#musclecar #v8tv
Book: www.musclecaroftheweek.com/cor...
This week, we take a closer look at one of the high points of Corvette style and power with this 1969 Chevrolet Corvette roadster featuring the 435 HP L71 427 V8 under the hood. This beautiful Daytona Yellow 4-speed Corvette is nearly all original, and is showing just over 30,000 miles on the odometer. Even the original analog clock still works! It's an amazing car from the Brothers Collection.

When I was about 7yr. My older brother had a 1969 triple black,427 tri power, 4spd convertible with the hard top vette. He also had a 1970 ss396 shadow grey with black vinyl top, black interior chevelle. He had 2 1966 gto's and a 1965 el camino, 4spd that he put a 396 motor in it. Soooo, I grew up loving cars and loving muscle cars!!!

I loved taking rides in my dad's 69 L88. It would fly! I got to drive it once on my 16th birthday. Then he wanted to restore it so he started taking it apart. He then switched to fixing up his 56 Belaire and never went back to the vette. Been in the barn since 1991. I guess that project will eventually fall on to me. And yes, it's a numbers matching L88!

I had a 1969 427/435 automatic . Equipped with ,road racing suspension, and a tilt wheel, two tops and and factory side pipes,an not much more. Was hard to start, engine was always loading up, ran hot often, and always chirped the tires when it shifted into second. Rear tires lasted about 6 weeks then were replaced , tires cost 36$ each. Got fantastic gas mileage if you were careful. We were gearheads , and worked on tuning the car , mine had like 373 gears or 355. We timed for performance , tweaked the carb jets and replace the carb linkage with manual progressive linkage . ITS WAS SCARY FAST. I never lost a race . Nothing ever passed it on the road and I took on all comers . One Sunday morning I stuck the snout in the exhaust of a Pantera . At 50 mph his exhaust showed the driver had downshifted ,I turned left and stood in the gas ,surprise surprise the Pantera opened a gap . Then at 85 in second the gap still held, at 120 the gap closed ,at 135 I waved goodbye. That was the only time anyone had a lead on the vette. She would wind the speedometer past 165 all the way to zero and it was still going , but this came with the price of cooking the motor ,the temp hand would rise as long as you were WOT. So speed runs were short in duration, I do remember that with the windows rolled up and at 145 plus you could poke your fingers between the top and windows . Yes the body deformed that much at speed . One morning on the way to college I met a state trooper in a 35 mph zone I guess my speed 75/80. His response was Blue lights and a bootleg turnaround . Mine was WOT , I never saw him again, but school was 11 miles away and I needed to park the car at school before the police in the next town could cut me off. I ran Deep in the throttle for 11 mile, I ran her hard . Parked the car in the shade ,and went to class for 4 hours. I was the cool cat , I walked back to my car , stuck a key in the door . An just like magic a trooper car appeared just 3 feet behind me . The officer just curled his finger with that “ come here “ move . I sat down in his car, and he looked at me and asked “ do you know how fast that car will run”? To which I replied “ no sir” He replied “ we don’t either , we never were able to keep you in site” That was when I realized there was a second trooper on the same road waiting for me that had also gave chase. The officer was a mature trooper , and then he said with a deep sigh “ son your not going to live very long if you don’t slow down”. And with that he motioned me to exit the car , and he left. I apologize for being so stupid , I really thought I was Joe cool . On the upside I I did grow up without ever wrecking or harming anyone , and I have one of those vettes parked in the garage

I've been lucky enough to own three C-3 Vettes ('68 327 roadster, '71 LS-5 454 roadster, and '71 LS-5 454 coupe) and I loved them all. I keep thinking about buying another one but, I just turned 60 and I don't know if I have it in me to build another car.

69 was the pinnacle year for Corvettes in regards to styling and engine options. Of course just my personal humble opinion. While as a teenager I always dreamed of a C2, I find the styling of the chrome bumper 69 nowadays much more appealing. Sitting in one is a unique experience. It's much like sitting in a gocart with your butt almost touching the road and one of the reasons I prefer the 69 Corvette over any Muscle Car of the era. This version with the L71 and factory sidepipes is the cream of the crop (ignoring the L88 for a moment). Great video.

In 1976 I had a 69 427 390 HP automatic. orange roadster with a removable hardtop. . What a car. God did that thing ever go. I would give my left n^% to have it now. The 68s weren't as good because it was the into year. They got all the bugs out of it for 69 You can always tell the difference right away because the 68 had a button below the door handle. It was gone in 69. Then the 70 had different side vents and exhaust cut outs at the back.

This ain’t no Corvette, it’s a Sting Ray, when they possessed real style. As a 13yr old teenager, when Chevy released the Manta Ray concept car into a street reality, everyone flipped-out/loved it. I don’t know the engine# pkg you mentioned, but Chevy was using lo-po blocks, heads, rods for their 390/400hp pkgs. It could have closed chamber heads, but hp denotes large port heads. 11:1 C/R could mean a 4blt main block also, 10.25:1 engines got 2blt main blocks.

Also it’s kinda pricey for the whole kit about 5k but well worth having the overdrive gear. It’s much more street able and Increases gas milage and top speed. I can cruise at 75 mph now at about 2000 rpm instead of 3000 rpm. Also I noticed car runs cooler in the summer.

the side pipes add character 2 this car...i wood imagine that it wood give the engine more h.powers than going over the axel bacs over the differential...+ no mufflers??
@thud9797
@thud9797 3 ай бұрын
The sidepipes in 69 were pretty restrictive and nobody bought them for performance, they were for looks only and they had mufflers in the side pipes. And the Vette has an independent rear suspension with the differential bolted to the frame so the undercar exhaust is a straight shot and goes really to the side of the diff rather than over it.

+MFSB The lacquer and enamel paints back then did not have very good UV protection and so sun exposure would roach them in short order compared to the modern base coat/clear coat and single stage urethane paints of today.

+MFSB. Seriously? You can't imagine the elements taking their toll on a car over 45 years depending on how much time it spent outdoors? I could buy a brand new car of any make, park it outdoors in the sun for a couple years and it'll need a new paint job despite not having any miles on it...
