Today's solved true crime case is on the murder of Carol Jenkins. Stalked and murdered on her first day at work as a door-to-door saleswoman, the racism in the police force at the time in the 1960s led to this becoming a cold case that would only be solved after 30 years.

You guys realize that not much has changed in this country, right? Granted they wouldn’t say “n-word girl” these days but the police typically avoid charging white people for murder when they victim is black. Trayvon Martin, stalked and attacked by a known racist while he was walking home after buying candy and juice. Zimmerman told the police it was self defense and the cops said “ok” and the case was closed. It wasn’t until people started protesting that the cops arrested him. Of course the jury let him go…the whole trial was rigged. Zimmerman became a hero for killing a black kid and white folks everywhere donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to his defense. The governor handpicked to the DA and her job was to lose the case. Ahmad Arberry…jogging and minding his own business. Two racist white men chase him in a truck. He’s exhausted so they catch up and kill him with a shot gun. Cops pull up and let him die before bothering to an ambulance. Of course the racists lied and say they were the victims here and the DA told the cops not to arrest them. A healthy black woman goes to an adult slumber party with other moms from her kids little league team. There’s a bunch of women and husbands of two of the women. Everyone else is white. The next morning the blank woman is found dead in the backyard. They called it suicide…no arrests. A few months ago a black woman went on a date with a white man she met on Tinder. Later that day he calls the police and says “she just died”…cops said he seemed like a nice guy and left it at that. They took no evidence from her apartment. I could go on and on. Nothing has changed. If you pay attention to the news you’ll see these cases. But I get it…nobody cares about black lives. While Gabby Petito was missing a black medical school student was also missing and found dead. He wasn’t all over the news 24/7.

Sad truth: Martinsville is still very much racist to this day. I live in Indianapolis, IN and do social work and case management and get cases from surrounding counties. I used to get cases for families in Martinsville (about 20 mins from me). As a black woman, I experienced first hand the racism that resides in this town. One time I had to stop for gas, and midway through me pumping, a white man came out the store and told me I needed to leave because “surely I was lost”. Yet, he saw my Indiana license plates. Families would refuse to work with me because of my race and worse. Now, I refuse to accept cases or even drive through the town because the people will stare at you through your car. It’s sad because there’s a lot of small towns in Indiana just like this; racist. As a black Indianian, we know which areas to stay out of.

As a person of color living in america, we still have sundown towns. And yes, this father was very very right that the reason her murder was so mishandled and investigated so lightly was because she was a single young black woman murdered in a sundown town. You said it yourself, one in two of the white men in that area were members of the KKK and unfortunately that's the reality, those statistics apply to the police as well there. This poor woman was brutally murdered in cold blood and despite her having as much of a life as any person, the police ignored the claims of her stalking and harassment, and this led to her death. Its disheartening and saddening to realize that this still happens today in this country constantly. Including the backlash Norma and Don faced.

Still in current day and time, harassment and stalking on first occurrence goes unpunished. As a white female, I had this happen to me and it took three reports and an almost child abduction to get the police to believe and do something. I could not imagine if I was if color how many more resorts had to be filed. But my point is, they (police) don’t do ANYTHING with just one report of harassment. Sadly ☹️

What he did was correct. He never knew that they were going to murder her. And in real life if a guy or girl stalked another or catcalled the most they will give them is a warning. They can't really arrest them for that. The police officer did the right thing. He let them off with a warning. That's appropriate to do. In his eyes, he saw these as little creepy and horny individuals. So many true crime stories are about how many evidence people had that someone stalked them and police "couldn't do anything" and later they found women dead. A lot of "laws" just protect criminals. Like here where I live someone can break in to my apartment, try to k!ll me and they can sue me if I hurt them physically lmao... in some states of usa as I know you can shoot a person who breaks in and tries to harm you. “They were saying some awful horrible men things” I laughed at this but I also felt bad because it’s horrible how normalized catcalling, sexual harassment, and sexual assault is today. I can say (I’m 17 turning 18 soon) that I’ve been catcalled by GROWN MEN since I was 12 when I would walk home from school, a time I didn’t even hit PUBERTY. I was a CHILD. And guess what? It was every day. And it still happens so often. I understand my womanly parts are apparent and kinda hard to hide, but a woman can be walking down the street with baggy clothes and get catcalled. And it’s NORMAL. Like I’m used to this and so are so many girls and women. It’s the same with social media, with the unsolicited images i and many woman receive. I get them so often, I delete social media. Men cannot keep it in their pants and nobody is trying to change this in the law. Awareness is being raised online, but nobody is doing anything. Unbelievable. And carol probably had it 20x worse back then as a young and beautiful black woman. I feel so bad for her and all black women who have had similar experiences. I love your videos!

I'm black, My brother went to Purdue University & GIRL! the stories he told me 🤯 My family asked him has he experienced racism there & his reaction told it all. He stopped what he was doing & looked at us like FUCK YES! What kind of dumb question is that? He was so offended & triggered 🤣 When Obama won in 2008 he said LITERALLY all the black students stayed in that night. They couldnt even turn up like that in public our go out b/c they knew what was up. You couldve not even voted for Obama but ur black sooooo. Purdue has this area dedicated to black history, there's a significant tree there & someone carved "NIGGER" in the tree. People will look at the black student's like "how did you get in, thats crazy" they all knew what that really ment. we're from South Florida so it was kinda shocking but not really. We were blessed to have it both ways growing up around EVERYONE & Some bomb ass, pure amazing, loving, Chill white people who really riding with & love us black folk. If they don't like u it's *GENUINELY* not b/c ur black, They hung around around you & just can't stand you & be more mad when white people are racist then us. We see yall & love yall for that 🥰 Alot of The white people we grew up around were built different lol but best believe we know what & experience racism, micro aggressions, racial profiling as well. At the end of the day, we're black & everyone see's color. my brother's Indiana experience was shocking because we expect you to hide the racism not be proud of it lol at 18 My brother quickly realized he wasn't in Florida anymore & couldn't wait to get the fuck out of Indiana

I'm black and I live in Indiana. Before I was born, my mom was dating and had a child (My older sister) with a man who was working on becoming a police officer. This was in the 80's. He was still in the Academy and was not yet considered an officer. He was afraid of some of the police officers because most of them were white and not very nice to him to begin with. In around 1987, he was shot and killed by an officer while acting out an academy scenario of an irate tenate (played by my moms boyfriend). In the statements, it says it was an "accident" but considering he never felt comfortable there to begin with, my mom always believed otherwise. The man who shot him wasn't a rookie cop by any means, he had been a cop for about 14 years and should have known to check if the gun was loaded or not. Apparently, he left to fuel a vehicle and because of that he loaded his gun and when he got back for the scenario FORGOT to unload it. I'm unsure if it is protocol for an officer to load their gun to fuel a vehicle but it doesn't sound quite necessary to me.
