Music branding is one element most overlook when it comes to music marketing. Branding your music is important, but making sure you understand how to develop a personal brand as a musician is the difference between part time income and being able to do music full time. In this video I break down the three key components to having a powerful personal brand and what you can do to make sure you won't be left behind.

When it comes to building your brand what is the one thing you find the most difficult to do? Let me know as a reply to this comment.

Honestly, 2 & 3 right now. I've only been doing music production and beat making for about a year, maybe a little less. At this point, I'm still trying to figure out if my "product" is trash or not. I have a great support system at home, but its the strangers I really need input from. Actual critique of my works, not validation or the standard "🔥🔥" or "yo thats lit". Don't get me wrong, still puts a smile on my face to see those types of comments about my music, and i try and make sure to reply to as many if not all as possible. Do you have a strategy to push for something like getting someone to critique, thats not dm'ing a stranger and basically begging for it? Or, is that something that would come with more exposure? Thank you Adam for providing such valuable insights and advice. So much food for thought.

Make great content, be polite and know who and where you are in the business. Don't act like you are some big cannon if your music is recorded with a calculator and your videos are made for like 100 dollars. Although it is completely acceptable to cheat your potential listeners to believe, that you are a much larger name than in reality. When we are playing live shows we always try to be as fast as possible when getting on and off stage and if we only have 5 minutes of soundcheck, because the band before, took all our time, then we will only use 5 minutes. (and that's why you invest in your own soundguy... or girl.) Save all your money and use them right... And make people wear your T-shirt!

For anyone else who was just as confused as I was about what a "brand" is, I realized it's just the perception or 'image' people have of you. What they see you as. Who they see you as. It used to be called 'image' but it's called now 'brand'. Brand in latin means to burn. The idea is that you 'brand' your 'image' into the minds of people. Brand strength is determined by how appealing but different your "brand/image" is. Who you're compared to and how you stand out. Phew I was confused for soooo long. Hopefully this helps someone else out there! good luck on your musical adventures! PS... thanks Adam Ivy for the video! Your triangle concept was great help!

Great observation about not appealing to everyone. I recently realized that social media forums for/about the type of music I make...discussing musicians who _aren't_ me with fellow musicians and fans...is actually a great way to build non-business relationships with like-minded individuals. Then, when the time comes to release my album, they will be more likely to check it out because they've come to know me as a _person._ Personality and familiarity (it turns out) are a huge part of branding...often even more than the product itself. Completely by accident, I realized that Point 2 and Point 3 can be accomplished in social media forums, allowing me to help others get to know _me_ in a comfortable environment _and_ allowing me to get to know _them_ at the same time.

This video really got the wheels turning in my mind. I realized that it doesn’t matter so much what you do as it does that you do it consistently. One of my favorite jazz pianists, Bill Evans, always sounded like Bill Evans. He wasn’t trying to play rock n roll. And The Doors weren’t trying to be The Beatles. They had a razor sharp artistic vision and they always sounded like The Doors. This video made a huge light bulb go off in my head.

I've been making good music for a long time, good content, just no solid brand.
