I just LOVE the pin striped whitewall tires on these early 1968 1969 Corvettes! It really gives that Sleeper look! 🙃

When I was 12 yrs old my dad came home with a 68 L71 Lemans blue with black interior t-top, close ratio "rock crusher" 4 speed. I got to wash and wax it alot and for my effort dad would give me a "corvette" ride. In his younger days he raced stock cars so power sliding around a cloverleaf was not uncommon. I can still hear the solid lifters and the whine of the tranny.

I'm a chevy-hating FORD man, but a 68 Corvette has special significance for my Dad and I, cuz he had to sell his Canary Yellow w/Black Interior, 4spd, 12 Bolt 4.88 Posi, 427 Big Block Corvette because my baby seat wouldn't fit in it....he sold it in 1974 for $2300.00....and I've had to hear about that shit my entire life....smmfh

The '68 and '69 T-top coupes had a cool design feature that I never hear mentioned (I owned a '69, so that's how I know about it): the rear window could be removed in a few seconds and stored in a cavity above a drop-down shelf, so when it was stored it took no space from the "luggage area." The T-tops, however, when inserted into their protective envelopes and stacked beneath that drop-down shelf, took virtually all the storage space. I made a hundred-mile trip in mine with the T-tops off and rear window out and side windows down. At the end of that trip, my ears were ringing so badly I could scarcely engage anyone in conversation.

@@truebetold65 Thanks! I did not know that. I loved the '69 best because of the front fender vents design, but if I had another one I would put a 1973 urethane nose on it; I thought the thin chrome piece was kind of silly, but loved the rigid ducktail spoiler that died with the '73.

@@SidsCardShop I agree.. this design, to me, I think is one or perhaps one the best looking American cars made, Duntov (the father of the Corvette) loved them and hated the C2 design.. He stopped the the split window on the 64. The C2 is a classic but the C3 lines inspired by the early Ferraris especially the 68-72 cannot be matched in my book. Hands down.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍

I had to wipe my drool off of my keyboard before commenting on this one! I've been a Corvette fan since I was old enough to know what a Corvette is, and I don't think I've ever seen a white '68 vette with an L89, but this one's beautiful. Dad had a green '68 L72 but had to sell it to feed me and my brothers. I told him I could have skipped a meal every day so he could have kept it!! Oh, if only I were as lucky as these brothers.

@@edwardalamo2507 The very early '66 only L72... when they rated it at 450 hp for only a couple of months, then the executives mandated that all cars had to have a 10 to 1 weight to hp ratio or less...? Yeah, those are extremely rare. Just as rare are the early '65s with the 327 fuelie engines that were still available until the 396 was introduced in Jan '65.

Back in '80, I got a '68 Corvette Roadster which had originally been an L88 car. The L88 was long gone and the 427 it had was blown. I traded a '75 Monza with the 350 V8 for it. I had an old LS-6 sitting in the garage, so I rebuilt it with "Air Research" ported heads and a roller cam. I "hogged" out a factory hi-rise and ran an 850 Holley and nitrous. I ran 4:88 gears with 10.5 McCreary treaded slicks. I used it for street racing.

ANOTHER HUGE MISTAKE. THE L89 WAS THE 396 WITH ALUMINUM HEADS. YOU ARE SHOWING AN L88 427!!! I have been a Chevy fan since the 60s. I've enjoyed the videos but I really have to question the accuracy of a lot of your facts. Get your facts right and use a teleprompter. It's not cheating if you don't know.
@thud9797
@thud9797 4 ай бұрын
Ok all your facts are wrong. We're talking Corvette here and not Camaro or Chevelle and what was shown in this video was not an L88 but the Corvette L89, the 427 L71 with street mechanical camshaft and 3x2 Holley with Aluminum Heads which were coded RPO L89.

fair enough but it turns out the infos wrong about the weight on these, turns out their not nearly as much as that beautiful 1971 cuda in your photo, turns out their closer to 2900 pounds, and all around disc brakes and radial tires by 73. although the 68's are an ugly year lol and this thing is speced terrible and looks more like a concept car than anything else, 73 and 78's are the best years for these lookwise for me, worse 68 and 81 lol plus these had some unique one year old options, the windshield wiper doors were gone by 69/70, they changed the flaring, tires and the stance and did a bunch of subtile options and changes to them hence why no two are alike, and why the latter ones looked so much better than these, the chrome cars really came into their own in 72/73 and 71 if your a chrome bumper fan is really the zenith of them.
