I found this voice so soothing on a Friday afternoon after a long week of work. lol ... now how do I get the audio from the ipad going through my mixer and studio monitors? Am i stuck using the headphone jack on the ipad?
@Musiah
@Musiah 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks for your kind feedback on my voice :) Re your question, iPads are indeed somewhat limited in this regard. I'd avoid Bluetooth as it will cause latency. Gaming headphones (non-Bluetooth) are good as there is no noticeable latency, but that's really only an alternative to connecting to your studio setup. Using the headphone jack is your best option but this still requires careful consideration. I found a good article here that may help you: www.behindthemixer.com/how-to-get-audio-from-an-ipad/

Hi, and thanks for your kind feedback. To be honest, that's almost a question for Apple since they are hell-bent on the unhelpful practice of removing every socket / port possible. I'm not an expert on this, but if I were trying to achieve the same as you, I'd be looking at non-Bluetooth wireless gaming headphones / speakers. I say non-Bluetooth because Bluetooth causes a latency (delay) of around 150ms. A good example of wireless (non-Bluetooth) gaming headphones that we have tested with Musiah piano lessons is the Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum. They use radio waves as opposed to Bluetooth with no noticeable latency. Hope this helps.

Musiah Thank you so much. That does help. And I agree, I don’t understand Apple’s removal of other ports. I never liked the removal of the headphone jack. Makes no sense to me. And I’ll look into a non blue tooth solution. Thank you for the recommendations! Be well and safe, my friend!

Many thanks for your kind feedback :) Re an app that will write / transcribe the notes as you play, it depends on the kind of project / tasks you want it for. I used Finale to prepare the sheet music for the Musiah app and found it quite good. A google search using the term "apps that write music as you play" brings up a list of others that may suit you better depending on your needs. Hope this helps.

Hi and thanks for your kind feedback. Basically, any cable / adapter / combination that can physically make the connection should work. If you can get such a cable, great. Hello I have a question Using a converter without energy supply can affect the performance of the app on the phone when using a midi keyboard with energy supply Thank you for your vídeo
@Musiah
@Musiah 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's correct. While I have not personally used a phone with a MIDI keyboard as I believe the screen too small to be practical, a similar issue arises when connecting MIDI keyboards to iPads. As described in this article, if your MIDI keyboard does not have its own power supply, you basically need an adapter that will let you connect both your iPad / phone to a power socket and your MIDI keyboard simultaneously. Hope this helps: www.musiah.com/articles/equipment-tips/how-to-connect-midi-keyboard-to-ipad-with-cables.html

Very well said... Merry Xmas... Just one question... I just bought the I pad pro 256g 2019... I also bought from the apple on 5th avenue the hatechi usbc multiport pro adaptor (usb.a 3.0, usb c, SD card reader , hdmi4k).. Would that be able to connect my iPad with my piano keyboards (both of them have USB midi slot and USB device slot..) or should I buy sth else??? To make the connection work...
@Musiah
@Musiah 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks for your question. Most likely it will work, though I have not yet personally tried this adaptor so I can't be 100% sure. That said, I'd be surprised if it didn't work. (If it doesn't work, please let me know). As a fallback method, you could try connecting your MIDI keyboard to your iPad pro using Bluetooth. Instructions on how to do this can be viewed here: www.musiah.com/articles/videos/how-to-videos/connect-midi-keyboard-to-ipad-bluetooth.html. (These instructions apply to the Musiah app but would be similar for other Bluetooth compatible MIDI apps). Hope this helps :)
@jmbbstrat84
@jmbbstrat84 4 жыл бұрын
Musiah it seems that everything on the multiport is working..except from the type c slot that in normal conditions it would support the power supply/charging....so in other words I can use the usb slot for a midi connection or to read a usb flash stick but it seems that I can’t charge the I-pad at the same time for some reason ...I have a message that says ‘’not charging’’!!!!
@Musiah
@Musiah 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting me know. Perhaps for a cable connection, an adapter like this one (www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MUF82ZA/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter) might be more straight-forward, though again, I have not tested any of these newer adapters with the iPad Pro yet as I use Bluetooth. Perhaps I should buy a couple to test and report my findings in a video specifically for iPad Pro.

@Musiah

Hi Mick, you can certainly connect the Yamaha PSR-6700 to a computer using the methods in this video. I'm not personally familiar with the Samsung Tab 3 or Tab 10 (Android OS) but I do believe it would be possible to connect a MIDI keyboard to these, assuming you have suitable cables, or possibly the connection could be made by Bluetooth. Unfortunately, I can't offer more detailed advice on this as I mainly have experience with PC, Mac or iPad.

