Another nice compilation of the flooding event around the Riverland area. The drone work really gives a great perspective on it all. Thanks for sharing this, Amy.

@AmyOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! They're doing a brilliant job. I spoke with one of the contractors while I was there and he was telling me that they're digging the trenches down below water level to put the bases of the levies in - it's a race against the rising levels for them at the moment, and there's so much more to get done! Tell them thanks from me!

Hello Amy, no wilderness camping on the river for you for a while! The Reg Gums and other trees are getting a good soak. The over oxygenated water is a very interesting negative side effect of the floods. No good for the fish or Murray crays. Thanks, Paul
@AmyOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Too right Paul! There isn't going to be much dry land to camp on for a few months once the levels rise another 20cm or so. The blackwater is not great, we can already smell it in the water coming out of our pipes at home... it's caused from the decomposition of all the organic matter being washed into the river feom the floodplains, which uses up all the oxygen in the water, leaving not-very-much for the fish and crays. I hope the Murray Cray population doesn't take too big a hit!
@Youcanttouchmyhandle2 жыл бұрын
Have councils provided information for those effected on water contamination from chemicals, building materials, asbestos etc? The SES has some information up. Wondering if people are getting information on how to protect themselves and how long it will be before they can grow in contaminated soils. What households medical centres business can do to contain as much of these things as they can so they don’t contribute to the situation? Thank you so much for the footage

Great to see the broader picture of the floods in S.A Amy. The Red Gums & Box Gums will be happy. My nephew just helped helped his mate lift all the first floor shack stuff up to second floor at Scott's Creek near Morgan. Long time since I've seen the river like this

Travelling along the Murrumbidgee yesterday, it’s running a banker, high water heading towards Hay now. It will bring flood misery I know, but there’s somehow something awesome about seeing the power and dynamics of a big river running full water.

I know what you mean! Its been 6 months since I was paddling on the Murrumbidgee with high-water levels (pre-flood) and even then it was fascinating to watch how the water behaved in areas it didn't normally flow.

People need to think ahead. Floods will likely now not happen again for many years. All this water has created a huge amount of growth that will mean huge bush fire risk for the next few years.
@AmyOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it probably will mean a lot of bushfire fuel unfortunately. It will be interesting to see how the riverbanks have changed after being underwater for a few months.
