It's really just lewd Taiko tbh.
(Also, I was just informed that you can apparently buy the packs separately on mobile, but this video only concerns the Steam version)

As someone nearing 300 hours in this game with a handful of [10] 100%s, I'd like to also add: There's a bug with holds where, if you notate on the opposite side at the end of the hold, it can result in you being prematurely thrown from the hold, getting greats. Hold bug is pretty well known in the community and has been in the game for a very long time. Devs thought they fixed it, it has not been fixed. Since the most recent update, the Muse Radio pack (I think Best One has the same background), has somehow offset one type of boss attack (the candies), but only on the bottom line. Up is still fine, down is... Weird. Despite this, nothing else has been affected in that matter. ??? In the master chart of Shinsou Masui, there is a hold that starts at the same time as the boss rushing you. if you treat this as a double note (gemini) as what is visually intended, the hold takes priority and the boss hits you anyway, forcing the player to have to plink a up/down notation which also doesn't work consistently enough to guarantee the Perfects, let alone Full Combo. There are a lot of other charts (like Aqua Stars Master) that are not charted to the rhythm of the song. Off-beat notes are sometimes missing or placed in awkward parts, making you have to play the same song a handful of times or using the Autoplay character and listening to the hit sound to find what the song is asking of the player. This can be very tedious when your offset is sitting at 50+, like yours being at 98, as the hit sounds do not match the beat of the song, forcing the player to adjust back 'n' forth. Re: Scoring. There are some situations where the player is forced to deliberately get late and early perfects in order to snag extra notes at the end of fever windows. This might just be a personal frustration, but when I'm being asked to deliberately play out-of-time to min/max, the rhythm aspect of the game is kinda ruined for me. On a similar note, there are sometimes where a certain character choice requires deliberate greats in order to survive, due to an HP drain mechanic that's paused on holds, meaning if you want to chase leaderboards, you have to sacrifice the 100%, although the song selection shows your best acc and best score, this is definitely a pet peeve. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Although this game may have some issues, one thing it nails down is the music. The soundtrack in this game is one of my favorites out of all the rhythm games with licensed music. Especially when is comes to the DLC music. You’ll find lots of BMS music just solid music all around. And for licensed rhythm game standards, the price for all of the DLC is actually pretty good. Also, I noticed you said the DLC packs can’t be bought individually, which may be true for the PC version. But at least for the iOS version, you can buy each back individually, although it’s a worse deal than buying all of the DLC in one purchase. I do agree with a lot of the criticism though and I personally don’t play the game too much as well.

Personally I find muse dash to be a very fun rhythm game and it's sort of a change from what I usually play. (I usually play osu, 1100 hours, rank 35k, and over 16000 SS ranks) I also completed adofai and most of rhythm doctor. What I like about muse dash is the songs and the art. I bought the DLC today and I count on playing every single song at least once. So basically I think muse dash is just a normal rhythm game

Uncultured lmao Ok seriously it's sucks that you need to play hard first to unlock the master difficulty, i really hope that there's a system that automatically unlocks master diff after reaching certain skill ceiling. And you can indeed buy individual packs if you play it on mobile version (yes it's originally a mobile game). But i don't know how comfortable you with playing on mobile devices. Also i do think the main spices of the level are in dlc, because there's a lot of harder levels especially on give up treatment packs. Or if you on casual moods there's alot genuinely fun levels too. If you don't get what i'am saying in last paragraph dlc are fucking worth it and i'm surprised they're able to license such songs

The game is technically as lewd as the skins/loading screens you choose to enable. You can play this game without lewd content. Sadly, I have to agree about the scoring system, but apart from that, I think that you might have been a little harsh on this game, buying the DLC gives you a lifetime of song packs without any extra cost and I think that what you get initially for your three bucks is really generous

There's a checkbox in the bottom left corner that tells you whether or not they're on the "random list" which is your loading screens. However, the character results screen isn't something you can change. Eg. Maid Marija is pretty modest on the select screen, but the results screen is very in-your-face, as shown in Etienne's vid.

