My teens hit the gym with me and I love it. I push them a little bit and they inflate my tiny ego to go a little harder. My 18 year olds friends asks for pics of me shirtless 😂 it’s nice to be the shredded dad

@@PoisonJarl71501 that's awesome! It's good to be a Fitdad. It's a good example for our kids. My son has gotten much stronger. Even his older sister noticed he's getting "buff". My daughters high school friends labeled me a DILF lol. It's an uncomfortable validation but I'm 44 and feel like I'm 27. Nonetheless I social distance when they're at our house lol.

I'm 55 and if anything I'm more educated than ever in my training of over 40 years. I find this channel to be a great help as well with tips and strategies to best continue along in now my longevity instead of where it used to be about how much I could lift.

Lots of men think when they hit 40 they are done. Less activity, less workout, less sex. More beer, more reclining chair, more Netflix .THEY ARE KILLING THEMSELVES BY DOING NOTHING. Of course working out takes "big cojones" but the rewards are amazing. The only magic pill is exercise. Im 59 and looking forward to have my best body at 60. Your body and your mind will thank you.

im 40, but how do you get out of the rut with two young kids - less sleep, bad food cravings, less. movement, more work/stress. I know what to do what struggle actioning it...Any tips that have worked for anyone on a lack of sleep - to push through?

Great Information! I am 65 YO and train six days per week. Alway been a beach bum and gym rat, but started with a trainer at age 30 and that made all the difference in the world. After twelve weeks with him I got so many compliments on my physique and felt amazing. Worked with him another six months, and he finally set me on my own. I've not stopped working out for fear of the unknown (LOL). Thanks for what you guys do!

Your advice is excellent. And I've incorporated almost all of these components into my lifestyle. Forty years of working out -- weights, running, military fitness -- lots of injuries -- but at age 57, I am making gains and looking and feeling fit.

I’m 42 and have been vegan for 12 years. Always been a runner but knee issues got me into lifting this past fall. Already up 17 lbs and feel much stronger 👍🏼. Seems like we do much of the same routine as well.

I’m 40. I’ve been doing full body for maybe 5 years now. I’ll keep preaching that forever. I’ve gotten bigger and stronger. Hitting each muscle group every day is good for natural lifters

Not exactly, that schedule could cause over-training. I exercise at least three workouts within a week, but I exercise one body part directly once within a week; except for legs, but for the most part it is within no less than 4 days apart for a muscle-group. At most a body part is exercised once 6, 7 to 9 days; in the past when working out for an almost Heavy Duty method, the muscle-groups were directly exercised up to 11 days.🏋

@@georgeanastasopoulos5865 a lot of people have no idea what overtraining actually is. I’ve been doing this for 5 years. You don’t exhaust the muscles when you do a few sets a day. Your muscles would recover by the next day.

@@steelphantom9105 I’m pretty much on my own beat. I just do what works for me. It takes a long time to understand your body. What works for one person may not work for another. I didn’t start this until maybe 15 years after I started lifting weights. I do switch it up sometimes to accommodate my workout partner. She mostly wants to do legs. So I work with her 3 days a week and do my own thing on the side

I'm 55 years old and still have made a lot of gaines. Agree with everything you said except for the part of working everybody part twice a week. I work everything every 5 to 7 days. Rest is essential for me and recovery. I sometimes incorporate the Mike mentor high intensity. But to each his own. Thank you for the information!

Exactly, I'm 68 next week, one of my goals is to do a 100kilo seated press, so far 93 is my best, 300 lb bench is another goal for this year, I sometimes have 3 days off.

Same Phillip that’s how I train, im 50, sometimes one body part per workout and finish of with some cardio or I walk in the mornings, sometimes il do 2 body parts etc back/bis or chest/tris, legs always on there own, I keep it simple and get good results, I find working out the muscles anymore a week i get joint pains and I start loosing interest.. old school simples works for me.

Great comment. I only make gains when I get two days of rest minimum after working a body part. Joint and ligament pain will kill gains and they are common if you over train over age 50. I have reduced the sets and increased the weight and seen great results. But I always give a body part two days of rest. The only exception is maybe legs, because I believe cardio is good for me and I ride a recumbent bike, elliptical machine, or run at least once a week. Yeah, his advice about high protein is good. And lots of good fat. I keep the carbs low and lots of those are vegetables. No sugar period.

⁠I work out every day, alternating body parts. So every body part gets worked out on a two day cycle, so I get 3.5 full body workouts a week. I eat a strictly whole food plant-based diet with lots of omega-3s and recover very quickly. I'm not sore two days later, ever. I'm 51. It works great for me, I keep getting gains.

Just starting on my fitness journey at 43 yrs old. My #1 biggest issue is SLEEP, I work in the oil field and on night shift, 13 hr shift plus 2 hr drive to and from work. As a crane operator i have lots of down time in my pick up truck. I usually get 2 hrs of sleep, then up for 10-15 mins then about 1 hr of sleep and repeat . I roughly get 6-8 hrs of sleep but it’s intermittent. Now once i do make it home, i sleep until i wake up and that’s usually another 2 hrs of sleep. I know its not optimal rest but I’m hoping it s enough sleep to get me where I want to be, even tho i know it’ll take longer to get there because of my sleep habits.

You are deficient in magnesium (magnesium glycinate) to be more precise. Take that an hour before you hit the sack, it will take a week or so before you see results.