Can I use a printer to lightning cable even for keyboards that don’t have their own power supply?
@Musiah
@Musiah 5 жыл бұрын
For connecting to an iPad, unfortunately no. An iPad on its own does not have enough energy to power itself plus a MIDI keyboard. In this case, what you need is an adapter that can power both the iPad and your MIDI keyboard, such as the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter. Alternatively, if you have a PC or Mac, you could connect your keyboard to the computer just using a USB 2.0 (printer) cable as the computer will have enough power to run the keyboard. Hope this helps :)

How would you recommend I connect a midi keyboard with only a MIDI OUT (and no MIDI IN) port to a Macbook?
@Musiah
@Musiah 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bert, I'd use a regular MIDI-to-USB cable. At the back of your keyboard, you only need to connect the plug for the MIDI Out port. The plug for the MIDI In port you can just leave dangling. This means that your MIDi data (the notes you play) will only be broadcast in one direction, but that's all you need with a MIDI app such as Musiah (for example) as all the action takes place within the app. Hope this helps :)

Is there any other affordable way I can connect my iphone to my digital piano though usb withough the iPad Camera Connection Kit?
@Musiah
@Musiah 4 жыл бұрын
I don't have an iPhone so I can't say for sure. If your digital piano has Bluetooth built-in, you could use that method to connect. Failing that, you would need a specific cable to suit both your keyboard and your phone, in which case, the most affordable option would probably be to get the iPad camera connection kit. Hope this helps.

How to give a line out if it doesnt have a 3.5mm input?that too with a wired usb midi connection???
@Musiah
@Musiah 5 жыл бұрын
That's tricky, but you may not need to. For example, if you are using your MIDI keyboard with a MIDI application such as Musiah, the sound will come from the virtual instruments within the app (i.e. you'll hear the sound on your computer / iPad speakers). If you really need a line out from your keyboard and there is no 'headphone' jack, then unfortunately you may need to change keyboards. Hope this helps :)

I just googled your keyboard and it has USB to Host which is a port for USB output to a computer or iPad, so yes, it can be connected using a standard USB 2.0 cable. At the other end of the cable, you'll need an adapter / connecter to connect the cable to the iPad. This will vary depending on the model of iPad. It is June 2020. These days good Keyboard controllers costing around $200 are almost entirely USB. Later this summer I'm planning to get a USB interface, a MOTU M4. 4 inputs, 4 outputs. And I'd like to plug in a USB Keyboard (thinking about a Native Instruments A49) into one of the other USB ports. I'm hoping they will work in perfect sync together. Upon using a MIDI track on the DAW software, controlled by the keyboard, I'm hoping that the sounds will flow into the USB interface which will monitor the Audio....anyone else done this?

Thanks for your question. There are actually two keyboards. The one you see most of the time on the table behind me is an M-Audio KeyRig 49 (a basic MIDI controller which just has a USB port). There's also a shot of a rear panel of a keyboard showing MIDI In / Out ports and a USB-to-Host port... that keyboard is a Roland fantom xa. Hope this helps :)

Can I use (powered keyboard) instead of the crazy expensive camera kit, just a female to female usb-adaptar or a female-usb to printer-usb and connect with my standard lightning to usb-male cable? Or does it have to be the camerakit from apple?
@Musiah
@Musiah 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Michiel, with a powered keyboard, you can use any of the Apple adapters, though I understand they are expensive. If you have some other cables or adapters, you can certainly try them and they may work, but sometimes non-Apple adapters don't work. For this reason, I always recommend an Apple branded option as they almost always work. Hope this helps.

Hello Sir, to connect powered Yamaha Keyboard(with only 5 pin DIN midi port) to ipad via Yamaha UX16 midi interface should I use lightning to usb camera adapter(non powered) or lightning to usb 3 camera adapter(powered) (shown at 2.27 of this video) ? It says Ux 16 interface draws power from from the usb.
@Musiah
@Musiah 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Vineeth, that is a very interesting question. Basically, MIDI-to-USB cords draw very little power, so an iPad will almost certainly have enough juice to power the cord. I don't have a UX16 to test, but I have a similar MIDI-to-USB cord that I tried with a usb camera adapter just now and it worked for me. So in summary, you can use either adapter and it should work. Hope this helps :)

