It's a story of a girl(Enna but not Enna) who is slowly taken over by depression. Through the story you can observe a girl who is slowly getting corrupted by mushrooms. (in Japanese culture, mushrooms are a sign of depression). You can see that her dress is slowly getting dirty and you can see her hat starting to grow some mushrooms. You can see her hugging another girl (Millie for image sake). I think it is a sign of accepting someone's help. The same with the Aloupeeps who are gathering beside her trying to give her comfort. At 04:32, the Aloupeeps turn into mushrooms and the music and imagery starts to get wilder. To my understanding, it's something like what ifs, what if she didn't accept any help, what if there was no one to help and support the girl. It's also about finding ways to 'cure' it, yourself, self-medicating and falling into a spiral of addiction, because you will always need more and more to try and recreate the feeling of that first high that was such a rush of fake positivity and euphoria. That becomes a chore, itself, and the person suffering knows only emptiness until they can intoxicate themselves into that fake euphoria, again. When that high is gone, the brain urges the person to regain that rush, that excitement, that substance which brings in a flood of false positivity. The person truly becomes trapped within a vicious cycle of their own mind's machinations and continues to decline. Without support and/or without the will to, that cycle will never be broken and it ends in the worst way. With this work of art not only bringing these issues to light with lyrics that perfectly depict this aspect of mental illness, but it also being a fundraiser for an organization that strives to help people, it's truly a performative piece that will result in people in need getting help. (Btw I havent seen the Mushroom: Behind the Scenes stream, and yes ill watch it right after I'm done writing this!) Aight so first of all I loved this song, it felt very dreamy like and the vid itself was super fitting for the type of "vibe" it was giving off. Though I won't lie while I was watching it I noticed a familiar pattern, so because I have nothing else to do I will shizo rant about my theory of the lore of the vid (if it even has one), so lets begin: Basically what I saw was a specific Mushroom being shown (mostly in 4:33 and the fellows around enna and even the outfit), this type of Mushroom being known as Amanita muscaria other wise known as the Fly Agaric. This specific type of Mushroom gives off many different effects when consumed but the main one being (and I will list them off the site I found it in): Dream like effects, Dizziness, Visual distortions, loss of balance, Sensation of Macropsia or Micropsia (fancy word for thing look super big to you or super small) and last but not least temporary agitation and depression of your nervous system (there's many more effects but these are the ones that sorta prove my point). Now you may be asking yourself, why is he mentioning all of this? Well because in the video we see these exact things going on, even the song implies consuming these Mushrooms. The reason why I think this is so is because of this Enna trying to reach/make contact with Mille one more time, and how does she do it? Via consuming these Mushrooms of course! And from what I can tell it's very clear this Enna is addicted to them, and we also see the after effects of the consumption at 4:05, it also seems that her consuming these Mushrooms are no secret to the area she lives in due to the lines in the song saying "Magical Mushroom, don't be concerned, though our affair is no secret". Now onto why this consumption of the Fly Agaric is happening, I have a lot of theories about it: (Maybe?) 1: Mille in this world was taken away by someone or even married, I base this off the line of "Ever since a friend had thrown a Bouquet" (The act of throwing a Bouquet being one thats normally done in a marriage to wish the couple good luck) then after Mille leaving Enna found the Mushroom and started consuming it and I base it off the next part of the line in the same segment being "I have known that we were meant for a mutual fate" (3:11) (the sadder one, maybe?) 2: Enna uses these Mushrooms as a way of escaping her reality. In honesty there is no evidence but usually the use of this Mushroom is to "destress" or even escape their current situation. And the Aloupeeps and Mille are just a thing in her imagination, I base this off the Aloupeeps being shown as mushrooms for a second. You can also take the Mille eyes being crossed out as a "She isnt really real" or like my other theory, that she is dead. (3:45) (4:29) (Likely) 3: Mille is dead, and Enna uses the Mushroom as a way to see her again. For the most part there is nothing implied to it, but you could make that assumption based off the scene where Mille is shown with her eyes crossed out. (typically a way to imply that someone is dead.) (Maybe?) 4: It's just a silly song about addiction, and thats it. (Most probable) 5: Enna found silly mushroom in the forest (apperently being led by them), and then consuming it (OR it could have been her walking around the forest, and getting hungry then she found the first mushroom, and ate it due to her being very hungry.) The silly mushroom following theory is because of the into of the song of her being led by them and even the description of the song literally being "Wandering the forest, a girl is drawn toward the seductive allure and deceptive promise of the magical mushrooms. The duality of magic and madness combined; is this a path to doom or delight?". (Most unlikely sorta) 6: This entire song is a repeating story. This is due to the first "consumption" being at 1:28. then later her waking up at night (after tripping like no other being has) and then consuming it again after walking around for a bit at 2:45, the never ending loop part is because of the very start at 0:00 to 0:40 and the ending being the exact same area at 5:27 to 5:41. (This being a very very bad addiction ngl) In general what I take from it is that this may or may not be a story bout addiction, and how someone could maybe experience this in a way (seeing the stuff as their only good escape and even their light in their world) while its very clearly bad. So kids never do drugs! (fr tho the story boarding of this and the pretty effects and even the news paper esthetic that made it look like a dream like thingy is so cool, not to mention how awesome the singing was and how the lyrics made sense in the video. 10/10 song will listen to it again)