Honestly, I feel you need to buy the DLC to get the full experience -- Judging the game based on the initial content, of course, it is a bit lacking, but I feel that is probably because the base content is meant to be like a cheap trial of sorts. The DLC content adds a ton, with a huge variety of skill levels present, and the hardest songs are all in the DLC (so are the easiest too, kinda? It's weird.). Not a single 10 star, let alone 11 star is in the base game. Recommend checking out something like Punai Punai Senso for a great example of what this game really has to offer in terms of interesting and challenging gameplay. A lot of very interesting technical shit in terms of charting only is in that dlc unfortunately. It's.. not a perfect game, absolutely, and a lot of features are absolutely lacking, but when it comes to song selection and difficulty it ain't really fair to just only review the base trial that is the initial game. The initial price is only 3 dollars for a reason after all I'd say. The business model here is kinda interesting really. Gives the player a taste of what you get then makes the rest cost more -- but considering how the DLC has 10x the amount of content of the base game, I'd say it is absolutely worth it costing 10x more. Do hope they add a lot of the lacking features though sometime though yeah tbh

Gonna leave some notes that I've found after playing the game for a while 1. About difficulty. The base songs aren't too challenging, however there are quite a hefty amount of challenging 10/11s. The packs with the hardest songs are the "Give Up Treatment" packs, Cytus collab pack, Groove coaster collab pack, and HARDCORE TANO*C, with some of the hardest stuff being ouroboros, Freedom Dive, kyouki ranbu, etc. 2. About leaderboards. I agree fully on your points, however experimentation is basically not needed. The best muse + elfin combination is devil Marija + lilith by FAR, since it gives you 30% more score for perfects, at the cost of playing with HP drain. 99% of the leaderboard uses this combination. 3. Afaik theres twice as more paid songs as there are free songs, which helps with the dry selection. 4. I know this has been answered already, but you can buy dlc packs separately 5. There are hidden charts to some of the songs, which are much harder than their master counterparts. All of them except freedom dive are unlocked by clicking the master difficulty multiple times. The game has a hint for how to unlock freedom dive hidden, so I won't spoil it.

While $30 is a lot compared to the price of free unlimited community made maps from mania and taiko, they really are just pricing DLC accordingly to other mobile rhythm games. In fact you get a much better deal since it's $30 for cool BMS songs and you get all future DLC as well. To put into perspective I've spent about $70 on Arcaea just to get all songs and I still need to pay more for future song packs and an egregious case of song monetisation can be seen in Cytus 2

I pretty much agree with most of what you said, except I enjoy the game much more than you did as this game was an introduction to rhythm games for me and still is the only one I played. Thus I didn't mind the unlocking of master difficulty by playing on hard first, which if I wasn't able to do, so would be the case with master. The overall slower pace with unlocking characters was also fine by me, I don't feel like it took too long, I got them all before I was even able to get to the leaderboard. The leaderboard can be a little demotivating at times if you just want to play with your favorite character/elfin and then you find out your score is way too low. The whole scoring system is an interesting aspect of the game, however, as you need to figure out the optimal way to play a song. You can just train the song and then switch to the right character, so it isn't that big of an issue. The price of the base game is pretty generous considering how many hours I've put into it, so even if I find the DLC pricey, it would be worth it for me in a long run as the songs are expected to be played multiple times. I see that for the experienced players there isn't that much content in the base game, but as a person who likes achieving a perfect accuracy and then goes for the perfect score, I find myself replaying levels for dozens of times, which my playtime reflects pretty well (140 h). Considering I don't have previous experience with rhythm games and that my brain just doesn't want to move my fingers the way they need to tap (on 9+ levels), I would highly appreciate training levels or an option to slow down the songs to figure out and train the patterns. I often find myself chaotically pressing all the buttons hoping for hits when I am not able to process what I see which makes it impossible to get perfect accuracy. I personally don't find the lewd aspects of the game negative at all, it is there and it doesn't disturbs me, so why not. The artwork is pretty cute, which makes sense as the whole game is more visual than other games in the genre from what I saw. Over all, I thing this game is good for people used to other casual games who want to ry a rhythm game that plays well and is also pretty to look at. There are also quite a few challenging level for experienced players, but most of those are behind a second paywall (aka DLC) and it takes some grinding if they want to get to the leaderboard.

I'm someone who actually really likes the anime aesthetic and soundtrack (don't really care about the lewd part) but for me, the difficulty really shot it in the foot. I'm someone who looks at a rhythm game and asks "What is the skill floor and ceiling? How difficult does it get?" because I'm someone who wants to be able to spend time working towards a goal, and this game is so easy that I was able to pass the 10-11 star songs on my first or second try, and maybe after a day after getting used to the game, getting S on everything.

