Why not just record orchestra, band, and vocals at the same time??....More energy that way!!..

For seperate tracks. Multi tracking is now common since the invention of tape/reels. It is much better that way for production purposes and you can easily edit/equalize as every recorded material are equalized to achieve justified mix in the track unlike live recording (although you can live record and separate record it, it is much easier BUT it does not lessend the quality)

Yeah,but when stuff is recorded live in studio it sounds much better..Most Broadway cast albums are done with both cast and orchestra in studio at the same time..

bit of a late reply, but recording all at once would probably get an energy very much like a live concert recording, which might not work best for the movie
