Muse's musicianship is always second to none, but they are truly special when they perform live - undoubtedly one of the greatest live bands of all time. I read that Bellamy wrote this for his fiancee at the time, which makes the inclusion of the aria that much more beautiful to me. I imagine him touring the world and yearning to be with her. That yearning feels so strong in both parts. You don't feel emotions like that in many songs these days.

When Metallica were beginning to make a name for themselves they started touring as opening act for Guns 'n' Roses, and very soon GnR grew to dislike having to follow such an incredible band. Years later the same thing happened to Metallica themselves, and the band they hated following was Muse. They are far and away the best live band I've ever seen, and I've seen some of the greatest bands of the last generation, including Pearl Jam, Metallica, Foo fighters, Tool, QOTSA, System of a Down, RHCP and a whole lot more. They're not my favourite band of all time but they are my favourite live band of all time, I've never seen an act perform so well and make a crowd roll like waves for an entire set. It's a memory I will never forget.

Matt Bellamy is an incredible pianist, yes! He also plays beautiful pieces during the live concerts, so he doesn't only play on the recordings. And as a song writer he loves to draw from classical music and to incorporate it in some way into his songs. Another example is the exogenesis symphony from the same album. The Resistance as a whole is full of very theatrical and classical influenced songs.

Thank you so much for this review! I listened to this lp for about a year straight on repeat just trying to understand it when it came out. Phenomenal record. There’s a version of the song Micro Cuts on the HAARP live album/DVD that I highly recommend. Also, Falling Down off of the Showbiz lp is a vocal masterpiece for the pain and struggle you hear in Matt’s voice, not live though. It’s not necessarily virtuosic in any way, just beautifully gut wrenching. You made a lot of people very happy with this video.

Oh, how brilliant you found Muse through this song. Your life will be happier from now on ... they have nine studio albums now and you got a song from their fifth one, The Resistance. I'd recommend you to just listen to this masterpiece of an album as a whole. It has a whole three-piece symphony on it, and I think it has the most references to classical music. Matthew Bellamy, the singer, is also the songwriter, pianist and guitarist. The bassist, Chris Wolstenholme, and the drummer, Dominic Howard, are outstanding musicians, too. They've been making me happy ever since I heard them for the first time 22/23 years ago. (The song was called Unintended, also just ❤❤❤) They do various styles of music, each album has a slightly or very different sound from the others. Hope you're gonna love them!

So glad you like the song, I'm a muse fan for more than 20 years😁I recommend a song called"new born" to you, it rocks more than this one, but the piano at the beginning of the song was what drived me to learn piano and listen to all other kinds of music, before that I only listened to rock, I even hated any instruments besides guitar, bass and drums...I was too silly as a teenager...till this day the song still one of my favourites, if not my absolute favourite.

Over their albums they have written so many different styles of music, but if this is your thing and you like the more classical element (Matt Bellamy is a fantastic composer) then I would highly recommend listening to Exogenisis symphony. It's is split in to three parts but listened too together it's just incredible!!! All very classically influenced with superb orchestral melodies and stunning vocals from Matt!! You also happen to react to one of their least popular songs of all time. Now if you were to react to their masterpieces like Space Dementia, Endlessly, Screenager. Your views will explode. These songs are very odd and potent, it would be interesting to hear your analysis. They have classical influences among others. Then Radiohead - There, There. All of these have great reaction moments.