I'm really surprised how Etienne had zero comments about how the projectiles from the bosses are designed in this game. I was expecting some criticism of how they are barely readable on higher levels because of how much less reading field they have compared to the normal projectiles, and it could've been a way better mechanic if scroll speed was a thing which could scale down all the distances between all the projectiles (and yes even the hammer/raiders or whatever animations can also be slowed down but still able to match the BPM of the song). This would mean that people could still be playing the same song but the emphasis is now placed on how well they can hit the patterns with their own skill rather than whether they can endure the rather illogical mechanics of things being barely readable.

I play rhythm games all of the time. I'm a hardcore fan of the genre. This is one of my favorite rhythm games in a long time! The song list is fantastic, the concept is unique, the gameplay and hit sounds are engaging and fun, the presentation is gorgeous! It isn't perfect but I feel like 4/10 is extremely harsh! I think it's obvious a lot of effort is going into this game. And the fact that a single purchase of $30 has given players free content for now over 2 years and still counting is quite generous!
@malox7176
@malox7176 3 жыл бұрын
Disclaimer: I haven't played the game but watched some people play it. I don't think 4/10 is too harsh. For an advanced players of the genre there are definitely some more questionable design decisions as outlined in the video(Mainly the grindyness). There doesn't seem to be a huge variety of genre i.e metal, pop, jazz, rap, classical. (correct my if I'm wrong). I wouldn't call the concept "unique" because it's taiko no tatsujin with some gimmicks. The art is pretty good but that doesn't make a fun game. Also it's hard to justify a 30$ price tag when there are rhythm games with tons of community made content. (osu!taiko/mania, Etterna, Stepmania)
@livinlikeeli6785
@livinlikeeli6785 3 жыл бұрын
@@malox7176 admittedly the game is a big grinding in terms of unlocking Master difficulty. Everything else though I disagree with in regards to what you're saying. The game actually does have quite a few genres of representation here. As someone who has played every song in the game I can safely say that while there is a lot of anime style music here there is still plenty of representation in regards to EDM, techno, pop, Etc. The song list is actually a highlight for many quite honestly. Sure, the concept itself isn't entirely brand new. But the means of fighting enemies and bosses in your path on the beat to the song using a two-lane system is really cool. You're not banging drums but you're actually fighting enemies and bosses which makes it different enough in my opinion to Warrant it as unique. And sure, other games do have Community made content. But that doesn't mean I won't spend $50 on djmax or spend money on groove coasters DLC. I justify the price on the merit of what the content is offering. And with over 200 songs and Counting, Muse Dash has a fantastic song selection that I think justifies its price. Djmax Respect is $50 and has 160 songs. Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory is $60 and has 140 songs. Muse Dash is $30 and has 200+ songs. Not that the other games are bad, but to just highlight the absurdity of calling $30 for over 200 songs with continuous free updates non justifiable! Especially when as I said, the soundtrack is a highlight for the game that I implore you to try yourself!

It looks crazy when you're not playing it, but when I actually got it and played it, it becomes really easy to read.

This is why I play muse with a PlayStation contoller, (minus me being a project diva player) but being able to play high star maps with my thumbs instead of my keyboard just gives me a sence of challenge that diva, osu, taiko can't give me (Small disclamer I play diva with a arcade styled controller, yeah the one with the massive facebuttons that are the size of a hand)

I hate any rhythm game that has its scores influenced by anything other than how well you do on the chart in its original form, which is the primary reason i don't play this or osu, as i don't want some weird characters or "Difficulty modifiers" in order to be on the leaderboards, i just want to play the song good.

This looks fun, but very visually noisy. I struggled to play "Project Diva" because it felt too chaotic and this unfortunately looks similarly flawed.

I honestly feel like you not getting the dlc you're missing a lot of the thing that makes this game good cause I generally didnt enjoy the basic pack. I think what you said over all with this game like the scoring and the lewd stuff I agree with. I also got the dlc when it was 20 bucks and the game was free but with the new updates the songs and chart have gotten a lot better so.

Pretty much what I expected. Wouldn't seem like something any more serious rhythm gamer would play. I think it was mainly for weebs or vtuber fans coming from their hololive collab
