Music: Molly, Matilda and Fiachra O’Mahony - Trouble in the Fields

A few weeks ago ICC Digital brought you a song by the fast rising star in Ireland’s music scene, the singer songwriter and musical artist, Molly O’Mahony. Today in our corner, “Out Of The Blue’, (Look What We’ve Found For You..) we bring you another song by Molly and this time she sings with her sister Matilda and her brother Fiachra and together they bring you a beautiful rendition of Nanci Griffith's ‘Trouble in The Fields’.
Molly, Matilda and Fiachra are three exceptionally gifted musicians and singer songwriters from West Cork.
Matilda is a singer/songwriter who graduated from the British and Irish Modern Music Institute, (BIMM) in Dublin in 2018 and has been performing solo and with numerous other bands since. She also wrote and performed the music for the acclaimed animated short film “Her Song”.
Fiachra is also a recent graduate of the British and Irish Modern Music Institute and he is a producer, an instrumentalist and a songwriter. He currently lives in Dublin and plays guitar in the alt-pop band “TOYGIRL."
Molly O’Mahony has spent the past decade writing and performing with art-folk group ‘Mongoose’, who have been a fixture of the Irish music scene since their formation in 2012. The band have released two albums and two EPs in that time and have shared stages with the likes of Glen Hansard, Mary Coughlan and Eddi Reader.
Molly returned to her family home in West Cork in March of last year, along with her four siblings, two of whom are also musicians. Against the backdrop of the unfolding pandemic, she began work on her debut solo album. Alongside her own work, she kept a musical diary throughout the year, covering songs which inspired her process, of which this song by Wallis Bird is one of them.
Watch out for Molly’s debut single which will be released this month.
