My father worked at a Dodge dealer and ordered a new 1968 R/T with a Hemi. It had a 3.55 Sure Grip rear, with automatic transmission. It had almost no other options. My father was disappointed with the throttle response and he rejetted the carbs according to Mopar Performance recommended carb jetting and changed to the distributor to a Mallory dual point, instead of recurving the stock one. The 1968 Coronet would hold water under the trunk lid edges, against the trunk seal and rust out. Dodge fixed that in the 1969 Coronet.

Always loved the Coronet over the roadrunner/gtx because of the beautiful lines. The turquoise and white interior puts this one over the top.

I think the color is very Pontiac-like.

Had the chance to buy a 69 R/T with the 440, a/t, a/c… same color combo with a white convertible top for $2200 in 1988 California. I had just gotten into a bad car accident in SF and was all banged up and I couldn’t swing it under the circumstances. Had a 69 Coronet 440 hardtop, white w/318 at the time and will always regret not buying it. My favorite car…period. That 68 brings back the memories and is an amazing Mopar… great video 👍🏼 Campy… it’s a Hemi R/T not 500 😮 (we know what you meant)

Like the blue and white. Same color combo, but different shade of blue, as my Roadrunner. 👍
@musclecarcampy9922Ай бұрын
Technically, this was turquoise, but the sun was really playing tricks on us that day. Sometimes it looked blue sometimes it looked turquoise.

I love these old cars, but what concerns me is modern unleaded gas. The lead in fuel was for lubrication, and does ethanol pose a danger?
@musclecarcampy992225 күн бұрын
At this point, most of the cylinder heads have been upgraded with hardened valve seats. If not, there are lead additives or substitutes to use. Race gas, too. Ethanol can eat up a fuel system, too

I had one in forest green. No strip. Paid 13 hundred in 72. 😢
@71three5ohscrambler8Ай бұрын
Seems to me that the Hemi could not reach max horse power having only travel a quarter of a mile. That's why it was a NASCAR motor. I think in most situations, the 440 Six Pack would win the 1/4 mile.
@musclecarcampy9922Ай бұрын
You are incorrect. You could reach peak horsepower in first gear.
@71three5ohscrambler8Ай бұрын
@musclecarcampy9922 I know, but can you run the 1/4 mile in first gear?
@musclecarcampy9922Ай бұрын
@@71three5ohscrambler8No, but every race starts in first and if you have proper gearing you finish at redline in high gear.
@71three5ohscrambler8Ай бұрын
@musclecarcampy9922 ur right. In the end it is about the gearing, the weight, and the driver. Rock on brother.😊
