This was cut from the Anime, but in the novel the deciding factor on what made Zenith forgive Paul & Lilia was actually Rudeus's anxiety of losing his new family. Rudeus tried to pin the blame on Paul, as shown in the Anime. But Zenith saw through his lie easily. But she also noticed his worried expression and it was that that immediately got her to forgive them. Zenith is an amazing character. One of the best of the series. _"Still…from Rudy’s words and the expression on his face, I could see what he was really feeling, deep down inside."_ _"He was afraid. Terrified his family was going to break apart."_ _"The moment I realized that, I finally understood that he did love us in his own way. And I wanted nothing more than to reassure him. My anger softened. I managed to bring myself to forgive both Paul and Lilia on the spot."_

In the book they slapped him on the back of the head. He had a THIRD go after he called Rudeus a playboy.

Rudy didn't beat up the bullies, he hit them with water balls and they casually walked away rather than deal with someone who can use magic. They didn't even view him as enough of a threat to run from.

Rudeus annoyed the bullies to the point that they got tired of dealing with him. Then one of them was lame enough to tattle.

Their culture forbids sex with pregnant women, for the perceived safety of the unborn child. Last time Paul had to go through that dry spell, he was taking Zenith to Asura (imagine going by car from Calcutta to Munich), but this time he was idle and the village and the house had pretty and available ladies. He folded within a month of her pregnancy. The girls were born on the same day, though. Lilia gave birth immediately after assisting with Zenith. Norn's birth was complicated as a breech birth and Aisha's was premature. "Is he throwing him under the bus?" No. Rudeus got a bus driver's license, rented a bus and a track, tied Paul to the track, and did a full tournament circuit over him. But after the meeting he did go and confess that he lied. Zenith was expecting something like this would happen, but instead of leaving him as planned, she couldn't break the family they'd built. Paul's experiences in school were overall negative. He was ostracized and he pretty much skipped every class except swordsmanship training. And yes, he bedded pretty much every girl there. He became a womanizer on his 10th birthday, after all. That duel scared the hell out of Paul, since Rudeus managed to resist and avoid him for so long. If he'd been in a party, Paul would've been toast. When it comes to Ghislaine (and Paul, for that matter), the "class" is that of swordsman/swordswoman. A warrior is its own class, a fighter who doesn't follow one of the three schools of swordsmanship. The three schools give access to specific abilities and techniques, like that dash Paul executed against Rudeus being the Sword God Style technique Longsword of Silence, which he followed up with a Water God Style parry and deflection.

Its just a cultural belief that existed until not too long ago só of course people would believe it in medieval age.

One thing that really goes unmentioned in the anime is despite Paul beating Rudy in the duel at the end of the episode, Rudy actually humiliated Paul in this fight. The reason: Rudy made Paul take 4 steps to beat him. In this world mages are at such a disadvantage to swordsmen that ordinarily in a duel between swordsmen and mages of equal stature in their respective fields a swordsman should be able to defeat the mage in 1 step, maybe 2 depending on the distance. But Rudy made Paul take 4 - and after Rudy was gone Zenith and Lilia endlessly and mercilessly mocked Paul for his performance in this fight.

In the novel we had more insight into why Paul decided to send Rudeus away. First of all Sylphie was developing a very unhealthy codependent relationship towards Rudy, to the point that even her parents started to grow anxious because she would take more into consideration Rudeus word/actions over her own parents. And her father expressed these concerns to Paul, so when Rudeus came to him with the job request he saw the perfect opportunity to separate the two so that Sylphie could grow into an independent person. There’s also more details as to why he did it but I’ll spare those for later

1:27 I mean, Paul is kinda a bad parent. But he's not a terrible parent and he is trying to be the best parent he can be and is able to learn from his mistakes and improve. So, Paul and Lilia have some history. It's not spoilers because it never comes up in the anime, but Lilia's dad ran the swordfighting school Paul went to as a kid. Also, she used to be a swordswoman, and worked as a bodyguard before an injury to her leg made her incapable of fighting, so she took a job as a maid for a knight guarding a small village in the countryside, who just so happened to have been the man who took her virginity at the school, Paul.

I enjoy that your take on the show and how you don't just write Rudy off as an asshole or such. I feel like something that other people are missing is that, do any of us really know what it's like to be a virgin at 30 or 40 something and it's not by choice? I'm not sure everyone realizes how much that could mess with someone. Just think about how much people would complain after a month or a year
