meantime

roflman Totally agree mate, I've been doing repairs like this for years and not being a panel beater I feel more confident doing these repairs anyway.
