I have a special place in my heart for these cars. I actually have 3 1978 Trans Ams. I love to see these being saved. Not many people would spend that kind of money to save that car. This gem has now been given another life. Thanks to all involved.

Great Trans Am, great story. I have always loved the late '70's T/A' s. I remember during the summer of 1978, taking drivers' education and seeing them on the road and saying "some day." All the best to the family of the beautiful Trans Am!

Magnificent result. The aftermarket Sunroof looks factory and those wheels wow .... and to top it off No Banditt bird stickers. I would do the same thing if my dad let me pick the colors too.

That's a beautiful resto job with a classic family history. Can't beat that combination. To me this is worth more than any exotic to this guy. Imagine remembering as a kid choosing the colors on his dad's car.... My mind is blown! I hope this beautiful calssic Trans Am follows this family for many generations!

My dad's boss had a 1970 Firebird Formula, and when I saw it I fell in love with it. I must have been 7 years old, so around 1972. The company he worked for gave him a company car as a perk, and he got to choose a new car every 3 years. In 1977, when Smokey and The Bandit came out I saw the black Trans Am and told my dad "It'd be so cool if you got a car like that one day." In July, 1977 we went to the local Pontiac dealership to "see what they had" as my father put it. I thought he was going to "look" at a Firebird just for my benefit and settle on something more business-like. He talked with the salesman for a while, we took a ride in it and we left. Nothing more was said about the car. A month later, I was at summer camp and received a letter from my brother. He told me some of the stuff he'd been doing while I was away and then I saw the words "We got the Firebird." I was seriously taken aback. A week or so later, when camp ended and families were coming to pick up their kids, I'm anxiously waiting for my family. All of a sudden, I hear a low rumble and see this black 1977 Formula roll up with my family inside. When they got out, I said something like "No way! Is this ours?!" Dad beamed at me and said "Yep, it's ours for the next 3 years. I knew you loved it so I got it." In 1980, he taught me how to drive in that car. After I earned his trust behind the wheel and had my permit, we went out to practice; when we got to the vacant business park we used as a practice area, we switched seats and I made myself at home in the driver's seat. Then he turned to me, smiled and said "Hit it....HARD!". I knew what he meant so I buried the gas pedal. Obviously we couldn't go far or fast, but it was so fun to smoke those tires for a few seconds. Not too long after that, it was time to turn the car back to the company. What a great core memory.

Beautiful job! I love that silver on red color combination and the larger reproduction wheels are perfect. I personally would have gone with the 18 inch version wheels, though. I'm guessing this restoration cost about $50k - $60k.

I had a Black on Black Velour '78 W-72 with every option but T-Tops. The Shaker was professionally cut out with a screen insert, completely functional with a smaller diameter chrome air cleaner cover. They sound fantastic opened up. My buddy had a Lucy Blue '72 455 H.O. 4 Speed. They had a Vacuum assisted Shaker butterfly back then.

2:08 ''Owner didn't want that stuff'' ...tell me about someone who has good taste. Even better it would have been a '74 with the small rear window. I still applaud this delete choice.

Just beautiful! But honestly, these "sunroofs" are pure evil. Without it i believe, floors could have been in good shape as exterior.

Firebird, Camara, Challenger/Cuda, Mustang - All are *Pony Cars,* which are different from Muscle Cars. They are not the same.

Unfortunately I can’t think of anything after 1972 that had any performance because of the lack of compression and the emission restrictions.

The music and transition sounds are distracting, just focus on the car and not the editing.