i just LOVE the lyrics man either magic or madness can rekindle the flame, THEN she burns in sorrow or sadness for feeding the light (flame). i think this alludes to how the mc copes with sadness to something really dangerous that sacrifices herself, her sanity. also magic=madness, im not sure what this means but i think it's like, if a person suffers and really wishes to get out of the situation it doesn't matter for them if it's good¿(magic) or just become delulu (madness) but, magic, eitherway, is not real. so like it doesn't matter cause both are going to 'rekindle the flame' which will harm her anyway. maybe im wrong but i like to think otherwise.

I've been in complete awe at this for a day. It starts somewhat confusingly lighthearted only to increase in tension and ominosity. I like timestamping so... By 1:27 the visuals give me such a tense feeling, this and various other parts of the song would make me shiver a lot. There's so much detail put into it. By 2:08 the filtered sounds and the ticking, like it's unceasingly moving towards something bad and seemingly unavoidable. By 3:19 I see our beloved character completely giving herself away... giving us a moment of calm and a feeling of hope that starts rapidly fading away by 3:36, where the tension keeps rising and rising to a max at 3:49 just for the release to come in 3:51. I love this release so much, I have no idea how you guys came up with that bassy sound but it's at this point, with the hug, where I almost burst into tears if I didn't hold back. By 3:55 a lonely piano plays as the visuals show us our beloved character lonely, sad and lost. Isolated, possibly oblivious to the support and love of the people around her, or maybe in a moment of clarity. By 4:30 the tension returns like a hammer, and the insanity continues. By 4:50 Enna's voice fills us with emotion, a dark one, despair. Even with a small distortion at 4:56 which fits the theme so well. By 5:25 we come back to our beloved character sleeping and an uncertain future. Let's hope she can get all the help and support that is needed. On another note, for people struggling with mental illness, shame, isolation and distrust play a big role. I hope people can see this video and take the message with understanding and respect, and that it may help create conscience around the topic. 🙏

The message itself is pretty complex for me to figure out everything too xD There are a lot different meanings here but basically the one important message she tries to convey & express here (from what she has experienced in her life) is that “many people have lost themselves, because they sacrificed so much of themselves” (such as substance abuse (druggs), have an obsession over something...etc. In this case its the mushroom 🍄 ) Btw u can listen to the whole Bridge where she said for example “Trading my ear with your symphony Your scenery with the sight of my eyes”......etc. Enna wanted her lyricist to transmit these messages in the most poetic way as well as childish, fairytale-like. Seeing the MV though really brought home to me the themes of the song.
