I would like to thank John Mooney and The Cottage Hotel in Mendon NY for giving me the blues. In the mid 1970's, there was a musical aberration called disco destroying people's leisure time, making them wear polyester and line up behind velvet ropes to experience garbage. John Mooney and Earl Weems were bringing real disruptive music to the outskirts of Rochester NY, and huge crowds of actual non-disco revelers would crowd into the Cottage Hotel and dance barefoot in puddles of beer. I have the blues, and it is the greatest gift that I didn't have to stumble into accidentally.

Question - Who is going to fill the huge gap left when John Mooney days are over ? I see no one coming through the ranks. Let me know please folks. Love this man and his music, a true one off guitarist and vocalist, make the most of him, while he is still going strong.

I remember those days in the 70s in Rochester with John, Brian, Molly and Eddie. I was one of John's women. At that time he was cycling between me, Nancy, & Patty. I sure loved him too much so I had to bow out, it got too hurtful. But we sure had a lot of great times with Freddie & Barbara, Earl Weems, Davey Helander (rip) Roomful of Blues, great great times. Still love you John, lookin great, still sounding awesome.

I used to watch John Mooney play at Madigan's back in the day. Learned to play a lot of blues from John Mooney. One of the best slide players I've ever seen and if you ever get a chance to catch one of his gigs, do so.

this is great. this series of stuff. i am waking up to son house now after many years of interest in the style. somehow, of all the big names, he's the one i've heard the least. the manager at dockery told me that son house and charley patton and some others threw robert johnson off of that place one night. that's when he headed back to hazelhurst. i missed the blues trail marker unveiing on aug. 28 by two days. i passed by on the 26th on my way down to holly springs and grenada/avalon for the john hurt festivities. i'll see the marker on my next mission to the south. i'll have to listen to john mooney a little more. thanks for this.

Pls. More recordings, John Mooney, especially More like "Dealin' with the Devil" ? (Live) BUT, i guess that You, ONE of the most underrated Guitarist/Singers around....Ya just cain't *Get Through* to any 'hard core' T. Swift or copiers *Fans of The Bland.* (also, to the Swifties: 'i' cain't find 1(one) that 'i' can listen to Twice, and *that* is very rare, for a Top Artiste with over 10 yrs practice?)
