Wow, what a wonderful review, I loved how you played along, and explaining the ending accompanied with your beautiful play, made me teary eyed. You have no idea how you were, well, spot on, to what Joost is trying to tell us. I hope Joost gets to see this reaction video. I loved how your students asked you to please watch the music video of Europapa. I'm Dutch and mega proud of Joost. Attending Eurovision was in fact his promise to his parents, when he was a kid he promised them he would, they passed away when he was 12 and 13 years old. This is in fact for him a moving on moment. Yesterday he sang it live in Amsterdam and with the last 2 lines you could hear he got emotional and the tears in his voice. He totally stole my heart. I'm old enough to be his mother, and every time I hear the last few lines I want to give him a hug. ❤🧡💙

As a Dutch guy I can say that the underlaying messages in the lyrics and visuals are very deep. It's dark, it's bright, it's trying to move on from your past. Joost lost both his parents when he was a kid. His father taught him that borders are human made, and can be broken by humans. Also, as a kid, he watched the songfestival with his family a lot, and it was his dream to once perform in them. Though, now that he made it to ESC, his parents are not with him to witness his succes of breaking borders. Nothing offered to him can fill that void of losing your parents at a young age, it shows in the song. He is trying to move on in life. Something like this at least... Maybe I smoked weed and am making this up. Whatever. Have a nice evening!

The song is actually a bit sad. As others already stated, he lost his parents at a very young age. There are a lot of double meanings / connections to his parents and surely i am missing something but ill try to name some: Like the song is called "euro-papa" because papa is dad in dutch. He is singing that he goes to other places but he feels lonely. He lost everything except time. he is struggeling He is giving people money but nobody is helping him. He went to mental healthcare but they could not help him. He is talking about the song Papaoutai from stromae. Papa outai means "dad is here" and the phrase Où t'es? Papa où t'es? means Where are you? Dad where are you? check out the lyrics of that song too :) He is also mentioning "i wont stop until they say, yes he does that very well" because he is seeking pride from his parents. The ending is pretty clear but i think he is talking to his dad and his younger him and he tells his dad that he listend to him. Also the burning picture and burning house stands for him closing that chapter and he wants to move on and dont want to feel the pain anymore. while he was in therapy they used burning stuff to let go the old
@HagedissNanofish8 ай бұрын
Spot on. 1st verse is him running away from the pain - it doesn't help. 2nd verse is him asking for help, 3rd part is dealing with it with anger. Doesn't work. Last part is him standing in a room with his younger and his older self. Burning the past and moving on. It helps.

Perhaps all has been said, but, yes dad I listened to you, indeed means that he fulfilled a promise. The Klein family always watched the ESC together and apparently Joost once promised his father to let his possibilities run free by not feeling any limitations (borders) and take part in the ESC one day. That's why Joost has been lobbying for years to make him a candidate and sing here. And yes, he succeeded
