Dude...your content's amazing! I love these breakdowns of yours, they really help me appreciate the song so much more! Woodkid's music is used very often in videogames. There were a good 2 or 3 Assassin's Creed trailers that used his songs...you should give them a listen! :D

This song hit so hard with the moment in the show, the flare scene was one of my favorite in the series.
@johnnyAFIRE2 жыл бұрын
The flare scene is such an iconic scene- very symbolic of all of Jinx’s tension being released like the smoke from the flare (probably why it’s blue to symbolize her troubles being let out) and she’s trusting her sister one last time to come and comfort her before she does something she regrets
@justinkirchmayer4682 жыл бұрын

I got goosebumps. And my chest was like I don't know...I was suffocating at the scene. Especially after seeing the "ghosts" of her past friends who she "killed" and her bearing the weights and finally accepting it. Goshh

This song is uncomfortable. You're so right. I get such an uncomfortable feeling. Theres awkward notes and tragic highs and lows. The vocals as well just add to it. Because you wanna be that hopeful person but its also almost panicked? Tragic? But that's why it's SO FREAKING GOOD. This soundtrack is so stupid good.
@TheNecroFisherman2 жыл бұрын
Ive never even thought about it being uncomfortable but its makes lots of sense. The song def added to that unsettling moment when the apparitions of Jinx’s friends appeared.

@@asht7815 I agree, as I was typing it I thought Guns for Hire has a pretty relatable sound no matter if you haven’t seen Arcane, I think I personally was hit too close to home during Ep. 9 when the song sang “whyyy don’t you love who I am” like I was for sure crying my eyes out haha
@Rj_Punio2 жыл бұрын
4:00 "it catches jinx's optimism" I interpretated that more as a lamentation, as it synchronized with the camera movement turning around jinx, revealing mylo and clagor's ghost behind jinx, mylo with his openned mouth, kinda like screaming and the fact that he does that specific broken note at the same time, always gave me goosebumpbs as it always made me feel like it was mylo screaming in pain
@Sinewmire2 жыл бұрын
Hope, mixed with fear. Jinx wants Vi to come, but she's terrified that she won't. Or that she won't like who she is now.
@TheNecroFisherman2 жыл бұрын
Yea and the song also timed the lyrics perfectly when the apparitions appeared.
@lowkeylokii42052 жыл бұрын
I took it as not so much hope or optimism but not lamentation either. It was a desperate plea before giving up. The build up was like the last death throw hail Mary before giving up, which is that down note we hear shortly after, and the flare goes out

My favorite part about this song is how it was used in the scenes that went with it. The "dirty guitar" strings at the end of the song sounded a lot like horns/sirens of some kind that were being used on the bridge when they were setting up the blockade. It really is the little things in Arcane's soundtrack that just rub the right way.

There are not many pairings of cinema and its orchestration that have haunted me like this. The immolation scene in Star Wars, the cockpit breach in United 93, and this. There is so much agony and betrayal in it, dying cinders of naïve hope.

This song totally encapsulates jinx as a character in my opinion. She tries to help and do what she thinks is right but she ends up hurting people in true jinx fashion. The bright hopeful sounding notes bending down into something minor and dark reflects this vicious cycle jinx goes through in her mind and in the story

Well, well, well.. Now you are listening to with your brain actually! Analyzing, sorting, defining and etc! Thank you for some information and main idea "optimism & pessimism" a big part of the condition of Jinx/Powder, and if you can remember before this song Playing while Act 2 episode 6, there "liar", betraying, fault and more and more things mixed but as a result we got Arcane. Thank you Unfortunately, Woodkid couldn't repeat this song as a live performance, look through KZbin then there is a video Woodkid's live performance of 'Guns for hire' then you will understand my words

To go a tiny bit into a music theory, there's a reason that the transition on "not a good night to lose control" is so off-putting (or at least some idiot's guess as to what it could be. The song is in B-flat minor and that note is an E. While the actual chord the E is part of does not involve a tritone, the previous chord does involve a B-flat, and since B-flat and E constitute a tritone, the transition still incorporates a tritone (if you don't know, a tritone is an interval consisting of six half steps, and is generally thought of as the most dissonant interval). Additionally, the chord we hear at this point involves a minor third, which is itself a fairly dissonant interval.