@@henry8920 that may be true but if I have to opportunity to sleep for 6-8 hrs straight, I sleep fine Because of my work and it’s schedule, the 13 hr shift plus 3-4 hrs of driving only gives me 7-8 hrs at home, that would be to sleep,eat and family time. So I sleep at work when I can so I can have more awake time at home

i been training for over a decade . im 29 years old. when i was younger eating more food and training hard definitely helped me jump 10lbs each year with good muscle gains . i took 2 years off and im back on track at a new gym. i need to eat more healthy food like fish . i make my own protein shakes and try to avoid carbs as i am statistically overweight at 225lbs 6'0" 🥺 these are good tips. one of my to go to rules that you are training right is that you are more sleepy often . every one thats been training for a long time knows that it truly is a eat gym sleep repeat type of lifestyle to get them Gains👍🏽

Thanks for the videos, great channel! I would say with a long background.. No matter what science says.. when you turn 50.. you have two options.. full body or bro split.. you are no longer able to train 2x per week.. (15+15 sets) Compound are very important.. I would say SBD 60%..

I just turned 40 and though ive given myself a little gut from my eating....i have found a secret sauce that is working for putting on muscle mass for me: red meat every day (or almost every day), infrequent training (1-2x week), focused training (4-5 exercises), no bicep/tricep specific movements or quad specific movements. Dumbbell pullover Pullup RDLs Incline Dumbbell Chest Press Seated side lateral + 1 walk/jog per week Eat especially high calories (fat/protein) on day of workout and day after). That's what im doing. Works really great for me. Keeps me from injury, gives my body all the nutrients and time to build from my workout, but admittedly I eat a little too much bacon and drink too much sweet drinks.

FINALLY! An over 40/50 muscle-gaining video with some value. But I'd like some brutal honesty. I'm 54, 6 feet tall, 155 pounds. I have a VERY underwhelming physique. I'm stuck in a part of the world that doesn't have a big gym/workout culture. I'm limited to bodyweight exercises and exercise bands. The bands aren't bad, but I'm not adding on much muscle. I've actually lost 13lbs in the past 4 years. . I'm discouraged. Any tips...besides spending three hours a day pushing up, squatting, and hitting the bands?

Try to setup a mechanism to do pull ups, with time you will strengthen ur back muscles - lats, traps. It took me a few months to get to doing pullups, I now can do 8 at a go over a 6 months of effort. I am in my mid forties, am about 10-15 pounds overweight...I do 40 - 50 pullups per day 4-5 days a week.

Use alternative exercises I can’t barbell squat coz of my back so I do hack squats, I’d keep away from barbell squats and deadlifts if you have back and knee issues

Wonderful lecture, and training demonstration! However, from a magazine article of Muscular Development, 1990a issue, human growth hormone from the pituitary gland is still high enough at 30+ years old for muscular development, and a bit of bone for growth to happen. Fortunately I after 29 years old when I went for physiotherapy for my shoulders, I started exercising with mostly weight training from 30, and up to at least 30 years afterward. I reckon that up to very late 30s, maybe 38 years of age, I was able to gain at least 10 solid pounds of muscle; but the first 3 years it may have been up to a gain of 7 to 8 pounds. First year up to age 31 I exercised full body three times a week. Afterward I started a split training routine. Also I gained a couple of pounds more at least up to age 37. Therefore, I am simply saying, and justifying that as time went by the gains in muscle-mass, and strength got less, and slowed down; I gained a couple of more pounds of muscle to the end of my thirties, and end of my forties.🏋

Bla bla...just lift weights with proper form, get a day rest from lifting but you can do some mild cardio like biking or jogging, get enough sleep, don't over eat and eat a lot of proteïn. Be consistent . just try that for a year.

I find myself in the unfortunate position of being both poor AF and suffering from a chronic arm injury that affects my ability to grip and hold (the biggest issue I face, keeping me from being able to hold weights and bands). Having just turned 40 and having been fit at least once in my life, I WANT to get back into shape, but I need to know how to work around my injury because, as far as I understand it, it's not going away.

I jacked up my shoulder last year and working out at a "body building" gym was no longer for me. I cancelled that, got a $10 Planet Fitness membership, and have used mainly machines ever since. It's worked for me and I've been able to use machines to work around my shoulder issues. Hopefully there's a Planet Fitness or other cheap gym option near you with adequate machines.👍

Anyone else notice that in all the weightlifting videos that talk about diet and sleep you never see a significant other or kids around and waking them up or eating the food they prepare? It would be very easy to do this stuff when single but not so much when married with kids. I would like to see something (pics) with what is considered good gains\losses after maybe 6 months, year, etc so I can compare myself to them and see if my muscle gains and fat losses are going at a good rate. Too many pics\vids make it seem like you do this or that and after 6 weeks you go from 30%+ body fat down to 15% and you can be built like Arnold.

When I was younger I dreamed of being freakishly jacked without steroids. I was doing pretty good however I have given up since then. I'm now 40 and ready to get started again but I'm worried that I'm too old.

Man that sleep thing. When I DONT work out, ill sleep 7 to 8, he'll all day. When I DO work out, I can't get past 6 hours. Litirally, I'm ready to bound out of bed and have energy all day.

Everybody says 1 gm/lb of body weight. Why do we need a gram of protein for a pound of fat? Shouldn't it be 1 gm per pound of LEAN body weight?

It's NOT the higher "fat" levels that directly increase T, it's the cholesterol in the fat that get converted to T.

You keep saying per lb a day (protein intake) but the papers you show on screen say kg a day. That’s a huge difference. ??

There is way too much free information online to hire a personal trainer I am almost 40 and I was completely out of shape I got online and looked up a kid's meal plan and should workout routine six months later I'll look like a god lol
