Got all choked up watching Stan reunited with his old Tempest These cars are someone special to me because my uncle had the convertible version for many many years in his garage. He also modified the driveline with a different wrecks all in the transmission upfront. Sadly the car was sold as I was not in a position to take ownership of it. It was a low mileage all original Pontiac Tempest Lemans convertible.

This car sold on ebay for like a quarter million in 2008. I remember stumbling upon the listing and saving pics and Q/A from the seller and would be buyers. If I recall it sold with a steel nose but the buyer and or restorer tracked down the aluminum nose for it. Drag racing history right here and a great interview with Stan.

Hardly anybody talks @the tempest that won Daytona that year. That was the 1st year on the new track.Bare in mind that car had the 421/trans axel car& trans was a glide(2 spd). The car was up against the 427 vettes,Ferraris,or the euro sports cars.Mercedes was trying to get back into racing & they bought one to do a study on it to see what made it so fast...GM made a big mistake in not getting much publicity out that race. The very next year Ford starts up their attack to beat Ferrari when GM did it in 63.lm going to answer my own guestion, the reason in retrospect, was that GM was controling too much of the market. They had to help the other mfg due to goverment directive...
