In this video, I'll be uncovering my Musa Basjoo banana plant to see if the pseudostems have survived outside in the UK for a 3rd winter. We had a fairly mild winter overall, with just a couple of cold spells, but thankfully they didn't last as long as last year. I will also post updates later in the year to show how it has been progressing.
How I overwintered my Musa Basjoo in December: • Musa Basjoo Banana Ove...

Actually they look huge Peter. I suspect because you look at them all the time that you haven't realised just how much they've grown 😱. Very impressive. I have seen them flower occasionally in this area so you've got every chance there 🤞

Haha, yeah you are right Brett. You often don't notice how much things have grown when you see them every day. I checked back to my last video on them and yeah there is a pretty significant change. One of the benefits of documenting your plants on KZbin 😂

They are lovely Peter. They always look great when left in clumps. A few of mine flowered and produced fruit when they were around 6 years old. I also gave away a few babies to a friend. The babies were 3 feet tall when I removed them and she potted them up individually into large pots. The following year one of them produced a flower but no fruit. Crazy considering they were small compared to mine. I know she is a big fan of miracle gro, so maybe that played a part as well. My current basjoos are also wind battered. Thanks for the video. Regards. 👍

Thanks for watching! Yeah, I also love them when they are grown as a clump. Yeah, the wind has been really damaging to the leaves this year. I'm hoping that we get some calmer and warmer weather so it can replace all the old tattered leaves in the coming weeks 🤞

@@peterwagstaff2715 thanks Peter. Yeah, the leaves are quite tattered at the moment. I’m hoping we have calmer and warmer conditions for the rest of summer 🤞 (if you can even call it summer lol 😂).

Thanks for the update Peter. Looks like it’s doing really well… I saw a clump that was flowering and they were about that size. So it could be this year 🤞

Your Musa looks great, Peter. It will be a real achievement when they flower. We still have some warmer weather ahead so it'll be interesting to see what they look like by the end of August. *KZbin auto-deleted my previous comment ... lets see if their A.I allows it this time.

Thanks, Dom! Yeah, I'll be thrilled to get a flower from one of these someday, even though I won't be able to eat the bananas (although I would try it if they ripened lol). I know they often flower in the south, but you don't hear of many people managing to get them to a flowering size up here. The temperatures are looking a little better this week, but it doesn't look like it will last long here. I don't know what's up with KZbin comments at the moment, there definitely seems to have been an update as a lot of my comments and replies have been disappearing over the last couple of days. Even on my own videos, which I've not seen before!

Both of my replies to Louise and Oliver seem to have been removed by KZbin's AI 🙄. A reply shows, but when I expand I don't see anything...

@@PeterEntwistle The A.I is really bad. I worry that people will comment on my videos and falsely assume it was I that deleted their comment. Potentially I could lose subscribers because they think I don't respect their comments or opinions. SMH.
@PeterEntwistle
@PeterEntwistle Ай бұрын
@@MoebiusUK Yeah, it's got much worse recently. I very rarely delete comments on my videos, unless it's obviously spam or hateful. Even if I don't agree with someone's comment I will leave it. But now I can't post anything without fear it's going to get instantly removed so I always copy what I've typed out and wait 30-40 seconds and refresh the page to see if it's there or not. Sometimes it can take a bit longer, but if it's not there after a minute, it won't come back and I have to try and work out what part of the comment 'might' trigger the AI to flag it and try to reword it. But now it's just getting ridiculous. I can't even tell someone how I fertilise my banana plant ffs... (that will probably get this comment removed too lol).

Your Musa Basjoo clump looks very healthy Peter. What fertilizer are you using?
@PeterEntwistle
@PeterEntwistle Ай бұрын
Thanks, Mike. I use a mixture of different things. Chicken manure pellets, compost and also an organic fertiliser that's fairly balanced. The fertiliser contains 3 ingredients, but for some reason, KZbin has not been allowing me to mention them as it always seems to delete my comments (one of them is fish). I feature it in this video that I made about 2 years ago kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4Wcn5yElLSqoc0

I wish enough people moved over to a platform that does not censor at all. But the 'big channels' on youtube won't do that because they'd lose the money they make.
@PeterEntwistle
@PeterEntwistle Ай бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately, I don't see that happening anytime soon. I think the main reason it's happening is because KZbin is trying to please all of its advertisers at the expense of us the users who actually make and watch content on their platform, without which they wouldn't even have a business but I digress... Any other platform that launches would also suffer the same issues as they would have to filter content out that could be controversial or face very few advertisers willing to pay for ads on their platform. The only other option would be to ask users to pay a subscription instead, but of course that limits who would be able to join it (and KZbin does have a paid offering, which I currently pay for, although I will be cancelling). There are alternatives out there of course, such as Instagram reels and TikTok, but I imagine the censorship on those platforms is just as bad, if not worse. Also, I much prefer to make and consume "long format" videos rather than "short format" videos (aka KZbin shorts). I also watch videos mostly on a computer rather than a mobile device (except when I'm on the move), so I prefer to have videos in landscape rather than portrait, but I admit I'm probably in the minority here...

What do you feed yours on
@PeterEntwistle
@PeterEntwistle Ай бұрын
@@peterwagstaff2715 I don’t feed it as often as I should to be honest. I mostly use a balanced organic fertiliser which has 5-5-6 NPK and also some chicken manure. I also top-dress the ground with compost too from time to time. I also give it all the leaves I collect from around the garden.

No biggie, but I left a comment and can see that the 'Ashkeni' of censortube removed it. So, I might as well say the following, which will make as much sense as the suppression of freeexpression: "Luppaluppaluppaluppaluppluppaluppaluppaluppaluppa" Makes no sense at all, doesn't it? Much like the censorship makes no sense!
@PeterEntwistle
@PeterEntwistle Ай бұрын
Lol, yeah it certainly wasn't me. It's also been removing my comments left, right and centre over the last few days. Even comments I make in reply to comments on my own videos, which I've never seen it do before... I still can't figure out why it's removing them. I've not mentioned a single thing that could be considered controversial or spammy. I'm not sure if you saw my reply to another comment you made on the maprang video (assuming it's not been removed by the all-mighty KZbin comment god, who is infallible... not... lol), but I had a lengthy, but overall fruitless conversation with the youtube support team. Honestly, I preferred it when I got spam comments and I could manually choose which ones to remove myself and not leave it up to our future AI overlords. There is even a feature that is meant to hold potentially spam comments to allow you the creator to review, but I've not had one comment fall into that section, the algorithm removes it long before I even get a chance to see it and decide if it is really spam or falsely identified by their broken system.
