yeah very emotional song , about the death of their mother ,it's basically her that's is represented in the video going in the afterlife.

Greetings from New England...When Gojira pull back just a bit they write some of the most atmospheric metal out there...Magma was Gojira's Black album where the songs were a bit shorter and groovier...Mario Duplantier is an alien on the drums 🤘🧐✌️

First time hearing Gojira. Not sure if this is a typical song/video from them but It reminds me of John Murphy's soundtrack work from 28 Days Later in places. Thanks for the video, Mark.

It’s… there’s usually less singing, more shouting. The drummer is absolutely fantastic, and the guitars usually have some weird shit going on, but they’re very good. Check out the song Stranded, I did a video on it. It’s bloody brilliant.
@Charli3Brav0 Жыл бұрын
It builds really nicely, completely agree on it needing that climax towards the end which is still well balanced, they don't go too hard. The singing reminds me of Loic Rossetti of the Ocean!
@markabusireactions Жыл бұрын
Yeah I feel like if they had hit their normal levels of heavy, it would have been far too much of a shift in tone, but the way they did it was perfect.

Unsure if you know, but the vocalist (Joe) and his brother (Mario- worlds best drummer) lost their mother to terminal illness while creating the Magma album. The house in the video is the house in which their mother lived. They have a truly world shattering interview claiming that they still had to finish the songs after she passed, and often would start crying at the same time as they recorded in separate rooms. Very true hearted musicians and their lyrics are intensely introspective and applicable. Even their most experimental and heavy early albums like Terra Incognita explore a truly very deep theme in an honest way. The Way of All Flesh is the most serious and deeply explored album I've ever come across lyrically, across all genres. Side note, Joe is a very skilled vocalist as far as knowing when and where to change styles, and the dual vocals are his fairly unique 'pitch screaming' over his clean vocals. Not many tricks just 2 layers! A good song to demonstrate his pitch screaming ability would most likely be "The Axe". It is a very heavy song, with tasteful and smooth breaks for chorus. Mario's drumming is on FULL DISPLAY. Lyrics are an absolute must for all Gojira songs.

Apologies for the time of this comment, depending on where we are located,@@markabusireactions , but the song "Born in Winter" would do very well for your channel, and follows almost exactly as this does, with the slow burn intro (viewer friendly) and massive pay off in the end! I have to agree with your analysis that they do many things well. And as you and others have said, they are a damn moody band as well. Which is great listening when the moods they do is what you're looking for. And yeah, dynamics are key to great music (see Day in the Life from the Beatles). Yet another great reaction, rock on Mark!

This video have be film in the house where Mario and Jo have grown, in the south west of France. The girl with the umbrella is theirr cousin, who really look alike their mother who just past away during Magma procduction, and you can see a blurred pictures of her at the beginning of the video. Btw, its the only song in all their dsicography where you can here french word: "Par delà le ciel, par delà le soleil". Thanks to react to this to rare and precious gojira song 🤘👏

Obscure fun fact, theres also a song (a bit interlude-ish one Id say) on the Terra Incognita called On the B.O.T.A. where you can hear Joe saying "Babel d'escaliers et d'arcades. C'etait un palais infini". If Im not mistaken its a verse from french poem, Rêve parisien. Its a really niche song tho, other than this and Low Lands its true that theres no other french phrase in their lyrics if I remember correctly
@romualddupont3951 Жыл бұрын
@MotorhitPL, damn you right!!! Totally forget this one , salute because on thé B.O.T.A is really "particular". And you right , its from Rêve Parisien by Charles Beaudelaire 👏👏

Great stuff, in my opinion. I love how the singing manages to stay tonally grounded despite the instrumentation seemingly tempting the singers to go hardcore. It's a welcoming contrast. =)

I think Born in Winter would be perfect song to follow this one. Or you can go in totally opposite direction and listen to their all time masterpiece (in my opinion, although its a common opinion among Gojira fanbase) which is The Art of Dying. Heavy, stupidly technical yet still incredibly beautiful Edit: Quick disclaimer tho, Id avoid the Veilles Charrus live version of Art of dying. The most popular one and its a really good performance from the band, but the mixing is pretty poor. Drums are too square and too loud, this song in particular actually shines the most in the studio version i think

I love these types of metal songs, but i want more. I've like Born in Winter, Low Lands, Stranded, (intro of) Flying Whales and (intro of) The gift of guilt. I like the ones which aren't too heavy, any recommendations for the ones I've listed? Thanks
@jez_77 Жыл бұрын
@@internetclipsfromworld So when it comes to Gojira generally the more recent stuff you listen to, the more melodic music and clean vocals you get. Their older music is much more extreme and has more death or black metal elements. The closest vibe to the stuff you mentioned Id find in Another World, Amazonia, The Trails, Silvera, Magma (the Magma album's title song), The Shooting Star or The Chant. The second group of songs Id recommend is more like The Gift of Guilt, so it has a lot of melody and less heavy, more emotional parts, but also heavy and more old Gojira style parts, like a heavy bridge or sudden tempo change. Those would be Oroborus, Global Warming, Pray, L'Enfant Sauvage (title song), A sight to behold, New Found, Into the Storm, Our time is now, Born for one thing or The Axe
