The Sumo Deadlift
A great exercise that you must perform the right way!
Take your stance, feet under the bar with a wide stance and your toes out.
Squat down and grasp bar.
Squeeze the bar off the floor and drag it up your legs until it locks out at the top (do not pull back into the shins).
The bar should come off the ground in a vertical path.
Keep these three rules:
1) The bar must start over mid-foot
2) The shoulders must start slightly in front of the bar
3) The hips must start relatively high
The target muscles are the quadriceps femoris and gluteus maximus (colored red)
Note: Also the spinal erectors can be a part of the target muscles (isometric contraction).
The action in the hip joint is an extension with adduction.
The adductors adduct the hip and assist in hip extension.

Many people dont know the difference between a sumo squat, sumo romanian deadlift and an actual sumo deadlift. Teaching the right setup is key. And knowing different phases of the lift. Like the building of tension before liftoff the ground. Always do singles in double overhand setting up from standing position, til everything is right. Practicing perfect form makes perfect. Then start to push boundaries. On occasion only to keep good form dominant. Very underestimated exercise in skill level. Big gains possible for those who can put their ego aside. Love it and love teach it to veterans! Thank you for another amazing animation. It explains so much in such a short time. Very useful.

Hips should he a little bit high Bar should be over the mid foot Shoulders should be relatively front the bar

What about hips shoot up at the start of the movement? Weak quads or what?

it means you are starting with your hips too low, you should have the same hips height that you have when the weight leave the ground.

Yes, but I feel like you're trying to negate the point of that segment which is to weigh out the pros and cons to each grips in this exercise.