Hi Sabine, sorry to hear you're struggling a bit. First, your message had some typos in it, so just to clarify... my understanding is that you want to know how to set up the keyboard so that it will recognize the iPad (if I'm not correct, please let me know). Assuming, this is what you're asking, unfortunately that's not something I can help you with because each keyboard is different and especially on a sophisticated keyboard, there are many potential settings that could cause this difficulty. However, as a starting point, you may find this FAQ on our website helpful: www.musiah.com/faq/technical/keyboard-detection.html. It has various suggestions on things to check regarding keyboard detection issues, e.g. whether Local On / Off is set correctly on your keyboard. Also, if you're using a MIDI-to-USB cable, it may be incompatible with your Yamaha keyboard, so be sure to use a USB 2.0 cable attached to the the USB-to-Host port on your keyboard instead. If the issue remains unresolved, then it is most likely a setting on your keyboard, so the next place to look is your keyboard manual. You may also find Yamaha will be willing / able to assist you further if needed. Hope this helps :) Brendan

Sabine Alexander I couldn’t get the Novation Launchkey Mini to work with the USB 3 Adapter cable - set up, as instructed to use Garage Band. iPad recognized it,right away, but said “not enough power for Launchkey mini”. Go Keys didn’t work either, though powered. So, connected (powered)Go Keys to my laptop for Ableton Live Intro and it does record and plays back through the internal speakers of the laptop. As did my Yamaha keyboard via USB to Host connection. However, would like to use the launchkey mini with Garage Band. Probably, will work connected to Ableton Live Intro like the above two external devices. So, any suggestions on why the Launchkey won’t work on the IPad? Is there, possibly, an app for external device that I need for the midi connection for Garage Band using Launchkey, Go Keys or the Yamaha keyboard? Or should I run them through an audio interface? Any help is appreciated. 🇺🇸☦️
@Musiah
@Musiah 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sabine, you're on the right track in that you basically need an adapter that will provide power to both the Launchkey Mini and the iPad. (This is covered in the video at about 2:32. Alternatively, in this article, under the heading "Scenario 2" there are similar instructions: www.musiah.com/articles/equipment-tips/how-to-connect-midi-keyboard-to-ipad-with-cables.html). You shouldn't need any other apps. It should just work. The first thing is to make sure you have definitely followed the instructions correctly. From what you describe, it sounds like you connected the Launchkey to the USB 3 camera adapter which was plugged into the iPad, but did you also connect your iPad power supply to the USB 3 camera adapter and plug the power supply into an electrical outlet? This is where the required power comes from. If this is not set up correctly, it won't work. If it is set up correctly and is still not working, the most likely cause is a faulty component (e.g. the USB 3 adapter or the iPad power supply). Disclaimer: I'm not an expert on all things iPad. But if I were having this issue, this is how I'd approach it. Hope this helps :)

Hello, I have a midi keyboard connected to a windows 10 computer, how can I connect my ipad to my computer so that the ipad works with a midi keyboard or daw . What program to use for this connection?
@Musiah
@Musiah 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, you wouldn't connect the iPad to your computer. You would connect the iPad to your MIDI keyboard (leave the computer out of the setup). A video on how to connect a MIDI keyboard to your iPad by cable can be viewed here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYicl52ZlpWSaa8. A video on how to connect a MIDI keyboard to your iPad by Bluetooth can be viewed here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqazpoBnj9Rrh5Y. While these videos cater to the needs of Musiah users, the principals they explain are universal. Hope this helps.

Hi! Great video! I have a Novation Ultranova and an Ipad Pro. I have an adapter from USB-A to USB-C so i can connect directly the Ultranova to the ipad but it wont trigger any sounds in Garageband. Is there something I need to do to make it work as a MIDI device or is it just impossible? Thanks!
@Musiah
@Musiah 3 жыл бұрын
This question is tricky to answer as I'd need to spend some time referring to the Ultranova user manual to see what features it has. It could be a setting on the keyboard, without spending time on this, I'd be just guessing. My suggestion is to start with the user manual, and if you're still not having any joy, ask Novation. Hope this helps :)

None of the keys of my midi controller produce any sound anymore, but it does light up
@Musiah
@Musiah 2 жыл бұрын
By definition, a MIDI controller never produces sound itself. It transmits MIDI data to a device (e.g. computer / iPad) which in turn produces sound as you play keys. While I cannot offer detailed support here, and I don't know the exact equipment you are using... a common cause of this is; if you are using a MIDI-to-USB cable, try swapping the two plugs at the back of your keyboard, i.e. move the plug that is in the MIDI Out port on your keyboard to the MIDI In port and vice versa. If you are using a different connection method such as USB 2.0 cable . Bluetooth MIDI adapter, then the issue is something else, in which case, it may be worth asking your keyboard manufacturer / supplier. Hope this helps.

If by "materials" you are referring to equipment such as a MIDI-to-USB cable or a USB 2.0 cable or and adapter for an iPad, it depends on which country you live in. For most stuff, I'd just google "buy MIDI-to-USB cable" (or similar) and check out the results. Alternatively, amazon (depending on your country) often has most of these things including MIDI keyboards. Hope this helps :)
