Murphy Ranch is a pretty strange hike in Los Angeles that has the remains of a planned Nazi compound from the 1930s. While not much is left from the compound today, there are still a few things you can see on a hike to this weird spot in Los Angeles. I wanted to make this video to show what was still here since it is a question I am often asked on the website. Let me know what you think in the comments.

What an interesting place! You were brave to go by yourself the first time. With all those steps, I can imagine it would be easy to get turned around. Good video!

The one thing I miss about California was it's scenic beauty, but especially its hiking trails. So many amazing hiking trails, and so many places to explore. There's a compound, and even some old mining equipmentment left behind. The trail is called Sapphire trails, in Alta Loma California.

What a great video, thank you for making the update. It's such a shame the gate was no longer there but you were lucky enough to see it.

I recall biking a ridge overlooking that place in the 90s and my friend briefly mentioning something about the Nazi compound "down there" but I had no idea of the full history. I don't think it was open to the public then but I could be mistaken on that. Now I wish I'd have went down to check it out.

Thanks for the intriguing story! Why do those Los Angeles people feel like they need to tag the hiking trails? I don't see this happening near as much in other areas.

I don't know why there is so much graffiti on some of these trails either, it is a bummer

There's around 10 million people living not far away from there and it only takes a small percentage of those to produce a huge amount of graffiti. I suspect most Angelinos are against such behavior but, unfortunately, it's almost impossible to control.

Some friends of mine regularly go out into the Chatsworth hiking areas (very close to the place in this video) and re-paint the rocks back to a rock color. They're volunteers and have the city's approval.

Why was there going to be a Nazi Compound in America before we entered the war? Could you explain more if possible? I'm confused, and rather alarmed I never heard of this, I research this time a lot. Thank you sooooo much for your channel, its so neat. Your poor feet with those steps!!! 📉
@jyzo
@jyzo 2 жыл бұрын
There wasn’t. Some Nazi-supporting people built it because they expected the Nazis to win the war. If they had won the war, these people thought the Nazis would need a place to begin their US operations. Essentially, they were foolishly hopeful. They wanted to be a “teacher’s pet” and be commended by Hitler and/or his upper administration.

Maybe people are more comfortable defacing a place associated with freaking Nazis that isn't rendered sacred by the blood of their victims or Allied soldiers.
