Bravo Tim. Many thanks for this content. Love the blend of commentary, WW2 history and holiday on bikes. Now to go find some full length documentaries on the SAS and their operations in France to complete my appreciation of their sacrifice. We are so blessed to be able to enjoy our freedoms because of the sacrifices of men like that. Under appreciated so often these days it seems. Even though I hail from Northern California with some of the best roads in the world, I so envy you chaps for being able to just ride onto a train, hop off in France and then ride to explore beautiful scenery and WW2 historical sites. That is, all while riding bikes and within a day or two from home. PS Every time I hear the growl of your SP's engine it makes me laugh out loud. I bought a used '23 SP several months ago and I feel instantly connected when you include the sound of your bike revving on the gas. 😊

As a follow up to my earlier comment, the attached link is a documentary that chronicles the post war SAS mission that brought the perpetrators of these war crimes to justice. For what it is worth, the SAS also had a number of female operatives who parachuted alone into occupied France who were subsequently captured and brutally executed. Courageous women also gave their lives for our freedoms. Link below kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXa1ZZaHi8-asM0si=9ojQ1mhGU4yIrH9h

Thanks for the tip to check out your other channel. I enjoy riding on two wheels in the hills/mountains and valleys. But considerably slower than you given I only have 2 LP (leg power). That’s said I did overtake 3 cars descending the Tourmalet, which in hindsight wasn’t my smartest decision. Bloody good fun though. Fitting tribute to the SAS chaps who lost their lives - thank you

If I ever took a pushbike fast enough to overtake a car I’d immediately fall off, so respect for that!

Really looking forward to this series…..I love all the bike stuff, but the history adds something special 👍👍…..and great timing for the chrimbo break. Also good as I’ve just got back to the south of France from a Christmas visit to my wife’s family in Heidelberg. It’s a lovely town and apparently still pristine as one of the only main towns we didn’t bomb 👍😃👍 I’d recommend the Berg Hastof Konigstuhl for a stay as it a great view, high up, and good value, with a funicular railway, and pucker restaurant…..but not in mid winter on a bike, as we needed a 4x4 to get through the snow, followed by an awesome drive through the Alps via Lugano. Also, thanks for a great year of viewing…..please do lots more in 2025. Wishing you and all your viewers a splendid New Year 👍

Been looking forward to this since you announced it a few months ago. Vosges is One of my favourite destinations and I was also aware of Operation Layton- so taking copious notes so I can retrace some of your steps. Worth stopping off at Trier for a night. Lots of Roman stuff if that interests you as well.

The unit badge was originally based on the flaming sword of Excalibur, somewhere between design and finalising it the flames changed to wings. Great series.

The passing of time and historical context adds poignancy to the fate these brave men suffered and which rightly should be deplored. And yet, how sobering (and depressing) is the evidence - of which there is plenty - that members of the same regiment have in recent times (Afghanistan being but one example) behaved in ways not disimilar to their German counterparts 80 years ago 😢

I'm a big fan of les Vosges. I knew there was wartime history all around but not aware of operation Loyton. Popcorn at the ready for next episodes... On a slightly (putting it mildly) different note. What sort of range is your mucker of the GS900 getting? Asking for a friend 😏

There is no denying that the Nazis were bastards of the first order, however I watch your channel for the bike content. IMHO, the war stuff (particularly the executions) is somewhat incongruous....and detracts from the overall experience.

I think when paying respects to our fallen men a little more reverence in the commentary would be more appropriate, came across a bit like ticking boxes. All of these young men gave their lives for their country and for the liberation of France and I'm sure that they all still have living relatives that still mourn their loss. It is great that you take us to places that most of us will never get to see, so thank you very much for doing that, next time try to imagine that one of those graves was that of your granddad, because that's precisely what it may-well be.
@auscurrymaster4 күн бұрын
Speaking personally, and just another point of view, I had no issue with the way Tim dealt with the subject matter and perceived no lack of reverence.
@denisg42884 күн бұрын
I thought it was delivered in a way that wasn’t disrespectful personally. I guess we all see things differently.
@timrodierides3 күн бұрын
I totally take your point. I watch a lot of war documentary style content and personally find a lot of it ends up a bit too mawkish. I think as adults we all knows it’s a desperately sad and tragic topic, but going around doffing caps doesn’t really add to things. I also have the problem where I then have to segue into messing about on motorbikes, so I try to find a balance in tone that lets me do both in one video. I totally realise it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea though.
