Hey Pete. I have an iPad Air 3rd gen. (Lightning connector) Scarlet 2i2 3rd gen. Oxygen61 midi keyboard I have the camera connector/adaptor and an insignia usb 3.0 powered hub. I want to record my midi keyboard and then run my vocals through the 2i2 and monitor with headphones plugged into the 2i2 all into garageband. I have followed the steps you have on the video Multiple times. I have plugged and unplugged multiple times and cannot get them all to work together. What am I missing here? Could this just be the insignia 3.0 powered hub I am using possibly? I am running out of hair to pull out!

Hey there. So the UR12 doesn’t have direct MIDI support. If you’re using USB MIDI keyboards you just connect these as separate devices to the powered hub. I already have a usb-c 8 in 1 hub and a normal 7 in 1 powered usb hub and the website says thats all i really need but i was hoping to see a demonstration of this being implemented but since android producers are rare and most smartphone producers use apple, if you could atleast do a test run with a similar setup for me and explain it, itd really help me out alot

Thanks so much Pete. I just started checking out your videos and they all have been immensely helpful. I just purchased the Steinberg UR12; what is your personal preference on the output monitor speakers? Would I need an amp or are the monitors you use already powered? Just getting into the swing of this 😊.

Hey Andrew. Great stuff my friend. I’ve upgraded to the Steinberg UR22C now but still have a big soft spot for the UR12. Such an underrated interface!! I use KRK Rokit monitor speakers which are great. I’m also hearing good things about these Presonus Eris lately - amzn.to/36u85F2

Hello there! Thank you for this video! Just wanted to confirm... then I couldn't use.. for example... my Shure MVi or Shure MV7 in the USB C port of my hub... and a iRig portable guitar interface at the same time to record my guitar and vocals? I would need ie. a Scarlett 2i2, if I wanted to record vocals and guitar at the same time on my ipad?
@PeteJohnsMusic3 жыл бұрын
That’s correct. Only one device can act as the audio in and out at a time, so you’d need a device that accepts guitar and mic input like the iRig Duo, and use an XLR mic, or just swap them when you need each one. studiolivetoday.com/usb
@libre4123 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏🏼. I wanted to confirm my suspensions. I’ll be picking up a Scarlett when I need guitar and vocals. Thank you so much for your response and your videos. They have been helpful as they deal specifically with the type of set I go for - iOS and GarageBand.

Is it possible to have two audio interfaces connected at the same time to an iPad? Thanks
@PeteJohnsMusic5 жыл бұрын
Hey there my friend. Unfortunately not I’m afraid. iOS can only accept one input and output source at a time. You would need to go for an interface which supports the number of interfaces you need like this one - kzbin.info/www/bejne/omTbdaRjl9OqgZo

Depends on the software you’re using. GarageBand for instance doesn’t support a lot of external MIDI controls but other apps do. I would ask over at the GarageBand Users or Create Record Release Facebook groups.

Hi Pete, Love your videos! Thanks for your effort in making them! I am trying to connect 2 Behringer UMC404HD Interfaces with no success. The only thing I can think of is my USB 2.0 powered hub is not enough. I can run 1 interface but not 2… I basically trying to get 8 channels from two identical 4ch interfaces.😢

Hey there. Unfortunately iOS only supports one audio input and output at once, so you’d need an interface with more inputs if you want more than 2/4.

Great info! Just what I was looking for. Thank you so much for posting this. I'm going to buy the USB hub and Apple Lightning to USB 3 adapter through your links. Will the Steinberg UR12 work the same way? Or does it not do MIDI? I'll need to input vocals, would like option to input guitars at some point, and would like to have MIDI option to use external keyboard. I'm on a tight budget and looking for good budget/quality balance for an interface to use with iPad Pro 9.7" (from a few years back). Any tips much welcomed! Thanks again.

Hello there! Thanks for watching and for supporting the channel. Yes, the UR12 is a great interface too and the only drawbacks are no MIDI, no stereo TRS input and no balanced TRS output. You can however use the hub and a USB MIDI keyboard as I show in the video. More details are at studiolivetoday.com/usb

@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks so much for the reply! I've decided to order the UR22C. The drawbacks you mentioned for the UR12 in your reply above convinced me! Do any of your videos address how to hook up an iPad Pro (it's a few years old) to an older model desktop LCD screen? I thought I saw something in one of your videos about this, but could not find the reference again. Or maybe it was just wishful thinking that I saw it?... LOL! Cheers! Hi nice setup but I am confused. Why do I need the USB to Lightning adapter? Wouldn’t it be possible to connect the iPad directly to the hub with the regular Lignhning data cable, which comes with the iPad and which has an USB A plug? Or is the adapter really necessary so that the digital data can come through? What’ am I missing?

Hey there. Yes, the Lightning to USB adapter is required to create the proper host that can transfer data and power.
