This is my absolute favorite Dart body! I refer to these as smaller Road Runners. I've only seen a couple with the big block and I believe one was the 440. I like the idea of it being a 4 speed car. I'd be happy with a 340 under hood. 😉

Actually, Mr. Norm wasn't the first to install a 383 in a 67 Chrysler a-body. Plymouth offered the Barracuda from pretty much the get go of the model year. Dodge was not planning on this, but Norm was a Dodge dealer, and wanted Dodge to do it as well. These big block cars, including the 68 Hemi and 69 440 versions were not intended to be mass sellers, but allowed drag racers to use these blocks in the stock classes, which were very popular selling tools for the manufacturers.

In the Canadian town I lived in, I used to pass by a red 68 Dart GTS convertible, 383, 4spd. with white interior and a white top, in the late 70's. An extremely rare car especially in a place like Canada. Through the grapevine I heard that it was kept for the son of a guy in town...who destroyed it in an accident. It probably had disc brakes and standard steering.
